wow serius thought there goran im impressed but... what if its not about the speed what if its about the presence of the car on the road, the looks, the confort inside, the fact that its up to date,
i mean yea ok i spoke to a bloke in the states that will make me a supercharger kit for the a8 40valve 4.2 that will be as effective as 70bhp gain non intercooled and 100 inter cooled and he sed if i go the extra mile and lower comp and have a remap with the inter cooled set up i can easy see around 420bhp from the a8 engine and if i did a transplant he estimates that on the s8 engine with the different cams ect it would be in exess of 460bhp at a cost of about 17k over all not including a manual convertion he thinks the gear box i have is shared with the rs6 and will take the extra power if mapped correctly ??? thoughts on this ? |

thats a very impressive looking kit. you are right there are more things to consider than just speed. The D3 does look nicer inside and has loads more gadgets.
For me personally I like the simplicity of older cars, manual gearbox etc, I dont need many gadgets, just comfy seats, speed and good handling. Essentially I want a German muscle car, basic and fast and reliable. Thats why I want to get rid of rear lambdas, secondary air pump, auto box, anything thats un-necessary and over complicated. The other thing to consider is the handling of a 1624kg car will be quite interesting, should be quite agile. If you can remove 225 kg from a car its more or less equivalent to adding 70hp in terms of acceleration. *I forgot to add, lugging 225kg less is going to improve fuel consumption as well. More importantly for me, together with 0.56 6th gear I hope to squeeze out 600miles from a tank. I love taking this car on holiday to Europe and have found range is really important to me. **after I said all that, a D3 4.2tdi really tickles my fancy, massive torque, no spark plugs, no plastic chain variator. I'd have to get rid of the stupid EGR system. If only it didnt have the air suspension, and if there was a possibility to go manual. Oh well... |
Only D3 I would be looking @ is 4.2 TDI, good remap, get rid of EGR and DPF( do they have it?- i assume they do) and you are set. Only thing is that 4.0 TDI have failing intake manifolds sending bits in engine and killing engine, have not heard of the same problem on 4.2's but maybe they have not been around long enough to develop problem as they were introduced 2-3 years later. New manifolds are 1k each- a bit expensive to change as preventative measure but still cheaper then catalysts on W12 and does not need engine to come out

That happens on BMWs too, the butterfly valve things on fall into the engine destroying it, I've taken mine out and worry no more - no difference in anyway.
|
Oh yes, I read about that on BMWs, the diesel ones, its the plastic swirl thingy that spirals the airflow. I didnt realise the Audi ones are plastic too, thats a shame.

Dont see why cats are a problem on the W12, when something happens to one of mine then they are all coming off and a good remap done +++

It'll also lighten the car by the weight of 4 cats +++

I know RS6s gain around 20 BHP + with cats removed with the right supporting custom remap. You could always gut them too. Take them out and bash the inards (honeycombe type stuff) with a screw driver and put them back, MOT bloke is none the wiser.
