MMI goosed by ME
Hi, I noticed my MMI was in need of an update....
I thought I'd be clever and update the MMI. Inserted disc one and all went well, then it said it had timed out. I tried again to no avail and then it asked for boot loader 2.40.... HELP:Confused::Confused::Confused::Confused: Anyone know what I have done wrong, and if I can fix the bleeding thing? TIA John |
D'oh! Have you tried the other update CD's?
I wouldn't connect with VCDS until you've tried the other CD's firstly. Are there any faults logged in any MMI modules? When a failed update happens a MOST component could have gone off line and broken the optical loop. |

I've read all the horror stories about updating MMI and steering clear of boot loader, which I did. Yet, it's gone a bit wrong:mad: |

Ran disc 1 again. Burned to new disc, and ALL OK AGAIN!
Phew. Going to be brave now and try and update from 5150.... What's the worst that could happen?!?!?! Edit: Ran disc 2, all the options seems to be N/A, so I've gone and tried disc 3. Which seems to be going ok. Think I'm either brave or stupid. Or possibly both. If this goes wrong again, please, someone shoot me! |

Done. Time for (another) beer.

Well done John.
When I did mine I had bought the discs from the stealers and it went smoothly. I then gave the discs away. Since then I have fitted DAB radio and changed TV to hybrid, so I think that I might need to run the discs again. I'll have to obtain the discs again. |
Thanks mate.
You're welcome to my discs Ray. Bought and burned today. How is your satnav treating you? |
Thanks John, sounds like a god reason to organise a mini meet :D
I've not had chance to use the car. Will try it tomorrow or Sunday. I have an 03:00 tomorrow Preston and in the evening a Bell Vue Dogs return. Sunday up to now I'm free. |

DAB was last updated on MMI 3460 - Latest level is 0830 HybridTV was updated to 0440 on 5150 and the latest level of 0470 on MMI 5570. Julian |
Hi Julian,
I would be happy for any of your knowledgeable comments. Scan removed due to taking the thread on a tangent. My apologies to everyone. |
Hi Ray; it's not April Fool's day until later this year :)
This is obviously a different car than you've mentioned earlier! No DAB Tuner, No TV and different [more recent] Battery Manager than the one you put in my BM thread. Strange setup too ... The Car has a very old MMI of 2120 and the CD Changer is at MMI 0890! 2120 put the CD player firmware up to 0470 and this one is running 0340! Not sure about the Amp; strangely this is the second non Bose, non B&O amp I've seen a log for this week, having never seen one in the UK before! Julian |
Julian,
My apologies. I had a 03:00 start and am rather tired. Tried to be clever and used an old scan from my logs. You are correct, another vehicle that was having silly probs that came knocking for a VCDS scan. I sorted his silly errors for him and that was what he went away with to sort out. I'll brave the wet weather and do another scan of mine and let you have ASAP. |

My apologies to everyone for stealing the thread.
I should have thought of that myself, I plead old age. I have PM'd Julian. Looks like I have the latest updates on both DAB Radio and Hybrid TV Tuner. |
Forgive the naivety chaps but what does upgrading the MMI get you?
I have a feeling mine will be on the same versions as when it left the factory in late 2006 (dec 2006 registered) If it is worth doing then I'm up for it. (it's a 2G system) |
The perceived wisdom tends to be, if you don't need extra functionality or to rectify a problem, leave well alone.
