who to contact at Audi UK re. issues

my 4.2Tdi has the gear box issue i.e. a harsh 4 to3 downshift.
looking at this forum there was a TSB issued for this.
called Audi Leicester yesterday, they had nothing on their system.
except the last service at 100K the rest were done at Audi dealerships.
i want to contact Audi to see if they can offer any goodwill?

if they dont will a good Audi specialist be able to do the same: blue gearbox oil and gear adaptation?

cheers raj

Architex_mA8tey 22nd March 2016 08:02 AM

I think the TSB is - Technical Service Bulletin 2013023/1

Where abouts in the country are you?

goldsax 22nd March 2016 08:06 AM

many thanks for the info.
wonder why dealership says there is no recall for this situation.
now to contact Audi armed with this info.
cheers raj

The trouble with Technical Service Bulletin 2013023/1 is that it is issued by Audi of America and is nothing to do with Audi AG or Audi UK.
Green fluid G060152 replaced the blue some years ago - just ask them to change fluid and update firmware - and see if it improves. You need to do a special adaptation drive afterwards which I find it is best to do yourself..

I believe Audi refuses to change the fluid because it is "sealed for life", unless they have changed their policy recently? Plenty of threads about this subject on this forum.

goldsax 22nd March 2016 12:13 PM

just spoke to Audi,

SEALED FOR LIFE
SEALED FOR LIFE
SEALED FOR LIFE.

was their reply. they were adamant that these boxes should not need/have oil changed. and they were not going to change UK/Europe procedures for little old me.. USA cars are different spec..
good indi specialist has quoted me £190 for oil and £50 for adaptation.

i think i will just book it in.
thanks raj

Are they, are they really. I know the emissions are different, or are they the same, or does it just depend if it's on test? i can't remember now :p
Would be interesting to see the differences in flulid "specs" between the UK and US cars.

Guy was offering gearbox servicing http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthrea...hlight=gearbox

i am sure they were making it up just like the term sealed for life!! i am sure there is no difference in the oil..
i have read the threads on this and would like it to be seen by an expert such as Guy but i am in Leicestershire!!

I can recommend Guy too. On a different note £190 sounds suspiciously cheap....

mattylondon 22nd March 2016 02:48 PM

Sealed for life just means Audi can omit this service to make the cost of ownership low on paper, which appeals to fleet users.

. . . and this is what ZF themselves finally changed their opinion to -

ZF Statement on Sealed For Life Gearboxes

It's not really, Mackies in Glasgow are one of the few "A" rated ZF agents in the UK and they do it for around £150 for the D2 S8+++

Yeah I know, would be curious to know why it might cost more though, must be a similar process I guess, unless more bits need removed such as exhaust etc?

...and he's unwilling to even travel to Guy, let alone to Glasgow ;)

HPsauce 22nd March 2016 09:47 PM

Isn't D3 fluid more expensive, especially the "uprated" stuff?

From memory the fluid and parts alone are more than £200. Mackies charges something like £450-£500 for the D3.

As for using Guy, I live in Wigan and am happy to travel to Guy. After all it is only time and fuel, and you know the job will be done correctly.
There are other experts but I like to use the ones that have looked after me and proven their worth.

Same here, but @ Manchester, and for Mackies. Travel really shouldn't be a barrier if you want it done properly.

Duffy took my S8 D3 to Mackies and had the gearbox service done, I've not noticed anything other than smooth operation throughout my time so far. So that's good to be a positive vouch for their service

I want the job done asap. or should I wait till June to take it to Guy? you all know how it is when these little car issues irritate you. esp as she is my daily driver.
why June, because, it will def take a whole day out of my schedule and being 45 years of age means there are more pressing issues such as, taxi dad, gardening, shopping with wife, DIY, studying for my final year MSc

Lee S 24th March 2016 12:34 PM

Wait an get it done properly... go cheap, pay twice +++

Mine is on 58k at the moment so I will book mine in at Mackies in the summer. What better than a slow cruise up to Glasgow early morning to get your gearbox serviced and then the slow cruise back down. Wonderful. Distance should be no worry in these things....
