Well, its never that simple is it... ;)
I did a lot of playing with sports / standard seats in the beginning as I wanted a set of electric lumbar black sports rear seats and was convinced I could make some from a sports seat skin and an electric standard seat. The sports seats have exactly the same foam, chassis etc as the 'standard' seats but have an additional 10mm of foam which I had manufactured cheap enough. The comfort seats in contrast were LWB only in the UK, and in my experience they were designed to have a more reclined angle on them so they dont fit straight into a SWB car without drilling some new holes to screw them into the car. I've only got first hand experience of sports fully electric seats and never dismantled the frame so cant comment on how that would work out for you... |
I may give it a go. The harness I can build and the rear shelf is no issue either. I'd say the carpet is a bit more of a problem though since LWB will be most common with this, but given where in the car this is and what-not I may be ok in this regard. Is the additional carpet very visible?
The C-pillar trim looks identical to stock, no? I see all the wiring and relays in the center box, is there any special control module as well? The switches and trim that are added to the rear doors, are they still available from Audi in Europe? Can they be sourced used? Anything like that cannot be gotten here in the US. Do you still have wiring diagrams for this? I'm afraid the diagrams I normally use for US spec cars doesn't have this info in it. I'm in early stages here, so please bear with me. |
Carpet you'd probably get away with. Worst case, get a cut off of carpet your colour and tag it on.
The lower C pillar trim has a bit of fabric attached to it, presumably to let the leather seats slide past it easier or something.... I'm not convinced it'd be the end of the world if you just did it with all the stock trims. There are no control modules. Its all good ol fashioned wires n relays n switches. A8Parts would be in a better position to advise if they can get the parts. They might even have some individual rear seat kit in. The wiring diagrams are all on Elsawin so should be on the Bentley discs as well I would imagine. I was sort of fortunate to have the whole wiring loom from the donor car, but it took a long long time to seperate out all the wires I needed from the ones I didnt, and to snip at the best possible places for re-joiing etc. I look back now and wonder what on earth I was thinking starting this project !!! |
That was my thinking with the carpet as well, but we'll see when the time comes on that.
I had planned on having that and the other lower pillars wrapped anyway so may be ok there. If you could email me the wiring diagram I'd be forever grateful. I had a Bentley disc but it wasn't compatible with either of my machines... I so wish they'd stick to hard-copy. |
Well, a followup, the seats I found are from a standard A8 rather than an A8L. That means they should fit properly. Now I just need them recovered to match my interior and to figure out wiring. Neither of which will be pleasant...

Update for my endeavor into this... I have found electric comfort seats from a SWB in Germany. and I believe I've found the shelf and carpet as well. That would leave only the switches and wiring. I'm working on that now.

Pulled the trigger on seats...
