Thanks for this. Its certainly something I can check
|
I had a run in with a kerb late at night a few months back (waxstock coventry 2023) driving in rain took wrong exit off roundabout n into a service area!
Anyway… although drove fine and nothing wrong, few months down line I started getting jip, tyre is out of shape giving horrid vibration, on top of my ongoing suspension woes. Had 4 new tyres for mot month before I bought it in may23 they’re all like new still so replacement sought looks like they’re around 180 corner |
Hi yes I'm getting a few pointers towards the problem being tyre related. I did have the tyres and wheels checked out but perhaps something was missed. Rear tyres to be replaced not too distant so we'll see if that helps. Thanks.

I might be able to at last draw a line under this issue!
swapping wheels with my mate's A6 by elimination proved the issue to be with one or both of my rear pair. I bought a set of used wheels with (barely) legal tyres and picked the best-looking pair. I swapped one and got some improvement, swapped the other and there appeared to be no vibration. Had my tyres fitted to the 'new'wheels and all seems well. The original wheels have been checked a number of times and no-one has ever found anything wrong yet they caused this vibration. Bizarre! |
It could possibly be something stopping them being mounted straight on your hubs, but that doesn't affect them if fixed to and tested on a balancing machine?
|
Yes it could be something like that. The hub mating face of the wheel could be wonky but might not have an impact on the balancer. This uses a conical sleeve to ensure the wheel is sitting true, I think.
