Oh yea, the other really interesting thing on the back of the rear quarter is the prolific use of expanding foam!? In behind the panel there's plenty of it, found that a bit odd!

Audi use it in quite a few places. The a-pillars on B5 and C5 are full of it, as are the sills on those and the D2. Its useful for stiffening and sound absorption.
Its not fire-retardant either. I found that out when I tested a sample before having the sill welded on Dean's Big Red - it burns quite well. Ended up digging it all out and then re-applying it once the weld was finished. |
S5 Sportback roof rails are also full of it - used a lot now for structural integrity in safety critical areas to help maintain structural stiffness of the panel

Well my darling partner reduced the panel to tin-foil. She has since forefit all rights to complain about my driving, which almost makes it worth it. Almost.
