255/45/19 tyres cheap!!!!!!

Long story cut very short, I had my 19" alloys refurbed and was tight with cash, put a set of 255/45/19 dunlops on there to tide me over, there 1% greater rolling radius than the 275/35/20 on the final edition alloys, whilst doing a bit of window shopping came across these....

Now I know maxxis have been around a long time, not had any dealings with them, and reviews are all over the place but seem to have gotten mostly positive recently, but at the end of the day I've just ordered 5 tyres for £140 delivered to my door so I'll give them a go, use the money I've saved here to pay for the timing chain tensioners and the gearbox service :D+++

Best thing is The part worns aren't even ready to be taken off yet  I just couldn't miss the opportunity.

mannyo 11th June 2015 06:40 AM

They are currently showing as £98 each, if you paid a lot less then I suspect it was a pricing error and the order will be cancelled.

Burnzybubbles 11th June 2015 07:41 AM

Hahahaha! Yes I paid £30 each, got a full set for of 5 for £140, not sure on European laws but if that was in England they'd have to warrant the sale, I've not received any cancelation emails as of yet, I'll let you know if they turn up +++

Edit: also unsure whether they would have to come under UK laws as they are selling them in the UK on a UK website, or at least the site is all in English, oh I don't know, I'd be surprised if they didn't warrant the sale though if in honest.

daviesbike 11th June 2015 08:17 AM

just tried the same .... Over 480 quid .., i suspect they have amended it now

Burnzybubbles 11th June 2015 08:30 AM

That's a shame lads, well I did try and give everyone a heads up, here's my invoice with sensitive info removed obviously.

They sometimes sell new old stock at very good prices, I bought a set of GoodYears for mine for less than half their normal price. They had 2 year old manufacturing stamps.

Yea I did that before but they usually state the DOT code on the advert, these apparently from their website layout should be brand spanking new, I think as previously mentioned they made a mistake or tried to shift a few by drastically reducing price, just waiting for my tracking number then I'll be a happy chappie :D

I saw your post last night and clicked the link while the price was £28 odd. Didnt buy though and when i clicked back half an hour later price had jumped. If i hadnt just thrown a wad on 255/35/20s I would have bought them as spares for my winters.

Let us know if they turn up, they don't have to honour the sale if there is an error. Plenty of cases of orders being cancelled from Amazon, Argos etc. when the price was wrong on the website.

Just looking at trading standards as it was always my belief that you had to warrant it, but they state basically if the transaction is completed and agreed, then unless the T&C state they can cancel the order up until delivery then they don't have much to go on, it looks like I'm in the clear, fingers crossed it comes through, I've got to find somewhere to store them now

Well done. It's the same size I use and a bargain at that price, but I still got plenty of tread on mine. And it was not that bad deal for myself, got a set of part used 2 year old GoodYear Eagle F1's with 7-7.5mm tread for £200 fitted last year but to be honest I am disappointed at cold weather and wet performance. Even this morning it was 11.5C dry and they started to oversteer going round the roundabout, had to hit the brake to shift the weight forward and get front under control, and they seem to wear quite fast. They have good grip in warmer weather though. My favorites have to be Michelins and Continentals lack slightly behind Michelin in performance but lasts just as long.

Would like to hear back how you get on with these.

Burnzybubbles 19th June 2015 09:41 PM

Not a problem, I'll put up here how I get on, I've also up sized my tyres to a 45 profile from 40, I usually use uniroyals or hankooks, the uniroyals are a very good tyre for there price, brilliant wet grip esp with the RS3's, until my tyres turned up I wasn't sure whether the spare would fit in the well, I'm glad to say it does  there isn't any room for error and hopefully once the tyre is mounted on a rim it will still fit haha!

mannyo 21st June 2015 05:52 PM

255/45x19 are the correct size for the D3, same as I have fitted on mine.

The correct size is a 40 profile, so 255/40/19, I haven't got the lappy on for etka but here is the tyre section on vagcat

http://www.vagcat.com/epc/cat/au/A8Q...91/54/3715922/

There isn't enough speedo margin on a 45 profile tyre it's 1-2mph out, where as on a 40 profile tyre it's close to 5mph which is the norm usually.

Edit: what is good to know is that your spare fits then by the sounds of things as I was a bit worried at first it wouldn't fit

Burnzybubbles 21st June 2015 10:46 PM

Will have these tyres mounted Saturday so will report how I get on with them.

Burnzybubbles 27th June 2015 04:40 PM

Got the tyres fitted, all 5 and air con recharged by a mate for £40 all in so happy chappy +++

Spare just about fitted in boot, I thought it wasn't going to go in but did with a push  the air on is freezing cold now, just in time for some of the hotter days, it can't of been done since new as it was useless before, the tyre have only done about 5 miles so hard to tell yet but seem quieter than the dunlops that came off, hopefully I loose the uneasy feel like a bush is worn that seemed to start when the dunlops where fitted.

tc4332 28th June 2015 09:46 AM

Burnzy, Matter of interest which Dunlops did you take off?

Burnzybubbles 28th June 2015 04:00 PM

Dunlop sp sportmaxx's I can't tell yet but I think the uneasy feeling has disappeared now with these other tyres.

tc4332 28th June 2015 06:50 PM

Thanks.
I have been running on them for nearly 18 months.
I've noticed that on certain surfaces they can be a bit noisy but have felt sure footed in all weathers.
OK I accept that being in my dotage I do not push as hard as I used to.

Burnzybubbles 28th June 2015 09:02 PM

They where well planted but they just felt un-easy when being pushed or uneven roads they would seem to skip about, they where part-worns though, just due to circumstances at the time and past experience with part worns it could of just been the tyres I'd fitted, they where all roughly the same tread across all four tyres so don't think it's that.
