The only downside is car tax which is dearer than the diesels at £165/Yr +++ |
Thanks. Sorry it was a petrol the 1.4 as being in London the friggin ULEZ kicks in soon.

They're both terrible for tax disc cost - but - the 1.6 is allegedly great fun to drive. (I've never has one that worked properly!) The 1.4 Tdi is really the one to have, engine will outlast the body, which being ally, is saying something, and cheap tax disc to boot. The Tdi is 3 cylinder as well, makes a funny little noise, reminds me of an old Subaru Justy. Being turbo, it has a tiny bit of potential for a remap. The later ones came with more bhp from the factory too. |
I reckon a 1.8T swap is the solution for all of those problems :D

That's to say, £10 more than my insurance for the A8, and that includes a 10% for multiple policies! And there was me thinking of picking up a cheap car with cheap tax and cheap running expenses. |

Also found a 1.9 PD swap which must have a few traction issues  |

I imagine you'd need an S1 or A3 with quattro and then transplant the floorpan/make the body fit over the original? It's quite popular with the old school Ford scene if you want to Cosworth your Mk2 Escort etc.....

I'm gradually replacing various bits of trim which get worn on those cars, but again by buying a red leather interior to swap in it came with matching door cards which had better switch gear so that has helped! I will shortly have a full black sports interior to sell on once its all cleaned up properly +++ Next work will engine mounts, FSI engine clean and manifolds sorted, injectors checked for condition and operation (refurbed if needed) and a full service then all should be good mechanically it will get a new MOT during March +++ Then it will be on to improving any bodywork issues and valeting / detailing it :D |
And I thought you were going to say that it will be up for sale!:p
Not jealous  You doing this by yourself or garage? |

but it already has interested parties at first dibs and second dibs - form an orderly queue here! I'm very much reliant on my local mechanic this end and also hopefully a short sharp visit to the A2 Doctor(!) later for one or two jobs (on the basis that it is neither murple or a D2! :tuttut:) but happy to have a tinker with trim and valeting etc when the weather warms up a bit  |
I think I should get first Dibs as I am being effected by ULEZ.:D
|
Quote:
Well maybe I had better organise an arm wrestling contest to see who has first dibs and sell tickets to watch online!! :D (PS I dont fancy your chances much!) |

A2,s we have 6 in total friends/family cars
the Audi A2 is quite a simple car in many ways
but very complicated in others having worked on them for years now i can confirm the following in my opinion the petrol versions are nowt but trouble the best one is the 1.4tdi 90bhp 2 of ours are mapped and are very quick and torquey make no mistake about it , if it goes wrong you need a compitant guy around it as its not for your average mechanic |

- We have taken out the black sports interior and door cards (which I will get around to selling) and installed a set of Red Leather heated sports seats, and door cards, bought the heated seat loom and switches to get them functioning fully - So far mechanically we have replaced the shocks, bump stops and top mounts, taken off the manifold and repaired it properly and cleaned it all off, replaced all four injectors with uprated ones (Original injectors were upgraded with uprated wire mesh filter baskets and graphite seals - O-ring top seal and head seals and tested for leaks and spray pattern), doing the cam belt etc and new plugs and a full service, fixed one door check strap and fuel flap issue and replaced ignition barrel with new and deleted a rather silly start button. We also changed front brake hoses and replaced all brake fluid & MOT'd the car (no advisories!) - Internally changing a lot of the worn switchgear, lights switch, HVAC unit etc and fitting a bluetooth streaming unit. retrofitting the looms and kit for heated seats, cruise control, and front fog lights, replaced storage tray and one front pop out cup holder, installed a quick connect battery charging lead for my CTEK charger, replaced rear number plate light units and bulbs with new ones and LEDs, cleaned all the carpets & fitted mats etc. - still to do are things like swap the drivers door lock, new undertray (none present), external bodywork tidying scuffs & full valet/detail, sort out a couple of the Votex jacking point covers which were loose possibly change the front windscreen as it has a small crack in the passenger corner, custom DRL / fog light installation and I'd also love to find a darker headlining and A/B/C Pillars etc and possibly a red leather steering wheel and handbrake / gearstick gaiters. I also inherited a complete Bose upgrade set of speakers and amp plus CD changer with the car so looking at how easy that is to deal with. +++ |
