Lee S 16th October 2016 08:37 PM

Dunno if it's the light but the rear passenger door and rear quarter of that silver S8 look a different (darker) colour to the rest of the car.

Nice SWB Ur Quattro though !! If that's a real ex-works car that must be worth a small fortune...

oldnick 17th October 2016 08:51 AM

would have loved to have come again but a couple of reasons I couldn't

I would have been ashamed at how battered my D2 is compared to all you lot
I'm in the south of france for the moment !

Why the tow hook on Richard's

HPsauce 17th October 2016 02:06 PM

Required by the circuit. Presumably so they can drag you out of the way quickly if necessary.

My Photos of the day. Thanks to everyone. It was a great day. I hope these photos upload okay. Never done this before

tintin 17th October 2016 02:36 PM

Nice photos...my thoughts as follows:

1. Sad that I missed it, just too far for a short(ish) meeting, with the NEC event coming soon after

2. As pointed out at the summer event, these meets seem to be veering towards almost being S8s only

3. It's a lovely cross section of D2s - lots of colours, lots of variants

4. Is that the rear of a Lesserspotted Reffro I can see on one of the later photos? (16 or 17, or thereabouts)

Thanks for loading - a good first-time effort +++

HPsauce 17th October 2016 02:57 PM

It was, he came by bike! Never heard him referred to as a lesser anything though.

Great day out at ADI

As one who took part in the track day, I would like to say thanks to Neil for organising/publicising this event and to fellow A8 owners who are such a friendly and informed group of people. Made to feel very welcome (even as the only D3) and embarrassed it wasn't as clean as most there, but it did go well on track with 120mph showing in several places.

To misquote david's 8 I think - the wonderful smell of hot brakes when car returned to paddock! Yes they got very hot and took a few laps to settle in after a frightening "will she stop or not" at the chicane, but 8 sessions (nearly 2 hours track time) with my son in law and it kept taking the punishment. Undertray dropped and dragged on ground (removed) and we have a small oil leak to investigate.

For any other track day novices, have a go and get the instructor, David da Costa to go out with you and improve your driving style. For £15 quid, best instruction I ever had and same price as a track session.

Looking forward to next year already! Any one who has photos of my car on track, would love to see them. Fairly sure it was the biggest vehicle on the track actually driving competitively.

Thanks to everyone.

The D3 does look at home on a track +++

I arrived about 3:00pm just as most people were heading off and the weather unfortunately turned but was good to see who was there and drool over everyone's cars as usual

Fair play for taking it out all day on the track looked immense out there and looked like alot of fun, the smoking brakes was a highlight of the day but the car goes really well, hopefully you get the small oil leak sorted and be back next year

I really think we should book the parade lap as a group next time or at least all plan to get out there at the same time with the others roll on the next year +++

Love the colour on the blue German car, and that light green one really stands out too. They all look good but these two are particularly nice. Currently in Portugal in a Clio estate so missing my Audis:(

some of my pics - In order:

Mini Meet at the pub the night before with Vera, David, IT & his Daughter - here's a few pictures I took before darkness descended of my car and Vera's

I also had an interesting bet with a Yorkshireman (namely IT) which concerned me showing him pictures of MikkiJayne's grey S8, whereupon a difference of opinion occurred about the colour - I said that it was Dolphin Grey, and having owned a Dolphin Grey S8 (now owned by topgolfer in Bristol), Ian assured me that it wasnt. What I didnt tell him was that a few weeks before I had actually asked MikkiJayne what colour her S8 was, and she had said Dolphin Grey. . . you can see where this is leading. . . . so anyway a £5 bet was shaken upon and we awaited the arrival of MikkiJayne the next morning so that all could be verified and the wager settled. . . . you're ahead of me again lol . . . . here also is the picture of me collecting said fiver from the Yorkshireman in front of the Car at Castle Combe! :D

I love it when a plan comes together! +++

Yes, not a black car on our stand at all!! :p
Vera's is Pelican Blue apparently. Dont recall ever seeing a blue pelican but there you are.

(I do have to day that the S8 Plus in super gloss black DID look rather tasty tho' +++ )

Of course it was only a "virtual fiver" as far as Yorkshire Man was concerned. He was not out of pocket at all!
He actually acquired said fiver from me in exchange for a spare "Special Visitor" (free entry) pass to ADI that had been passed to him by A8parts.

So I effectively saved £5 on the usual entry price of £10 and gave the other £5 to Neil.

and finally - CtL (Mike) added his name to the draw in the Main Audi Stand for the chance to win a passenger hot laps session in a race prepared R8 driven by e-FPA champion Steve Warburton, he then won the 1/2 hourly draw and suddenly realised that he would probably be killed . . . . . by Angela if he risked going in the car with still damaged/broken ribs from his accident. . . . . . guess who stepped in to help him out? :D

It turned out that Steve owns an original Audi V8 (D1) which he had driven to the track in so we had a great conversation about that. The R8 did 2 hot laps at full chat and it was pretty quick as they let us out onto the track in front of the other cars to get maximum benefit!

I spoke to steve later and he said that a full tank of fuel was doing 3 sets of 2 hot laps before the DIS flagged up 70 miles of range left!!

Had the Yorkshireman not had a backup plan, the bet would never have happened lol +++

.... and you didn't just save a fiver, and considerable seconds on entry to the grounds, you spent the whole day feeling 'special'.... :p

The whole exercise only really went to prove how crap the camera and/or screen is on Neils phone as it really, really didn't look Dolphin Grey in the poor photo that Neil showed me.... :D

HPsauce 18th October 2016 11:43 AM

The fiver I "saved" bought my coffee and lunchtime snacks and the time saved allowed me to queue for an ice cream. But no, I didn't feel special. :tuttut:

No no no! :tuttut:
It was not a virtual fiver, I'm having none of it! money handed from you to Ian is irrelevant, I have photographic proof of IANS fiver being handed from Ian to me! :D
If you play the pictures fast enough one after the other - it becomes a video!!

Just looking back at the pictures it looks like most of them (of our group) were taken while I was away being cleaned! So attached are my picture of the group plus one of my own car. :o

Architex_mA8tey 29th October 2016 11:20 PM

Found a nice 32 minute long video on YouTube that some lads by the entrance took of people leaving ADI - highly addictive watching and listening to all the metal leaving the event!

http://youtu.be/Iu9tApD8vO0

I'm leaving the arena on it at 18:42 and before me I saw Ollie arriving in his S8 (close to beginning) and Vera from Germany leaving in her blue D2 S8 and at least a few others either side of me leaving - can you find your own car?

Some epic sounds of cars as they accelerate away :D

MikkiJayne 30th October 2016 08:05 AM

I'm at 20:30. Far too quiet! :D
