I have given changing the colour of my S8 some serious thought now, I have decided to go for a full respray unless I get a good discount on a wrap, but then no detailing :( Anyhow it wont be happening for a good few months yet, partly because I need to save up some more money and partly because I want to see all the different colours at the meet to help me before I make a firm decision. I have had a quote of £1200 from someone, I had a look at an A Class the guy had done and it was a very good job however i'm not sure I would trust him with my S8. I took it to another bodyshop thats local to me ( a very good one) and they want £2.5k. They say they will remove the windscreen, bonnet, bumpers, doors, lights and so will take two weeks, does this sound about right? My cousin who works at a main BMW dealership is also going to find out what he can get it done using his staff discount. I don't mind spending money upto about 2.5k as long as the jobs a good un. I don't think I'll sell this car if I respray it so longevity's a must. If anyone has any recommendations on bodyshop, please let me know.

Now, the fun part. What colour? I have narrowed it down to the following:

Arden Blue (Vauxhall)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Estroil Blue (BMW)

http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1240354228

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Le Mans Blue (BMW)

http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1240354271

I'm also going to get some final edition alloys and a quads with X pipe, so bare this in mind when trying to picture it! :D I rekon the Le Mans blue will keep it looking classy, then again the others would make it stand out a lot and I rekon they would also suit the mirrors, wheels in gunmetal grey?

Please vote for your favourite colour as I like all three and it will ultimatley be what you guys decide. +++

Estroil Blue for me, lovely colour +++

you want to spend 2k plus changing the colour.. !!
will you ever get that back, or do you have money to burn :-)

Singh 22nd April 2009 11:27 AM

I don't think I will get it back, in fact, I think buyers would be put off in buying a resprayed car? The job will be a good one though, it will be a complete colour change, so under the bonnet all the shuts, and the bodyshop also give IIRC a five year warranty on the work. Im justifying it on the basis:

1. I got the car cheap
2. I will have something unique
3. Blue will set off some Quads nicely

oh I see, spending 2-3k so it makes the exhaust look good. That makes better sense :-)
Like to see the results but one of those things I would never be able to justify personally mate!

Singh 22nd April 2009 01:12 PM

Yeah, it all comes down to personal choice. At the moment I have no other commitments, I can think of and no better way to spend the money, I have no Mortgage, loans to pay etc, and will have all the money by the start of Sept I may not have the chance to be this bonkers ever again! Some people buy cars and loose a hell of a lot more than 2-3k in depreciation so why not spend that much on making something unique that will make me love my car :D

harpersimon 22nd April 2009 04:03 PM

absolutely no reason. love to see the end result and essentially am jealous of not having a mortgage and loan and commitements!!!
oh if these were available when I was buying cars first time around..

Arden Blue for me - problem with car colours on PC's is you don't see them as you would in the flesh (know what I mean!!!).

Also, seen the wrap idea and looked quite neat (apart from needing redoing after 24 to 36 months:mad:). What price were you given for that?

Conan_the_Librarian 23rd April 2009 05:56 AM

have to admit although I voted for the estoril blue, the wrap idea is far more appealing as you can change colour 3 times for what you are being quoted. Each wrap lasts 24/36 months? Thats 6 to 9 years worth........... Just a thought.

Good point Mike, one that I considered myself last night and am now considering it. I was just abit worried it wouldn't have that reflection and shine that a good detail usually gives to a cars paintwork, I also read it damaged someones paintwork. I am going to book an appoitment with a wrap company to get a sample of both paint colours, I will hopefully go down this weekend and bring the samples to the meet? Just waiting for Tony to get hold of some prices +++
