That module should work but you would be better off with a newer version.
The early bluetooth modules are flaky/prone to failure. I had to replace one last year on a 2006 Q7.

updates

just wanted to bring this thread back. Now that the old bill is hot on hand held phones, can we get any tips on the best BT unit to get for us who do not have BT as standard? Also I have the fixed handset in my car. Can I just buy a new cradle for my iphone?

cheers

The early fixed handset can only be used with a sim card inserted underneath. If you want OEM bluetooth to connect an iPhone, you need to swap out the old motorola unit under the floor for an MMI 2G Bluetooth Module. Lots of info on fitting and part no.'s throughout this thread. My advice would be to buy as late a version as possible as the units are prone to fail.
It's likely to cost a few hundred quid as the modules make good money even secondhand. Well worth it though if you use your phone in the car quite a bit.

Thanks joe. What's the latest model I could get?
Cheers

I'd suggest 4E0 910 336 M or 4E0 910 336 MX
The MX is the same as M, the X means it was an exchange unit from Audi.
This was the newest version 2 years ago, Might be worth checking with a local dealer if it has been superseded at this stage.
Modules from an A6 starting with 4F or a Q7 4L etc. will also work but I wouldn't be sure what the latest versions of these are.
Obviously a manufacturing date sticker on the module will also help.

'Joe2.0e' - Sorry to correct you, but that number is the part number of the latest firmware and not the part number of the ECU. That number's the firmware level 1130 for the 'Handyvorb2" Bluetooth ECU.

'H-M3' - Have a look at the 'Phone Options' thread started by Scott in 'D3 Electricals' as various parties have explained in detail the options for phone variations. But I would suggest that the 4F1 862 335 ECU is the best as it uses the aerial already fitted in your car. That should be at [or updated to] firmware level 1120 which is 4F1 910 336 D.

Note that none of this stuff changed after September 2008 as that was when Audi terminated availability of MMI 2G ECUs and firmware updates due to introduction of MMI 3G from Week 38 2008.

No problem, that's what a forum is for. A lot of used units for sale on eBay etc. are being listed under firmware numbers, hence the confusion. Apologies.

I have just checked an old invoice from January 2015 when i had a replacement module supplied/fitted by my local dealer.
It was for a 4L Q7 but is listed as 4E0910336MX control unit on the invoice.

The cost for a new one at that time was €416.08, luckily i only had to pay €170 as they got some sort of warranty/goodwill contribution from Audi.
Since fitting, it has been faultless, by comparison the original module often had issues connecting with newer iPhone models.

That's because most sellers don't understand the numbers on the parts they're selling. The xxx 910 xxx numbers on ECUs are the version code for the firmware installed when they were manufactured.

I suspect you got a new ECU with a later version of the firmware. 1130 was the final 'fixing' level of the Handyvorb2 ECU which sorted out some phones that didn't work before it ...
