Tony, I think the next discount you could perhaps work on could be these guys? I could ask them depending on the service I get.

Thats feckin cheap, under half what I'd expect for a quality job - Or is that £1495 minus £500 AA warranty... ?

I dont really know how they can do it so cheap, but if it comes out good then they're definitely a supplier to make sticky, whether theres an additional discount or not...

I hope it all goes well and you're back on the road asap...

Thanks Ian, it does seem cheap but the company seems very reputable and like I said earlier they are a ZF agent. They have had good reviews so I'm willing to give them a go. £1400 is without the AA warranty so it should cost me £900 for a full rebuild if the AA cough up, Nigel the auto specialist at VMPT said he has done work under the same warranty on some S8's and an RS 6 and they have paid up their share (£500) no problem so fingers crossed this all goes smoothly. I just need to have a chat with Ben to see when he can pull the box out, I think he said 4/5 hours labours which I think is very reasonable. +++

Was Ben able to tell you what went wrong with your own one? Or was it just a without failure any specific reason?

I'm just wondering as my one is giving me some trouble (still drivable) but not great all the same.

Niall

It could have been the blockage that came up on the pressure test? Tozo the D2 gearbox god over in the States is confident it is clutch A which theoretically I could just change but if the whole gearbox is coming out it makes sense to get everything rebuild including the torque converter as the components aren't that expensive, as apparently the reverse gear packs up soon after. I think Ben will be along on here and can maybe give more details...

Ah, so the £1400 doesnt include remove and refit? That makes more sense, so by the time you're done you're closer to £2K than £1500... Makes more sense now.....

My thoughts exactly Ian.

I should have made myself more clear. The company wants.

£995 for a full rebuild of the gearbox and torque converter.
£400 for removal and refit.

However, to save a bit of money I suppose, I am going to get Ben to remove the gearbox and send it over to them (20 mins away) and then he will also refit it for me when it comes back after its recondition. Ben has said off the top of his head about 4/5 hours labour, although I am yet to talk to him to get a quote that is 'set in stone' yet as he is v. busy at the moment.

None of the above costs include the AA warranty. So yes, £1400 for a full rebuild from a ZF agent with a years warranty and with a little help from Ben and an AA warranty I am hoping to pay less. +++

£400 to remove/refit??? I'm too cheap clearly!!

Damn!

Singh 24th March 2010 08:16 PM

Ben's going to take the box out and refit the rebuilt one for me for £250. Bargain. £995 for a full rebuild of box/tc. So a full box rebuild inc. fitting for £1245 potentially and if the AA warranty coughs up, this will mean a full rebuild on my box could cost me £745. :)

Nice one...you could be pioneering the way forward for the rest of us if/when ours go and we need to get it sorted. +++

Will be interesting to see how this continues and how good the box feels after.

Yes, hats off to Singh on this one - If he pulls this off, it will be right result to get the box rebuilt for sub £1500 notes list....

Cant wait to see the results.. +++
