The S8 converter is 01L323571B, a snip at €1400 from Tradition
Or, acquire a used one and send it to JPat in Bristol for reconditioning for £400 or so. Its a day's work to get the converter out, and another day to put it back in, which can obviously be done consecutively if you get a spare converter. |
Many thanks MJ.

OK, so the problem persists but hasn’t got any worse and it only happens when the engine/box is warm.
But the VCDS is now throwing up F125 intermittent faults which, according to some, might give similar issues. But as the F125 is NLA from Audi, which of these should I buy? https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/...SAAEgIpg_D_BwE |
I recently fitted this part to my car. I first ordered this one from Amazon (partially because it was cheap, partially because it would come the next day):
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 but the loom was much shorter than the one I took off the car and it did not look like it would fit. I thought I would try a slightly more expensive one from Autodoc so sent it back and ordered this one: https://www.autodoc.co.uk/nty/171058...Zpcm1hdGlvbiJ9 Annoyingly the cable was still much shorter and returning it was going to be more of a hassle than Amazon so I went ahead and fitted it anyway, but it took a bit of adjusting with the loom position (it sits quite tight, and I think I had to adjust the position of the connector on the car to get it to fit). It has been working perfectly since though. Would the £200+ ones be any better or last longer (or have a longer loom)? Maybe, but I now know I could change it over in an evening, so it’s no big deal if it does start to fail (as long as it gets me home!). The amazon one seemed pretty much identical in quality to the Autodoc one (though I never fitted and tested it), so I could have probably saved myself around £30 if I had just used it… Would be interested to hear other peoples experiences with this part. :) |

I went with an even cheaper option off AliExpress  at the ridiculous price of £23. To be honest, I wasn't overly optimistic, but anything was better than it going into safe mode at some stage during a drive. The first week or so were cautionary gear changes, waiting for the appropriate light on the dash and hoping there was no sudden thumps. Never had an issue then, and after that I never thought about it. It was that cheap I bought two. Just dug out the other one, but there is no brand name on the switch, and just some Chinese letters on the box. For reference, the length of the cable from where it comes out of the switch to the end of the plug is 42cm, although I don't think that is given in the specs on Autodoc. |
