I'm back!
Last night, straight after work, and pretty much unplanned, I got in the D4 and headed to London to pick up what would become my new A8, it was a non-starter, and after throwing around £1,800 at it, the current owner had decided enough was enough, so here begins operation ‘save a D2 from the scrappy’.
Although it isn’t starting, here are the plus points. - High spec for a PF, Bose, Solar, Front and rear heated and electric seats, blinds, there might be more, like Servo (if it were around then), but I’ve not had a chance to drive it or a proper look. - Audi history up to 185k miles, the cambelt was also done then at Docklands Audi (now on 191k). - 60 Miles since last MOT, which cost the owner £800 to make her pass, new suspension arms etc… - New gearbox - New Bosch battery Having to leave the key in what looked like one of the dodgier parts of London, in the middle of the night with the key on top of the wheel was a little unsettling but thankfully, when I woke up this morning I was pleasantly surprised. The AA had parked it outside and put the keys through the letterbox. Perfect. They knew I had work (hence not staying with the car, and didn’t want to wake me). I’ll start a separate thread with regards to the starting issue, but for now, I just wanted to introduce her to you guys, and share the joy! Only photo I have as I pulled up to see it yesterday… http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/v...psa3d26afc.jpg :D |
But isnt that like almost exactly the same as the PF D2 the family already has, but broken.......
|
Yes, but this is my personal one that I can do whatever I want with, and I paid a fair enough price that worst case scenario, it'll just sit and be a donor for the other one if and when it needs bits. There is sentimental value with that one too, and has been sorned for some time. In truth, it's not up to me what happens with that car, here I can do what I want with it, and not have to worry.

That numberplate also looks quite familiar.....
(and yes, servotronic was around PF as my old S8 had it) |
Could be a forum member, I forgot to ask if the owner was on here.
Intresting fact, the old owner bought it from a production company, the car was used in a filming of Silent Witness, anyone spot it? |
Sweet - presume a non-starting issue is likely to be nothing major and just a case of fault finding from a sensible first base?

Welcome back!!!
Looking forward to seeing it at the next meet. Saving another D2 thats a noble cause. |
Thanks, Goran. I'm quite happy with it, not only has it had the belts done, and a new gearbox fitted but all the toys work too, it has been really well looked after all it's life, featured on TV and also it was an Audi UK car, so potentially a press/management car.
Adrian, the owner has changed the following. - New crank sensor - New cam sensor ^^ £800 in parts alone from Audi, apparently, and that didn't solve it! Also, a new fuel pump and assembly. I believe it is wiring to or the ignition switch itself. We did get it to turn over and run for about 5 minutes, and then it started chocking as if it were being starved of fuel (half a tank in there). My theory is the fuel pump hasn't been fitted right and it isn't picking up the fuel from the tank, I've noticed the fuel pump fuse has blown, would a faulty relay do this, or is it more likely to be wiring/badly fitted pump? I'll replace the ignition switch, fill the tank, and go from there... It'll be fun anyway, it's only a nightmare when you rely on the car, and of course, I have my DS and RS, plus use of the D4 if I really need an '8 fix, it ain't no D2 though... :rockin: |
After i had my fuel pump done by the garage it would cough and splutter at around half a tank and the cut out, and it was the assembly not fitted properly, still scared to run her too low but i haven’t had it die on me since i spent a day in the boot swearing at how rubbish a design it is. So could well be the pump.
Empty a 20L jerry can in it and see if it runs. |
Will give that a go, Dezzy. That wouldn't cause the fuel pump fuse to blow though, would it?
