Would the CP reset if my original clocks would go back in?

On the older clocks there is a code to tell the cluster what engine/car they are installed in.
Is there a code like this for the A8?

The pre 100 mile change it to remove any delivery miles so the car looks newer than it is.
This can be done with VCDS as well.

I have never looked at coding the instrument cluster or taken one out so couldn't say what would happen to cp if you put the original back in.

There is also the possibility of remove EPROMs and reading data and and rewriting to others but again not something I have seen done on an 8. I guess there's just not enough of us that like to mod 8s so its not been done much.

I was looking into AVDI as well Del, but 2.5k Euro is a bit too much

Amazing tool tho if you have use for it on regular basis to get your money back fairly soon, unless you have 2k laying around waiting to be spend on anything

EPROM is another option as well
The Guy and Independent VAG is may call, less hassle and not too expensive.

With dealer, at least most of them, Cp will require some receipt invoice for the part, some don't mind CP and some don't even bother with it, really annoying.

If you put the original cluster back in CP will go- it is the ckuster that goes into CP, not the rest of the car.

The dealer *can* correct milage after 100 miles and dont always want a receipt. My cluster went wrong and I got the dealer to sort the CP and milage and was never asked for a receipt. I had already fitted it, but they wanted to refit the original to get the coding, then replace with the "new" one (second hand from ebay). The cluster I bought had 120k miles on it, and when I got it back from the dealer it was showing the correct 148k

I was charged 1.5hours for the work, and they normally charge half an hour for CP removal alone (£70 ish from memory)

There's always a £70 setup and setdown change (15 minutes setup and setdown). In my experience, it seems to 'save' £70 if you can combine it with something else that is routine such as service, repair, MOT, brake fluid change etc...

Depends on dealer and location. It's half hours labor, but hourly rate can vary widely £70-150 and maybe even more.

I have a clusters if there not wide dis you can have one for 70 pounds. Cp is 30 pounds milage is on 120k but main dealer will correct millage for a further £30 providing you show a valid mot and v5 I've done this 3 times when upgrading to wide dis +++

Cheers everyone. Secondhand and adjust the miles seems the way to go. If I'm replacing I'm tempted to go widescreen.

I don't think I'm going about changing my car in the correct manner. I'm currently doing it bit by bit (radiator today)..... its eye wateringly expensive

Hi Marcin

Is this Guy a notional or actual person? "In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them....maybe you can hire The A-Team."

Is he like the A Team and are you the person who can find him. Can he code the new clusters, remove CP and adjust mileage? (and fit them???) +++
Mine needs doing

OK, to clarify couple of things.

Cluster is a straight swap.

CP:
- this can be removed by the dealer or independent VAG specialist.
Dealer will charge around 30quid
Independent VAG around 60quid

Mileage correction CANNOT be done via VCDS, only Dealer or a ''Guy''

Dealer will perform both only if you have a proper receipt for the cluster to prove its not from a stolen car, otherwise they are not interested.
They will want around 160+Vat if you go there without the trims or 320+vat if you go there and let them to do all of it, that is cluster swap, mileage and CP.

Mileage correction
This can be done outside dealership and it requires serious bit of kit.
The ''Guy'' charges 70quid

So, outside Dealership this will cost you around 130 and no hassle and via dealer 160-320+vat and there is slightly more involved.
