4.2TDi tuning

Anybody had theirs chipped?

:)

PsYcHe 16th August 2014 05:03 PM

Yup :)

Brotek down Peebles way is a Shark Reseller and would let you know how do-able it is.. Not sure on the D4 engine if the ECUs have changed.

Duffy 16th August 2014 08:57 PM

Worthwhile difference?

:)

Mine was done as the DPF had failed and was being removed, so not much extra to pay for the performance map as opposed to DPF-free map. It's certainly faster, though a couple of MPG down on longer runs.

Had my D3 done with the dpf also, map was done on a rolling road and its now running with 390bhp and 800nm. Best I've seen on a run is 39 mpg at a steady 70 from London to Durham. Very fast+++

Where did you get yours done, local?

PsYcHe 17th August 2014 10:36 AM

From Durham, I'd give Mark @ BroTek a shout, he's just over the border and also does visits . Or pop over to Shark, but that's a bit more of a journey.

That doesn't seem right, that's over 20% increase from a remap.

Where was this from, price, photos/graphs?

Cheers PsYcHe, I'll look into it. I fancy a remap on the A4 to smooth out the delivery, not really bothered about performance, maybe improve the MPG a bit if possible?

PsYcHe 17th August 2014 03:58 PM

Shark do a variable tune thingummabob for a little bit more, has a performance tune, economy tune, normal tune, and immobiliser mode.

I was told I should have similar figures on mine, the standard should be 380-ish up from 326, but the DPF removal gives is some more (or so they said).

Norretal 17th August 2014 04:29 PM

Is DPF removal a no go now?

Why is 20% the limit on a remap on a turbo diesel or petrol for that matter? Take a look on you tube these engines have been taken up to 420 bhp and 1000 nm and still reliable.
As for price it cost nothing because I did the work, including the dpf removal and a friend of mine dino checked it and trimmed the fueling to suit the engine. I own a modest workshop in Newcastle where we specialise in German cars. We use TD tuning maps for our customers vehicles which aren't generic but built per car and can be adjusted to suit customer needs if required.

DPF is a visual inspection only at the moment on an MOT test, so as long as the DPF canister is still part of the exhaust system and the car passes the emission test the car will pass the test. I have a large number of customers who've had them removed and they pass an Mot every time.

Interesting .. and the semi auto box? just a box of scrap after doubling the torque?

Doubling the torque would result in 1300 nm????? It's not a semi auto its a fully automatic gearbox with a switchable valve body and it is rated to 1200 nm as standard.

PsYcHe 17th August 2014 09:24 PM

If a proper DPF check comes in, it'll scrap a lot of cars in a couple of years where the DPF costs more than the car is worth.. it's £2500 from Audi for a pair apparently! (fitted) for mine.

I've done about 6k since I had mine done, and a gearbox service in the middle and it's quite happy, no gearbox niggles to report.

Duffy 18th August 2014 08:07 PM

I've sent an enquiry e-mail to Shark re the D4, we'll see what they say.

:)
