I was talking to our office admin lady today about our meet (she used to live near the Forest of Dean) and she asked where we were staying - so I sent her the hotel details.
This is her reply: "OMG! Jim, you’re right in the THICK of the Forest there! Do you realise the “people” of Ruardean, Mitcheldean, Lydbrook, Coleford and Cinderford have not left the forest for generations. The families are all intermarried and interbred, you’ll be lucky if you meet ONE normal person…… And Speech House?!,……well….. that used to be a guest house ran by the crazy, no-teeth, one-eyed, 11-fingered, stumpy-foot head of one of the biggest families in the forest. This family was notoriously insane and HATED outsiders coming into THEIR forest with big cars. Every year, always around June time, there was news reports on the telly and in the local papers about tourists going missing, last seen in the vicinity of Coleford and heading towards Speech House for a night’s rest. THEY…. WERE…. NEVER…. SEEN…. AGAIN!! :eek: Have a good trip!" Anyone want to reconsider the attendance list? :) |
Hmm...I think there may be a few that live there that don't quite fit that profile, including a guy who worked for me as one of my Geneva team, who's English-born, but of Finnish/Italian parentage, grew up in the New Forest, worked all over Europe on projects for me, and now works out of London.
I'm pretty sure he's still there these days, though he does seem to have gone a bit quiet on me recently.;) Anyway, it'll be good to shake them up a bit :D |
