Gday mate. Just a quick reply as I'm sure you want to get stuck into the job. I don't have my car here so can't go and double check but from memory there are 4 covers where the seat joins the car. These slide off and caused me a bit of grief figuring out that they slide off. Beneath these are the bolts you want to remove. The seat frame stays attached to the seat. There is a harness beneath the seat you will want to remove to allow enough cable length for when the seat is tilted back. Good luck. :-)

Great, thanks - I will go and look for these slide-off trims. Last thing I want to do is start undoing random bolts.

Found the bolts - Got 3 off them off and found that the last bolt is already rounded. No matter what I do, my T50 will not work as it rotates on the slightest pressure.

I can only think that I will have to trash the bolt and get a couple of replacements. They do seem very soft though. Looks like it will take somewhat longer to do this little job......

Right, I finally have the new bluetooth unit in place with the seat removed. I will get hold of a couple of replacement bolts for the seat that were damaged.

There is a pink connector that I have disconnected from the old motorola unit, what is the pink connector that I have removed as there is nowhere for it to be plugged in (My guess was the console handset)?

The main connector is not compatible with the new unit. Am I short a conversion cable/block?

You do need to change the connector on the loom, i followed the instructions in the OP

http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthread.php?t=908

Pull the pins out of the old conneCtor block and put into the new one in the relevant posuitions, Followed by an mmi upgrade

^^ What he said.. Unless you didn't get the new connector block :(

The other connectors down there are for the aerial and the console handset which you don't need.. And you can remove the console handset to get some cubby space back.

I did not get the new connector block. :( is there a part number for this?

I have connected the original yellow connector lead into the new module - I was assuming that this is the bluetooth aerial, or is there a different part needed here too?

I must admit, i cant remember the colours of the connectors, but he bluetooth antenna is a small black tab like object about 2 inches long and doesnt connect to anything else.
The connector block i ordered is 4e0 972 144 and it cost 2.34

ooh, I don't have an independant bluetooth antenna - Found one on ebay 8P0-035-503-E

Somerandomguy 20th October 2012 04:56 PM

Yep, thats the right antenna. I have found the original guide with which I also used

Its for a D2, so the pinouts are not correct for a D3 (use those in the OP instead)
