D3 serviceable shock bits
1 Attachment(s)
Hi All,
I am having trouble finding the info I need about my leaking left front shock on my 2006 D3 A8. The leak is coming from the brass inlet valve on the side of the shock(see photo). My question is "are these bits serviceable"? I would really hate to replace the shock be it recon/second hand if all that was required were a few o-rings. I know the info would be on here somewhere but being new here I am having navigational jitters. Any help greatly appreciated. |
It's not a common problem. Where is it leaking? Where two different colour metals seal?
|
As far as I am aware there are no end user serviceable parts. if air is leaking from where you say it could just be a side effect of air leaking from the bag and escaping where you see it.
You can buy refurbished parts from the likes of Arnott rather than OEM if you need to save a few dollars. |
I'm afraid your only real route of repair is a replacement, the brass fitting is secured from the inside and it's unlikely you can get to it withoutif stripping the strut down which is not a good idea without the experience or equipment the like of the supplier will have.

If you are in Queensland then WW Shock Absorbers in Brisbane do reconditioning. Its worth a call.

D3 Servicable shock bits
Many thanks Boris. It seems there are so many options on you side of the world. I have spent the afternoon here looking for second hand parts with absolutely no luck whatsoever.
Enquiry sent to Airdominace for quote. Thankyou Chris. |
Sorry mate just saw your location :-)
Didn't pay attention |
That brass part on the Touareg is serviceable.
Unblot and bolt new in, we had to make a tool to do the job, but it worked. The end of that part looks like a bolt head? What does etka say? I've stripped down a couple of all road shocks easily, I got no idea what the A8s are like. But don't put slime in the bags, it don't work. |

Gents Thanks for the feed back.
I am basically snookered here in Aus. There is one shock available in the country @ $4000.00 aus which is bull#$^t. Yet thanks to Borys I can get a set, YES a set from airdominance @$1600.00 Aus for the two shocks Air Freightd via DHL to my place in Aus for 280.00 Aus. That's 1/2 price for a set let alone 4K for 1. Thanks for the info Borys, I think I know what I am going to do.+++ Regards Chris |
Pity you are not in WA as I am flying out there in 5 weeks time and i would have couriered them for you.

Hi all,
I have managed to get back to my little problem after some interuptions and have stumbled across this: http://www.air-suspension-shop.com/A...al-spare-parts Was wondering if anyone has installed one as this is what's leaking on my LF shock. Is the changeover as easy as it looks?????? If I can replace this I have solved my problem. As always any help greatly appreciated in advance. Chris |
Chris, well found.
I have no experience here but the translation they have on their web page is very good, gives me confidence in their product. Good luck with this, after all €50 is a lot less than the other prices you were quoted. |
Oooh. Certainly looks interesting. May be worth an email or two to ask about installation and so forth. Quality looks good, price isn't bad and it shouldn't be hard to airmail etc!

Hi All,
Thanks for the feed back. I anyone is interested my new pressure control valve for my LH front shock arrived the other day. See Below: Before I replaced the new unit I had a small leak around the gasket area where the unit attaches to the shock housing itself. This was sealed with a flexible adhesive sealant Sikaflex 221. The new valve was then screwed into place(no need for sealant tape etc as all parallel threads with o-rings). The Sika was given a couple of hours to cure the wheel put back on and started the car. It took a couple of minutes to re align itself height wise but all is good, just like a brand new system. So far so good. Can I suggest if you have leaks in this area this may well be the way to go. New pressure control valve - 50.00 euro. New seal kit for compressor - 25.00 pound sterling(because I stuffed it by driving vehicle). Once again thanks for the feedback. Chris. |
