No. It would have to cost sub £10k for that. :D

…and as a Scotsman, to a Yorkshireman, I'd have to agree..+++

Great choice, Ian. Especially with the engine, get some pics up!

Bad advice, the Audi warranty is the only one worth the paper it is written on. Drop the car off at an Audi dealer, job done. No fuss, no quibble. It just works. Regarding having work done, Audi will price match any independent, too. Anyway, Ian won't keep it long enough for warranty renewal anyway. :D

Amar

It's not bad advice if you read the whole sentence - I said don't buy it UNLESS you are happy to be tied into servicing by Audi for any little thing that you might otherwise use an independant garage for.

They will only price match an independent if you get a specific quote for your vehicle in writing - an advertised price on a web site for example for an air-con re-gas they will refuse to match.

There are other warranty options but on balance for this year with the 2 year service plan we're likely to buy the extra £45 to have the air-con and brake fluid done over an independant pale into insignificance to the quote we had from Warranty Direct which was about double the official extended warranty.

I must say, my experiences of Audi warranty claims are generally comforting and pain free. I've never come across any hint of the dealer pushing back, presumably as its in their interest to land the audi-uk reimbursed warranty work.

It sound like you've got a bit of a bum dealer there. How the heck would they even know if it had / hadn't been regassed somewhere else....

I have however heard horrors of third party companies not wanting to cough up to Audi parts/labour rates....

I think it's more a case of if there isn't a record of it being done at an Audi dealer at the recommended interval (so 3 years for brake fluid and air-con) and you can't provide proof it was, then they'll wiggle out of paying for a claim for say the compressor failing because it has either not been maintained to schedule, or because it's been worked on elsewhere.

The warranty paperwork states very clearly that you must be able to provide invoices for work done at an Audi dealer for servicing, even if you're not asked to because they can see it on the system. I clarified what constituted a 'service' with the warranty company themselves (Mondial on behalf of Audi UK) as the paperwork supplied doesn't give a definition. They informed me it's basically any work on items that would be covered by the warranty. I would have no qualms about having discs and pads done elsewhere as they're not covered in any case.

My local dealer is owned by Inchcape and they've been shocking on many levels. The brake and air-con fluid changes are on a fixed price 'offer' at the moment so it's not worth me driving to the next nearest one as I'll spend an extra tenner on fuel and not save anything. I'm seriously tempted for bigger ticket spend to go elsewhere on principle.

I would hope if I need to make a claim that the experience is pain free as per experience above, but only wanted to warn others in case they choose not to use a main dealer eg the thread recently on a D4 oil change
