01L919821B is for gearbox codes FUM, FUU, FSG, FBE, FBG (mine is the last of these)

01V919821B is for gearbox codes APR, AQD, AFB, AKN, AQG, AKE, AKC and AMX

I guess the cable length could be the only difference?

They certainly were informed of the correct (01L etc) part number to start with and that it was for FBG box. They had my reg no too to ensure that it was correct. It was actually printed on the box pick list sticker.

FBG here. I'm probably heading to the garage in the morning to get mine booked in; I'll make sure they order the 01L version if available.
Maybe you just got the wrong box...... :tuttut:

Once again, those internal shots are really helpful; I'll do the same in due course. +++

I cannot believe that they are interchangable insofar as one has eight contacts and the other [ with the ovaloid connecter ] has nine

looks to me from your pictures to be repairable david , so thanks for them

for the moment my 8 pin is working perfectly

HPsauce 6th November 2016 06:39 PM

Both those refer to the oval 10-pin version. 8-pin is older, not sure which gearboxes exactly.

It would explain why the cable was so short - I'm happy to e-mail you the different Etka printouts if you want them?

If it's an error by TPS or whoever they sourced the part from they should replace it and cover the labour.

There isnt really anything wrong with it! Its just that the garage remarked that the cable was slightly shorter which meant that original positions of the cable ties couldnt be replicated. I have seen the job and the cable is clear of the exhaust, well secured and so all is good. +++
I suspect that VAG will always now supply the 01V part in lieu of the 01L.

Thanks tho for the offer of the ETKA print outs Adrian but not really needed now. +++

I believe the 01L number is correct. The shorter cable is probably a revision to tidy the wiring up. On mine it hangs down and has to be cable-tied up.

You're right - had another look in Etka and it mentions in 'remark' field 'for engine'

Perhaps Andrew can confirm when he orders his? Both part numbers show as current in Etka, so should be available. My copy of Etka is current.

Will do, I've just booked in for next Friday 18th and gave the correct (01L) part number to the garage manager.
He tried to call his rep at TPS to order it there and then but couldn't get straight through so left a message with all the details including my reg and the gearbox type.
(I did also tell him about the 01V version with the shorter lead as a plausible alternative if 01L was N/A but he didn't pass that on to TPS)

..and if they cant get the right one I have got a "spare" here for you Andrew - perfect working order (with a bit of work/re-assembly)

may I suggest that you reclaim your old part and open it up andrew ? most instructive to see the inside of david's ....pretty clear what went wrong in his case....all adds to the knowledge base
