Picked up one of these from Ebay a year or two back as I have a Brabus Smart and they have no oil sump plug so you have to do it this way.

A lot of garages have switched to doing it this way as well, particularly if it's a cheap all in service. Advantage is it's quick and painless. It doesn't however remove all the oil as you have some left in the sump, like getting the last bit of a milkshake through a straw. Also you don't get to check things as much as you would normally, so i'd say do a proper one every once in a while!

I was confused too +++ Never seen a top mounted oil filter before. I guess the original thinking was that heavy debris (carbon, metal etc) would settle out in the sump and therefor the filter was placed close to the sump area at the start of the circuit. On older cars, without the the tightly packed engine compartments, the filter could frequently still be accessed from the top.

Those were the days. You could climb in and get both legs in the engine bay on one or two of the old bangers I owned and stand right next to the engine. On my S8 I can barely get an arm in.

Oil pumps still available at our Lidl. I am happy to buy and post if somebody wants one but not available locally but probabaly will not be much cheaper that some online prices considering it's £12.99 for the pump and probably £4-5 for postage.

I'm not entirely convinced it leaves more oil. From changing mine and checking the dipstick a few times over the last few days to make sure the level was bob on, the oil on the dipstick has been cleaner than after traditional changes.

Very kind offer. You also get the long Lidl warranty if that's people's thing.

Thanks - might get that for squirting my ATF in.

Really good of you to offer. I'll get down to my local Lidl to see if they have any left too. I can't imagine why I might use one, but that doesn't stop me wanting one!

No luck finding any at my local Lidl, but it did give me an excuse to play with the background lighting modes. :D
