I'm continuing to check after driving my A8 quite a bit lately and filled up on the way back from Arran yesterday, a tad over 20 mpg while taking very little care to be conservative ;)

Just returned from a 740 mile round trip today and the soot chucker returned 37 mpg at a steady 80 mph most of the way. I'd still rather have done the trip in the A8 but finances dictated otherwise. I've poured over £400 into its tank in the last three weeks, I'm just thankful I don't NEED to use it everyday ;)

2002 S8 FE gives 20.4 MPG long term average. Think its a few MPG conservative to real world.

Is this the final word in fuel economy data? Every single tank full monitored for over 36,000 miles, with type of fuel and a note to explain the driving conditions. Economy measured by the odometer, not the DIS (which has been optimistic on all my '8s).

My current S8 has averaged 21.32, but seems to be doing a little better since I started using Shell V Power on a regular basis.

If you're sad enough to read all this, note how the MPG drops every time I take it to my Audi independent (A4 Audi) - do you think someone takes it out for a bit of a blast?

I know, I need to get out more! :D

The plus is that there is a (very) slight improvement over the plot! Ive worked out if you keep the car for 65 years then youll be on 28mpg plus!!! :D

I'm admiring the dedication Jim, great work!

As for the "test drive", I wouldn't be surprised at all. My mate had his RS4 in for a headlamp washer repair at an Audi main dealer and it had another 50 miles on the clock when he collected it!! He went ballistic but they denied taking it out, despite the evidence?!?

Needless to say, he never went back.

Now, the car might last another 65 years, but I won't be around to enjoy the 28 mpg I'm afraid!

Filthy crooks, you can only hope that someone is ragging the a** off their fine elegant old lady while they leave her in what is supposed to be trustworthy hands. Oh that and have a camera installed

I monitor my car online via the tracker whenever it's in for work, and I warn them that I'll be doing so, so far no incidents.

It's worth mentioning however that our cars often stand still with the engine running while at the garage, and this will of course affect the fuel consumption

If someone at A4 Audi is seriously taking it out for a blast - and also not blessed with many brain cells - then I think you'd be able to tell by the car's behaviour when you pull off when you collect it. Some young kid at ATS did that once with me, and I've not been back to them since - and told them why :tuttut:
