Samsung A8

Samsung Galaxy A8 is Samsung's slimmest ever phone:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-33539644

Interesting coincidence that their model numbers have previously been S2, S3, S4, S5, S6 ... and now they release an A8.

I think I'll wait for the S8 phone :D

gavryus 16th July 2015 11:10 AM

I read in the past days about it as well, looks pretty good. The naming is actually an interesting coincidence since the S line(both from Samsung and Audi) represents the flagship and the As are more like "mid range". :D

And, by the looks of it, it's made of lightweight aluminium too.

Just needs a 4.2GHz processor :D

Well, the S7 is out: http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/...galaxy-s6-2-0/

And rumour has it that the S8 will be out early next year ...

Samsung Galaxy S8 design vision is purely about the styling:

New battery could mean the Samsung Galaxy S8 only charges once a week:

Finally a phone that can last as long on a charge as my Nokia 6310i !

tintin 15th March 2016 01:12 PM

The S7 is nice, and I'm glad to hear they've added back an external storage card: I've got an S6+ Edge, which is a lovely phone, and a real step up from the Samsung Note that it replaces, but the omission of this storage was a mistake. And I'll probably replace it with an S8 too +++

So, anyone planning to buy a Samsung S8 (or S8 Plus) to go with their Audi S8? :D

Ameiseuk 21st March 2017 04:59 PM

I'm due a change in July, the S8 will definitely be on the list

tintin 21st March 2017 05:42 PM

Yes, but no...

I'm a big fan of Samsung phones, having had the original Galaxy Note (pretty unique at the time), and now have the Galaxy 6 Edge Plus (lovely, lovely phone), and it'd be nice to have an '8 to go with my '8 - perhaps a black one in a red leather case, like this ).

However, in practical terms, I'm unlikely to buy one anytime soon for several "sensible" reasons:

1) I currently have four perfectly serviceable Android phones (The Edge, an LG G3, a OnePlusOne, and and HTC M8), and it now seems that the genuinely useful improvements in functionality have tailed off in the last few years. I have bluetooth, HD video/stills, the ability to cast from my 'phone to my large TV, lots of storage, etc, so I'm not sure what value I get from buying the "next shiny product"

2) If I was buying a new phone, I'd be more tempted by another OnePlus (like this - http://www.trustedreviews.com/oneplus-3-review ) at half the price of buying an HTC/Samsung/LG

In fact, what's more likely is that I'll change my main 'phone plan to a SIM only one, for the reasons given about, and save myself somewhere between £300 and £500 a year ;)

Surely it should be black on the outside, red on the inside?

Probably not much chance of Samsung releasing one in platinum grey :-(

Like you, if I bought one it would just be buying one for the sake of it. I have everything I need in my present tablets and phones, which are already SIM only.

Maybe I'll wait until just before they release its successor. Perhaps then they'll release a Final Edition model! :D

Talking phone and sim only
I have transferred SWMBOs and mine to ID at 10£ for Gwen and £15 for me. So now I'm paying less for the two than I was for just mine.
AND (sorry for shouting) neither of us hits any of the limits. In fact unused data allowance is rolled forward so mine is building, brilliant.
Mine is a Samsung S5, G has an iPhone, both happy with them.

Do I need to renew my phones? :D

M-A8 22nd March 2017 10:59 AM

Honestly, no. You've got two great classics there, 3310 and 6210, these two phones has changed my life back in the day. What I would do Neil is add to this collection Nokia 6100 which is my ultimate best Nokia ever, then 6210 and 3rd place 3310.
I actually got a 6100 Audi cradle so I may bring that back to life soon.

moltuae 22nd March 2017 11:52 AM

Nowt wrong with them phones Neil +++

I still use a 6310i as my main business mobile. I have the Cullman cradle, so it works in the D2. It fits in my pocket better than a smart phone and it lasts at least a week on a full charge.

I have a Samsung Galaxy phone too, but I don't use it for calls, just internet access.

HPsauce 22nd March 2017 11:59 AM

6310i is a winner, I keep 2 for holidays as they last up to a month without charging when roaming abroad. +++

Like many of us I have a very "eclectic" collection, of which the Nokia 8146 (banana phone with slide cover) is a favourite.
http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/vinta.../76747_640.jpg

One I have that I doubt anyone else does is a Nokia 101.
Basic phone, very small, two SIM cards (both active) and a torch.
