Snag list

Today I decided to create a list of faults my car is currently carrying.

Most if not all are electrical and all are intermittent, no real pattern.

Adaptive headlight fault and bulb failure (NS)
Driver door handle LEDs
Auto boot just unlocks but not open, doesn't even whine/strain
DIS blank/black on start up for 2-3 mins
Rear windows sometimes will not fully close at one touch

Could a weak battery be the cause or is the A8 prone to elec gremlins?

An additional question. Should the boot and fuel buttons in the drivers door illuminate? Mine do not.

Other than that engine pulls like a train, gearbox is great and MOT due on Friday!

Many thanks.

I would say probably yes, I get intermittent low battery charge warnings and the boot only opens automatically when the car is running or has been running for a while. Put it on a CTEK the other day, seemed to solve the issue, 3 days later, same problem, got the battery low charge warning again today. Charged her again and all is now well once more!

Good luck with the MOT

Does the button on the inside of the boot lid illuminate?

As an aside -assuming your battery is ok and holding a charge etc - try recoding the battery with vagcom like it is having a new one fitted, it may stop your battery management issues at least for several months. On some cars the battery management module creates issues that aren't there, and the only way to deal with it is to renew the battery management module or to recode the battery which is kinda like resetting the service light for the battery
Just go into the battery coding and change the end digit to +1 from where it is and you'll probably find all is well again for a long while +++

I bought a new bootlid motor not realising the reason my bootlid didn't rise electrically was because of a battery with little charge!

Ameiseuk 5th September 2016 05:52 AM

A new battery solved over 50% of the initial electrical gremlins after i bought mine

Only happens when the battery is low on charge. Happens to me often..there is something draining the power somewhere but the Energy management system does a good job at keeping enough charge to start the engine.

Got the Weak Battery message today for the first time. I do not have the ability to code so looks like I'm heading to a main dealer. Thanks all for the input.

Turbo Tony 7th September 2016 06:51 PM

Aren't you pretty close to me? I'd be happy to code your new battery for you, if required. I just need my VCDS from my glovebox first.

Audidothat 7th September 2016 07:16 PM

Yep, thanks for the kind offer. I am in Putney weekdays, SW at the weekends. That would be great if you could, imagine it would save some £££.

Turbo Tony 7th September 2016 08:03 PM

Yeah, it's no problem at all. I did mine a few weeks after I bought the car. How soon do you want to do it? Sadly, I have no idea when I'll be getting my car back and my VCDS is sitting in it's glovebox.

I'm close to West London Audi/Heathrow area. Don't be too surprised if I start drooling over your car... or pawing longingly at the gearbox!

Or if you can make it to the southern meet on Sunday (port Solent and Beaulieu ) then we can code it for you there +++

I haven't replied to the other thread as didn't want to set an expectation but I am planning on driving down if I get the chance, will probably go straight to Beaulieu though.

Is there a recommended source/ battery supplier anyone can recommend? I phoned Audi and they couldn't/wouldn't tell me which battery I would need, instead said bring her in and we'll check.

I'm amazed everyone wants to go straight to beaulieu, how can you have a car meet without having a cruise somewhere with all the cars together??
I'll ask everyone who is going what they want to do on the thread as the chances of all ending up together in the car park at beaulieu if we dont arrive together is almost nil!

I bought a Varta i1. The size you need is an 020. Varta also make an AGM (gel) version of the battery and some on here have had really good results from it. I went with the conventional because of the slightly higher capacity. I bought mine online at PureDrive batteries Ltd.

Thanks for the info, I have just ordered one. when it arrives can I take you up on your offer of coding assistance.

Turbo Tony 8th September 2016 06:55 PM

No problemo. As soon as I can get my VCDS out of my car, I'd be happy to code your battery for you. +++

Thank you for your help this afternoon, it was a real pleasure to meet you.

Thanks for your patience whilst I fiddled around trying to remove the battery with the tiny spanner in the toolkit!!!

Turbo Tony 19th September 2016 05:30 PM

Ha! No problem at all. I was actually really impressed that you managed to swap a battery with just those two tiny tools... I swear when I did mine it took everything in my Stanley kit!

Audidothat 21st September 2016 07:35 AM

So it may appear my celebrations were a tad premature. My boot lid continues to only auto open after the car has been driven or the engine is running. First thing in the morning is a no, the delay in DIS booting is still there first thing as well.

I haven't had the battery warning though. We changed a 7 year old battery though so I have no complaints there, just hoped it would solve my problems.

Turbo Tony 21st September 2016 05:37 PM

I'm sorry to hear that Ben. It sounds like your car doesn't know it's got a new battery. I just checked the coding on your car and I remember the old serial number ending with 32 and it now says 33.

If you'd like to retry, feel free to pop by anytime.

Thanks for the check and the offer but I think something is draining the battery, just have to figure out what!?!? It makes no sense!

Turbo Tony 23rd September 2016 01:04 PM

Please post back when you find it... I'm sure mine has some vampire drain too!
