If I remove the rear boxes, will it????
Cause issues?????
If I remove the rear boxes on my a8 3.0tdi Quattro will it ruin it? Will it throw up codes and back pressure issues etc???? Just strait piping it was my idea? What we thinking? |
Sound won't improve, it will sound awful -ish and no errors from my experience when removing two small (past cats) and middle boxes and changing rear ones as well and from experience on my mate's 4.2TDi which had back boxes removed and and straight pipes through. No errors on his either
I was surprising how much louder car was after removing middle silencer and two small ones. New rear boxes thats a different story :D ....it's like a having a Mozart enclosed in a metal box playing amazing tunes all the way each journey  |
So you think removing the middle one aswell whilst I'm at it? I'd like to remove the dog but it's asking for trouble I imagine. Just after a clean rear end (no jokes please lol)
Wouldn't mind it being a tad louder now it looks mean I want it sounding meaner. Would removal of the cats as well be throwing codes? |

The 6 cylinder diesel is about as agricultural sounding as an 8 ever gets, and the only time I had one, it was the primary reason I got rid of it. So, please crack on, we love project cars - but just be aware you have a very tough audience when it comes to zorst notes.... +++ |
you could fit a "retard valve" (i love that name) and have the best of both worlds
http://www.driftworks.com/blog/2012/...-now-in-stock/ something like this, there are lots for sale on ebay etc etc etc... |
Thanks God IT put that on the table fairly quickly
I'm not meaning to offend neither, but it is not the best engine where nice exhaust tone can be achieved. If you still want to go ahead, and you may like it as we all are different and all you may need is just something slightly different, I would recommend you to do similar thing to what I did. I've done some little research and as far as I'm aware you dont even have a middle silencer. Cat and then back boxes next So cut the back boxes in a smart place in case you want to weld them or clamp them back on and then just do a nice straight run from the slitter near the rear axle with some nice tail pipes. |
Yeah I'm no stranger to nice exhaust systems, I had an akraprovic titanium race exhaust on my clio 200 cup car, paid £1650 for it and it was hands down the best sound ever.
But this is purely for visual and some noise. The noise the engine makes is fine as its my first diesel and all diesels sound like this really. There are loads of videos on YouTube of the 3.0tdi engine with exhaust and id have them over a v8 noise il try and find them, there's a red a5 and that sounds perfect but is a full system. Most have dpf deletes and they sound fantastic. Almost r32 like. But yeah just after a different tailpipe design, so il lob of the system and have a larger bore made from the furthest part forward. I won't be putting the system back on. Super sprint do a system for it but it's just too much as I'm saving money atm or trying to lol. |

I´d any day take the 3.0 tdi exhaust note before both V8:s +++

You can't beat a V8, I tried one of these at the weekend.
Addictive Epic http://youtu.be/AIQqhUvqd4A |
Digging up an old thread here but has anyone gone through with backbox removal on the 3.0tdi? I've got mine booked in next month for either tips change or tips an back box removal (straight through in place) have heard some 3.0tdis on youtube with backboxes removed and liking the sound, just want to see if anyone has done this and what there experience was?
Cheers, Jonny |
i have no rear silencers sounds nice
powerflow made my system when it was 6 months old always been happy with it sounds like a quiet RS4 |
cheers for getting back to me matey, I had a quote for 140 just for fitting the tips and 280 for stainless steel pipes and tips, think I will be getting the boxes off, had you got a sound clip Roberto?

many on here have heard it though i think my pipes are 3" straight through cat back twin ofcource with RS6 tips on now http://i64.tinypic.com/dovza1.jpg |
I've heard roberto's car close up, the wife's A4 has the same engine...they sound nothing alike +++
|
If its anything like a lot of 3.0tdi vids on youtube I'm sold on the sound, i thought £280 was reasonablish, did you notice a reduction in lag when you put your foot down due to reduced backpressure? The money would just go to the wife so may as well spend when I can :D
|
hi
all i noticed was the lovely sound
it was done at 6 months old ive still got the original exhaust which is as new but no one has ever wanted it i dont know why im keeping it to be honest |
haha I think Audi made an exhaust refined for luxury and some of us just crave a bit more engine noise and power, I'm going to wrap up the boxes and put them in my loft for hoarding purposes lol your spare exhaust might come in handy one day, can't wait to get a bit more performance/less acceleration lag

Had them removed on Thursday all good its only a slight but louder with a lower tone when driving normally and a bit moregrowl when you put the happy pedal down, I was expecting slightly better ecomomy daily drive is 26 miles each way was though some traffic usually get 36/37mpg got over 40 on Friday very suprised at the results all good:D
|
I wonder if there are any implications to doing this with the new MOT test that came in a couple of weeks ago and the major changes to exhaust checks and diesel emissions.
|
Morning Mannyo, I checked with the fitter before hand and had a good look over the new changes as long as the CATs in place i's all good, very thankful its pre dpf as those things are expensive
