A8 & S8 Xmas Meet 2015 - lets hear your views please

Hi all

I'd like to organise another xmas/new year meet as we have done in the past few years - so the questions I have for you all is -

- Who is interested in coming along?
- Date wise is Sunday 27thDec best or perhaps the monday/tues/weds 28th/29th/30th?
- How far can you travel? we have previously held it in stoke on trent and also down at the leopard inn near leamington spa
- Has anyone got any suggestions as to where to meet bearing in mind its a social we want to meet up with as many owners as we can!

Views & replies back on this thread asap please as I need to arrange things and book anywhere to eat

Thanks all! +++

tintin 29th November 2015 03:34 PM

I'd love to, but won't be able to this year, but I'm looking forward to the pics already +++

HPsauce 29th November 2015 03:37 PM

Hi Neil,
For me/us 27th is out as we will have family around and Monday 28th is probably the same as not all will have left. So Tue/Wed are best.

The Leopard is a decent run up the M40 for us, Stoke would probably be too far.

But everyone will have different constraints of course and the weather on the day will no doubt be a factor.
(I remember standing in freezing rain outside The Leopard a few years back :-( )

tc4332 29th November 2015 04:54 PM

Ve Haf Vays ov making you attend.
Seriously I am up for it, especially if not too far to travel. The Xmas meet last year was manageable, but personally Stoke would be better. I will try and not be selfish, wherever is decided I will do my utmost to attend.

oldnick 29th November 2015 06:00 PM

would love to come and meet some of the contributors to this forum ,especially it is clear that I am not the only BOF here !

but as it is already a thousand Km to get me to southampton it really is too much of a stretch for my old bones

it may be a little early but joyeaux noel et bonne annee to all

tc4332 29th November 2015 06:53 PM

In my case when they call me BOF they mean "Boring Old Fahrt".
In your case "Brave Original Frenchtraveller"?

Is that "behind me" in years?
My DOB 13/11/1939

Architex_mA8tey 30th November 2015 09:18 PM

Come on all, this post has had 105 views and only about 3 comments from people letting me know what you'd like to or are able to do. If people don't want a Xmas meet then carry on with the silence! I can't believe that 105 people have viewed it and so far only 2'or 3'people have shown any interest in coming along!

Norretal 30th November 2015 09:23 PM

I can't commit to anything Neil, I'm away on holiday for New Year so will be leaving home on the 29th.

I'm looking forward to the annual meet though, hopefully I'll be in employment by then and able to enjoy the trip fully +++

Hi Ron - thanks for the reply - so in your case is the 27th or 28th not something you'd be likely to want to come to, even if it was further north than previous years? I'm just trying to get an idea of how many people want to come or can come and on what dates and how far from home in each case! +++

Delboy 30th November 2015 09:34 PM

I won't be able to make this this year either due to work commitments.

Norretal 30th November 2015 09:37 PM

Neil, I was basing my response on it being down South but if it was somewhere nearer I'd certainly consider attending. Any excuse to get the thirsty beast on the road. It'd only be the 27th or 28th for me

Well put it this way if 10 people from north or Scotland want to come then that has a huge impact on where and when it is held so that's why I wanted everyone's views on what they can or can't do and if they want to have a Xmas meet or not!
Yours are noted thanks Ron - any more for any more? +++

moltuae 1st December 2015 08:12 AM

We're in Southampton for Xmas, travelling back on the 27th.

We could detour like last time (The Leopard Inn meet) on the way back and stop for a few hours if it's not too far off-route. So really anywhere within half an hour or so of our M40/M42/M6 Southampton to Manchester route would be good, if it's the 27th. :)

HPsauce 1st December 2015 08:19 AM

So far Neil, it sounds like somewhere on a line between you and me but convenient for moltuae. Windsor/Beaconsfield/Wycombe axis?

Thought Adrian_E might have chipped in too, especially if it's "darn sarf"...

Might be an idea to meet at a tourist attraction .... eg Windsor Castle, Bletchley Park. There would probably be admission fees of course (group discount maybe?) but it could provide a good photo backdrop and, where we'll probably all be arriving at different times, it'll give anyone waiting things to do/see.

Conquistador 1st December 2015 09:02 AM

Any of those dates should be fine by me, Neil. I'll certainly come along if it's around that central area.

Goran 1st December 2015 11:35 AM

I'm flying to sunny (hopefully) Espania on 26th, I would have liked to come but physically wont be here :)

I was looking at the possibility of the Gaydon Motor Museum and the Leopard again as they are extremely close, but the Gaydon Museum has just closed its doors for a revamp and will be re-born as the "British Motor Museum" in |February next year so that will bee one for another day.

I'm struggling to find any good venues that are actually open between xmas and new year on the dates we are looking at, which is why it may be better to just pick somewhere central with good parking or backdrops and good food and just organise it there.

Any more views on who can and cant come? for example if it was further north will more people from the manchester/leeds areas come or from scotland etc, or if thats not likely then we would get more people to a meeting based around birmingham or northampton etc and I can then sort that +++

I don't mind how far it is really. It's only fuel to get there and always worth a catch up with people. I am also happy to have people over at my place if not many northern folk are attending.
Parking for 60 cars + and 4000 square feet of workshop to tinker in and the tipple in pub right next door and sevanak forrest just up the road.
I'm sure the pub could accommodate us for lunch ! +++

We know when we're not wanted, eh Stephen?

But that's ok, us northern riff-raff can have our own meets ;)

tc4332 5th December 2015 09:29 AM

Visiting Guy is only 2.5 hours for us and under the right circumstances is easily doable.
But just for Mark Guy's offering is not very far from the A34 (You know what I mean Mark) :rockin:

awolfinsheepsclothes 5th December 2015 09:30 AM

I was happy enough with the leopard last year it's close enough for me from north of Manchester. I know it's a bit of trek from Scotland though.

I don't thinl I will be going this year because 8 is off road without MOT since September. I have not gone to MOT because it has oil leak, it's not too bad and it might pass MOT as it is, just couple of drops on the driway but I wanted to sort it out first before going for MOT. Just have not had time, I think it is probably from gearbox frnt diff but have not had a proper look yet.

Thanks Guy but I'm thinking further north than that to get as many people as possible coming. We will however try to organise a southern meet in the spring which involves Beaulieu Car Museum visit followed by a cruise to the workshops where we could either have a barbecue or go to the pub for food +++

We are now becoming rather close to the Xmas period and we need to make plans. Otherwise management will say she has prior claim 'cos of arrangements already made.
Please organise something so that I can escape, pretty please.
