Audi S8 D3 V10

It breaks my heart that you're selling her, but I understand your decision.
Best of luck with the sale, I'd have been tempted myself. +++ |
Thanks mate, its a shame, but I took 32 flights last year and already have loads of trips booked this year for work, if car parks don't provide CCTV and the police don't care (as is now patently evident) I can't be stressing about what I am going to come back to next time, its not worth living like that.
Valet service doesn't work either as last time I used one of those, someone put a big groove down the N/S doors of my S4 and they denied liability, so I always park myself now. God knows what people with Ferraris and Lambos feel (although they have more money!) |
Always liked that car, lovely example and has been well looked after. Good luck with the sale and really sorry you have to part with it, if I could afford the additional cost of a divorce I would be at your door tomorrow+++

It's a beautiful car just from that one photo, so I hope it goes to someone on here where it will continue to be cared for. |
So gutted for you mate and I know how you when you leave the car at the airport. I don't do 20 flights, but when I do I always book the business plus car park at Heathrow due to much more spaces available so I'm always lucky and I'm able to tuck the car in one of the end corners near the kerb (inch away) to give as much room to anyone who decides park next to me plus not much traffic near the end bays so overhang has never been an issue.
Anyway, I wish you all the best with the sale/interviews mate :D I hope you will find a perfect new home for her. |
Believe me I am hoping I can find a solution in order to keep her, I have been flipping back and forth since the second incident about what to do, whether to keep her or sell her, I certainly wont be letting her go for peanuts, I am not desperate, and if I can find a good solution I most certainly will. I have even toyed with using the track car for airport runs, but it wont be the most comfortable way of doing it, and security is an issue as wires are exposed and stuff - unless I fit a quick release steering wheel and Battery kill switch.
Anyway, took some pics yesterday - she looks gorgeous, I love the look of this car, funny cause I didn't want Silver to start with. http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/...psoxcgdwqv.jpg http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/...psmuidlja3.jpg http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1weuxlgf.jpg http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0ruu7bzt.jpg http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/...pssy64jivp.jpg http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/...psnj2e19hn.jpg http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/...psgp5dreye.jpg http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/...psalzb1uqo.jpg http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/...psk5kndtn5.jpg http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/...psp6aji5co.jpg http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3iuxvplk.jpg |
How about building canopy (steel preferably) to store the car under, fit at least couple of CCTV cameras and put money you spent of airport parking towards reliable airport cabs??
|
Its safe as anything at home we are in a little cul-de-sec with only two other houses, its when I park anywhere else, a canopy with CCTV can't be taken with me.
The more I think about it since writing the advert, the more I am erring on the side of keeping her, but need to work out how to do it. Sad times |

ha ha ha, I have looked at those before for the track car. Always worried me that someone would drive off with it, car included, unless I got posts, but then I would need a bigger drive, which would mean moving, which would mean a bigger house, which would mean...
|
Space and funds permitting, what about having an old 'banger', an A3 or A4 Avant, for doing the airport and shopping runs? It won't eliminate the parking issues 100% of the time, but might ease the worry somewhat for those particular ones.
|
That's what our old Ford Focus was used for, among many other somewhat damage-prone activities.
|
I used to have 3 cars - my S8, the TT and my restored Audi Cabriolet, she has a 500, it was all fine when my neighbour opposite let me park on his drive for the 10 months of the year he was living in Thailand, but now thats not happening anymore and he is back, I had to sell the Cabriolet, so space is a major issue.
Lots more thinking to do, I need to either man up and accept that if it gets dinked its going to be insurance/out of pocket or suck it up and sell. The thought of her getting damaged again does my head in, I stress about it all the time, and add that onto the stresses of getting a major bill at some point for some random electronic failure somewhere, or a gearbox/engine issue (my mates AMG 63 had a new ESP unit at £1200 + Fitting) just scares the crap out of me. I understand you can't run a car without expense, I just don't want the expense other idiots on the road have given me so far, running the car isn't a problem, actually, its been cheaper and more reliable than either of my S4s and certainly more than my restoration Cabriolet |
Very tidy car that one...i would be scared to leave it on car parks , having a really tidy car can be a hinderance more than a help , you dont want to leave it anywhere as a lot of folk just have no consideration for other peoples property ....see it all the time on car parks ....old bin pulls up at the side of a nice car ...kids flinging the doors open against the nice car .... the kids dont care and neither do the parents .
good luck with which ever way you go with it +++ |
Been doing a lot of talking with friends and family - particularly my brother who is also a petrol head - I've come to the conclusion that nothing last forever and you have to enjoy things while you have them.
Put some things into perspective, and its only worth stressing about things that happen, not what ifs Car is no longer for sale |
I think you made the right decision. I was going to PM you with this suggestion and thinking but you already reached the right conclusion...
For the same price; your smaller alternative would probably not give you the same driver experience or smile. There are better cars out there, sure, but probably not for the same money. |

That's a good way to look at it, why the actions of a few other people/idiots stop you having what you want and enjoy. I hope your luck turns around, fitting cameras might would help with peace of mind and catch anyone being stupid.
|
Very pleased to hear that Lee. Get a decent dash cam install for some peace of mind (mine goes in tomorrow) and just enjoy what is truly a fantastic machine.
|
Good that you've consulted a shrink (brother) and he's helped you get some perspective.
It's only a car. A great car, and one you can only enjoy if you have it. Enjoy. Sh1t happens, a dented car is not sh1t |

Thanks for positives guys, sorry about my wobble!
|
A great result.
I suffered similar anxieties when I owned the RS6. I was convinced every time I parked it somewhere it would either be damaged or missing when I return. I was proven entirely wrong. 12 months of pain free ownership in that regard. I think in reality whilst we see our beloved Audis as the monster desirable machines that they are, to most people they're just a big 4 door car and don't really attract any attention from the average joe. My general principal is to either park it as afar away from everything as possible, or on an edge space where I can bleed over the line giving more room, or worst case circle round and park it next to the most expensive thing I can find hoping they're more bothered about their car, than mine +++ Enjoy it +++ |

That news made my weekend! Glad to hear it! +++

Good to see you reached the correct decision!

How's the 90? Did you ever get a D4? |

Wise words there as well. If your car was getting wrecked each trip then I would understand if it costed you more in repairs than actually running cost. Well done mate and really happy for you +++ So what's the next mod/Retrofit then :D |

Then, I need Turbo Tony to hurry up and fit a standard exhaust so I can buy his milltek. I've done nearly 10k since the major service so will get her serviced again, dyno, carbon clean, dyno Be good once and for all to see what these FSI engines lose power wise through coking- I've not seen a hard facts account yet anywhere so I'll take one for the team in the name of research. After that a new set of wheels for summer and winter tyres for these for winter |
