How you feeling now, john? Better than average I hope!

47p2 2nd June 2014 10:56 AM

Still have pain David, nothing as severe as it was and can at least move around, but still very aware that I have a fracture. There have been a lot of muscle spasms over the last 4 weeks, sometimes the left side would be painful, other times the right side was painful and at other times no pain anywhere. All very weird and confusing but apparently that's the way a fractured vertebrae goes. I just have to be careful that I don't get too smart and undo the mending process by overdoing things. Last night I managed to lie on my left side in bed for the first time so getting there slowly. Thanks for asking

Lucky lad, I wish it'd have been an option to own a car as great as an A8 at that age, I had to make do with a selection of Capris and Cortinas, along with a Toyota Celica :o

oldnick 2nd June 2014 01:18 PM

Bought my first D2 S8 last year at the ripe old age of 32.

Those under the average are just showing a maturity beyond their years, and those over the average (like me), well, what can I say….

Palmer 2nd June 2014 07:44 PM

Dont get me wrong i started in little hatchbacks. Only they werent brand new and financed like todays culture!!

Never had a hatchback since i was about 18 though. Love my big saloons!

One of many possible replies….though I bet Old Nick's car history/stories are more interesting than a young/slightly above average age kid like me..+++

It was one of only a few "clean" options though tintin, and I could possibly be disrespectful to my elders, it's the generations below me that find that easy ;)

When taking on staff, I always find it a good policy to recruit only those under 30 whilst they still know everything.. :p

Such a suggestion would only be flattering if you'd had "intimate relations" with other forum members.

Is there anything we should know? :p

Got my current and 1st A8 at 37 and will be 41 in 2 weeks....
............Always loved the * since seeing it on Ronin the movie back in 88.++++++

Lee S 12th June 2014 03:54 PM

You mean 1998 ?

run132 12th June 2014 07:57 PM

I always liked the look of the FL S8 D2 when it came out but could not find a good enough reason to get one when they were a few years old. I managed to find reasons for (most!) of my others but I felt that the S8 was very similar to the LS400 I bought when I was 31! No bad thing!

Finally succumbed to the S8 'itch' in my mid forties. Took me a while to find one good enough - and for my wife to say "oh just buy it and stop going on about it"!!

Firepit 16th June 2014 02:28 PM

I'm 47 now and got my first 8 last week. But had a TT since 2001 and three seven series over the same time period. I don't know what I was thinking. Always loved the TT in the wet or the snow and cursed at the beamer.

Finally decided that it was time for a refined quattro drive :)

As above, as a lover of most cars, and car chase films, the Ronin caught my eye the second I saw that full four wheel drift and I was hooked! about five or six years ago I looked at the final edition D2's on 20's but for what ever reason I went 2006 Evo 9 Guy Wilkes rally replica instead and tuned that to 448 bhp... However I've come back to the Audi 8 scene where I was looking at the S8 D3 in black and even test drove three, but those fuel bills forced me into the A8 D3 SWB Quattro Sport that I bought about two months ago. I'm now 37 so below the average and aware of this when meeting up with my mates as their rides are nothing like mine so perhaps I'm ahead of my time, but no bad thing when you have an Audi A8 on the drive. +++

Regards, Mark.

1st 8 .. 52, last year. First BMW 7 was when I was 35. I think the older population of owners is more about being able to afford it. I did get some stick about it being an old mans car.

Its the same for learning to fly. Most private pilots are in our age range.

ulfilias 17th December 2015 01:49 PM

Hi There,

41 here, though I got my first S8 about 6yrs back.

I was origionally looking for a BMW 8 series and missed, getting a D2 FL S8 with LPG. Put about 100K of miles on it in 3.5years in mainly personal miles. Would think nothing of nipping off for a 1.5hrs drive each way for a night out in that beast!

I always wanted an A2 and an A8. At the age of 34 I sold the A2, my first diesel and have had to make do with the A8 ever since. Now 35.

don't agree about being able to afford it .....as you get older it is easier to get in and out with bigger doors !

I'am 46, bought my first A8 approx 14 year ago after my mate bought a 2.8 D2, I drove it to Germany, got back home and had to have one, so bought a 2.8 D2 sport in silver on a T plate
In the last few years I have had a further three, 54 plate D3, 57 plate D3 sport and now just bought a 59 D3 sport again three weeks ago
For some reason, I fancy a change, sell the 8 after a few months realise nothing beats the 8's and end up going back
Cheers Andy

moltuae 18th December 2015 09:25 AM

45

I've always liked larger, 'executive' cars. Had 8's for about 10 years now and had 2 Citroen XMs for about 10 years before that.

Nuisanceneighbour 18th December 2015 08:09 PM

Bought my first A8 at the innocent age of 20 (couldn't get the thing going when I went to pick it up and there was no passenger seat!)

Interrupted by 20 days of driving a smoke-filled XJ6 I'm now into the 6th year of owning a PF S8 and the 29th year of my old age.

My first owned car was an Opel Kapitan in 1958 at the mature age of 18.
Then went through two more Opels, a Rekord and a Caravan(early Astras).
These were all in Germany and the last one I brought back to UK when demobbed.
In civvy street I went through a White Zephyr Six(thought I was a Z car) and a Vauxhaul PBD Cresta.
Then various company cars, Ford Anglia, Opels, Cortina Estate.
Back into ownership with an Astra Estate that I took all over Europe from Denmark down to Italy, in November 1989 I took it through East Germany to the Polish border and back to Potsdammer Platz in Berlin for the breaking open of the Wall. I was on a visit to Berlin when they closed the crossing and split Berlin prior to building the wall.
Then followed a Mitsubishi Gallant, a Ford Granada hatchback and two Nissan Maxima QXs.
Then at 74 SWMBO purchased my dream for me and I became the proud owner of my 2004 Audi A8 3.0TDI.
Yippee!! I have arrived. OK it has taken me 76 years to get there but very interesting years they have been.
The really big thing is that I have now met some like minded folk here in the forum and now consider myself double blessed, a beautiful car and some very good knowledgeable friends.

Was the hatchback Granada the original mk1 coupe Granada Ray? they are quite sought after now. I used to own a stretched Mk1 Granada that I bought off the MOD and loved it. Went to the classic car show in Birmingham a few years ago and there it was on the owners club stand, but white instead of black and fully restored, very strange seeing one of your former cars on display like that lol +++

Palmer 20th December 2015 03:03 PM

23 when i had the D3. 24 when i had the D2 S8. Now 25 with another D3 lol

tc4332 20th December 2015 07:26 PM

Sorry Neil,
Rather a few years younger, it was a MkII about 1994 on a H425 MEV plate.
2.0 DOHC manual 5 speed, limited slip diff, rear wheel drive.
I did forget another Opel that I had for a few years, an Opel GT, 1900 aluminium engine, pop up headlights, sort of a Ferrari Dino look alike.
Sad bit was within two weeks of selling it I saw it near Manchester Uni in a very battered state.

No but I do have the spirit of Luton in my blood! Had a trusty Vauxhall Cavalier which to this day I resent ever letting go.
