Not having any luck with this car...

Came back from Stansted airport to find someone had driven into my car at the Short Term Green Car Park - no note, nothing, filled the Police form out as any CCTV has to be requested by them, if there is any at all - so until that comes to light I have to claim off my own insurance for the repair.

So, less than 12 months in, I have had two people drive into the car, a dithering old fool reversed into me while I was waiting at the lights, and now this...

Sorry to see this. Hope it'll be fixed soon.

Hate small parking lots in this country.

moltuae 13th October 2016 04:30 PM

Really feel for you. I'd have been absolutely gutted and livid! :(

I've had similar anonymous car park scrapes in the past. These days I park in the emptiest, furthest away spaces and reverse in (so that my dashcam captures any frontal movement).

Turbo Tony 13th October 2016 04:31 PM

Oh dear. I'm really sorry to hear (and see) the damage. Hopefully, the CCTV will be able to identify the culprit so the insurance won't class it as a fault claim.

On the upside, you'll soon have some shiny new panels on the already beautiful car.

1781cc 13th October 2016 04:43 PM

I think the case has been made for a dashcam purchase! This wouldn't have been an issue if I had one, so good point well made.

I don't hold much hope of someone anonymous getting found for this, two dings in less than a year has got me wondering if I should consider something I care much less about :-(

homer simpson 13th October 2016 05:02 PM

Probably the staff!

Ameiseuk 13th October 2016 05:17 PM

Camera

I have the Aguri DX10 for exactly that purpose. After getting hit in a shopping centre car park. Same issue, no note, no help from car park staff and 'broken cctv' I invested in one of these - have it on the Infiniti. Thankfully so far have had no need to interrogate it.
....but there is a new one sitting in a box in the garage for the S8 when it's back from the painters.

Audidothat 13th October 2016 07:53 PM

Sorry to see that, bloody irritating to say the least, hope it all gets sorted easily for you.

Conquistador 13th October 2016 08:04 PM

Ahh bloody hell  It happened to me shortly after I got mine too - an anonymous unidentified car in Tesco scraped right along the n/s/r (http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthread.php?t=10998). It makes me so mad that we work hard to have nice things and then have to pay for the carelessness and complete disregard that some other people have.

I hope it gets sorted smoothly and quickly for you :-(

Brilliant idea re dash cam... Have we any threads on recommendations for models to buy, fitting / wiring in?

There have been a few discussions I think. A dashcam with 'parking mode' (preferably with an internal battery) is what you would need. Parking mode was discussed briefly in this thread (page 2), in which I mentioned the dashcam I use.

Just ordered one of those - spec looks good, I like the parking mode option.

Insurance claim in motion, lets hope its a swift resolve. I think I am going to have to start parking like an idiot across two bays in order to avoid damage in future

Professor Peach 14th October 2016 12:05 PM

That's crap Lee. Sorry to hear this.

I think I'll also order one having done some reading. The DX20 looks good at £120 from Amazon.

Delboy 14th October 2016 12:09 PM

Oh Man, I feel for you. I'd beat the **** within an inch of his life for doing that and leaving if i'd caught him.

Hope the CCTV turns up something.

pete-p 14th October 2016 12:15 PM

I'm sorry to see this, it's bad enough when you can easily find the person responsible. I bet whoever did it was so oblivious to everything around them that they didn't even realise they had hit your car.

£106 from Halfords: http://www.halfords.com/technology/d...o-220-dash-cam

Judging by the impact, I am certain they knew they did it, but its the usual case of people just not respecting other people's property, I really hope that there is CCTV footage so that I am not left footing the bill

I'd recommend getting one or two 64GB microSD cards to go with it. In HD mode, the supplied card (16GB I think) soon gets full. A 64GB card will hold a good few hours of recordings. I bought these:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00MWXUKEY/

Recording quality is certainly very good though. As an example, here's me leaving Mackie in Glasgow last week:

tc4332 15th October 2016 02:59 PM

I have also suffered damage done by invisible individuals, we both really feel for you.

Nice clear recording, and I also use 64GB SD cards in my Roadhawk Dashcam.
Mine does not have the enclosed battery so cannot do the "parked" monitoring. Looks like I'll have to save some more pennies for an upgrade.

As an aside I notice rainspots on your bonnet Mark. Naughty boy, letting the OCD lads down. :tuttut:

haha. Can't blame me for that one. :) That was leaving Mackies. It was spotless when I dropped it off. Actually they did give it a quick wash though and I think the 'rainspots' were in fact over-spray from the other customers cars they were washing in the compound.

tintin 15th October 2016 04:11 PM

Sorry to hear about your damage: it's borderline immoral not 'fessing when you've done something like this - and doesn't that count as "leaving the scene of an accident" and therefore actionable on that basis?

I know how you feel though - I've had my car (the Tesla, not the S8, thank God...) driven into three times in the year I've had it :(. In each case I was parked up and either in or next to the car, and with witnesses, so luckily no question of who's fault it was, but it's still traumatic and a ball ache to rectify.

Hopefully you'll get a result soon...

1781cc 19th October 2016 03:04 PM

So Markerstudy wanted me to give it to the cowboys at Prestige in Northampton (who aren't Audi approved) or bundle it up to Leicester - neither work for me, so I insisted on Castle Coachworks who are Audi approved but up until recently were on the Vision network and on the approved supplier list for Markerstudy. Being as they aren't on the Markerstudy list and my insistence, I may be liable for any difference in repair costs between their suppliers and my chosen supplier.

I tried arguing the toss but they pointed me to a line in the terms of business when I took the policy out - gits.

Moral of the story, read the small print and be careful who you chose, make sure you switch if you aren't happy when it comes to renewal time

tersono 19th October 2016 04:09 PM

My sympathies. My '8 got trollied earlier in the year - I'm fairly sure that it was actually the supermarket's trolley boy that did it, but never did manage to prove it. Scratch all down one side of the car. Seriously considering a dashcam myself - although not sure it would have helped in my case...

oh wow, I would have been hitting the roof on that one, its just so careless - I know parking spaces are smaller and cars are bigger, but irrespective of that, why do people not respect other people's property?

And she's back looking as good as new! Insurance repair came to £4400!!! Or in my case, just my excess, but I know it was done right!

That's looking good. +++ Did you have any luck finding the culprit with CCTV?

Norretal 2nd December 2016 03:12 PM

Looking very nice indeed, as it previously was.

Glad you got it all sorted to your satisfaction in the end, great result +++

Turbo Tony 2nd December 2016 04:02 PM

Gorgeous :)

Really pleased to hear she's back and looking good.

Thanks peeps, nothing from the CCTV at Stansted or the Police, guess they are too busy fining the motorist and processing gatso pics... in any case, its been a pain, I've been down about it as well, thinking maybe I should sell her when I got her back as maybe we aren't meant to be together, or maybe its a magnet for idiots... but thankfully that feeling has passed! +++
