Dear All,
I have to inform the railway 14 days before the event if we want the cream tea in a 1950s Pullman. At the moment we have 12, with several people having not said they want the train ride ( cream tea ). I'm not willing to gamble my hard earned that they do so unless I see 20 people for cream tea I won't book and pay the deposit. There is no reduction for kids on cream teas; the eat as much cake as two slim adults like me! If there are not enough for cream tea we will still ride the train, there are no minimum numbers for that. +++ CtL |

Guys, if it helps to get the mininum number requirement, put me down for 2 cream teas (seriously!). I've lost the plot on the costs, but I'm happy to chip in a few quid to let the event go ahead.
In fact, Mike/Neil, PM me and let me know how much you need to 'sponsor' the cream teas (i.e. how much is the shortfall?). I know this event costs you guys a fortune - time I chipped in a few pennies I think. |

I was talking to our office admin lady today about our meet (she used to live near the Forest of Dean) and she asked where we were staying - so I sent her the hotel details.
This is her reply: "OMG! Jim, you’re right in the THICK of the Forest there! Do you realise the “people” of Ruardean, Mitcheldean, Lydbrook, Coleford and Cinderford have not left the forest for generations. The families are all intermarried and interbred, you’ll be lucky if you meet ONE normal person…… And Speech House?!,……well….. that used to be a guest house ran by the crazy, no-teeth, one-eyed, 11-fingered, stumpy-foot head of one of the biggest families in the forest. This family was notoriously insane and HATED outsiders coming into THEIR forest with big cars. Every year, always around June time, there was news reports on the telly and in the local papers about tourists going missing, last seen in the vicinity of Coleford and heading towards Speech House for a night’s rest. THEY…. WERE…. NEVER…. SEEN…. AGAIN!! :eek: Have a good trip!" Anyone want to reconsider the attendance list? :) |
Hmm...I think there may be a few that live there that don't quite fit that profile, including a guy who worked for me as one of my Geneva team, who's English-born, but of Finnish/Italian parentage, grew up in the New Forest, worked all over Europe on projects for me, and now works out of London.
I'm pretty sure he's still there these days, though he does seem to have gone a bit quiet on me recently.;) Anyway, it'll be good to shake them up a bit :D |

After much toing and froing, I'll be driving from Essex and arriving around midday on the Saturday and have booked a room at a nearby hotel for Saturday night so I'll be attending (plus a friend) and taking part in everything from when we arrive midday on Saturday and leaving on Sunday with everybody else.
