Would suggest you get the whiplash checked out. It may not feel bad now, but that could still be the adrenalin. Hope you get everything sorted soon.

I went to the doctors today and the neck and shoulders are ok, but i've got a trapped nerve in my lower back which is far from ideal!

So far the insurance company have been good, they had the car collected this afternoon and i've already received my brand new Merc E class courtesy car! It's going to be tough giving that back!

Glad to hear you're ok for the most part and you're able to walk away from it.

In terms of the car - agree with the others that's definitely a write-off.

Hope the nerve gets better soon!

Well the car has now been officially classed as a total loss by my insurance company which in a way is a blessing in disguise as I was trying to sell the car anyway and they have made me a very generous offer with regards to a settlement. I am now just waiting for that to clear so I can go and buy a replacement. Unfortunately I won't be after another A8 as my partner and I have both decided a "sensible" diesel estate is the best thing for us - now it's time to trawl Autotrader for A6 Avants!!!

Did you sort the plate transfer already? If so then nothing to worry about, but if not don't send the paperwork to your insurer until you have otherwise you'll probably lose it!

It's all being sorted now, they told me to put the plate on retention and then send over all the documents for the newly appointed reg as soon as they come in. Hopefully that should be in the next week but you never know with the DVLA, i've had some shocking experiences with them in the past.

I'm more frustrated at the payment system from the insurance company, having to wait 3-5 working days for it all to clear when I could be all sorted by now otherwise.

At least with the delay you get to keep the loan car for longer, or are you able to hang on to it for a while yet while you look for a replacement? I know if it's total loss on your own insurance once they've paid out they're more than happy to leave you without transport pretty much immediately they've sent the money!

The loan car is through Enterprise and they have agreed to let me keep the car for up to 5 days from the money being received, so that's a nice bit extra. I'm going to view a car tonight with the intention of putting a deposit down, so fingers crossed it's a worthwhile journey.
