New Top Gear 2017
Not sure if this has been posted already.
I saw the trailer for the new TG recently, whilst it looks entertaining, I was rather hoping the format would change a bit more. It looks like they are still doing the challenges that were in the previous series and also on The Grand Tour. http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/lat...p-gear-trailer Hopefully there will be better reviews of cars and more chemistry between the presenters. Just have to wait and see. |
They will have a hard act to follow, just watched the last episode of Grand Tour, the bugs have been ironed out of the new program.
Clarkson, May and Hammond are beginning to get into their stride. Me wants the 2000hp Nissan Patrol!!!! |

I agree. The last episode was the best so far I think. Looking forward to the new series already. |
Any idea when the next series will be launched ?

Nissan Skyline R33 GTR drivetrain with RB26 engine tuned to 2000hp
Apparently quite an easy build on to a short wheel base Y61 Patrol. I've had both a Y60 and Y61 patrol over the years - absolute bucket loads of room in the engine bay to fit. Probably why the Porsche slaying Patrol looked so stock (apart from the wide rims with slick tyres) |
I am actually looking forward to this year's Top Gear without the Gingerbread man.
When it comes to GT, I have a mixed feelings after seeing the entire season. Quite few good episodes, but some were just a waste of time. |
There's room for both shows.
As car enthusiasts, we're underserved. Having both to watch is a real bonus :) LeBlanc will be great, Reid always impresses with his presenting style (and has done for years on CneT) and Harris lends the show credibility with hardcore petrol heads who've enjoyed his thing for years now. The only question mark for me, is the creative team behind the show. With key writers leaving the BBC to go to W Chump & Sons - can the remaining guys come up with good content? I think they'll be OK. |
I watched the new series of Top Gear last night, did anyone else here?
I thought the first episode was quite good and much better than last years. As much as I don't like the "celebrity" section it was good to see the old track back. One thing I would like is for them to actually test a car, I don't mean s £2m Ferrari but something a little more down to earth! I know Rory said he's looking at a Renault Twingo(?) soon so maybe there will be more of that coming up. Looking forward to the next episode. |

Much improved in lots of ways in my opinion. Great to see the piece on "high milers" showing there is plenty of life left in a car with 500K miles on it.
It clearly doesn't have the budget of the Amazon produced series but in ways it may be all the better for it. |
Think it goes along the lines of "if it ain't broken...."
3 presenters having a bit of banter, mix of high end stuff to drool over and down to earth stuff that is affordable and some fun with a celebrity in a reasonable car. Cheese and the Ginger one have gone. Thumbs up from me +++ |
I enjoyed it. There was some positive chemistry between the presenters, and with confidence this could grow. The 'moon & back' mileage cars piece was good. All in all a success
The rotters. They mentioned Ronin...... and then showed an M5. Bah! |
I enjoyed it too, was pretty good, and as said above we petrol heads are the winners in all this, we have two decent car shows now which must be better than the ****e that current dumbing down of TV has resulted in TBH+++
And Nick I agree, how could they mention Ronin and not show the S8...:tuttut: |
We just watched it and really enjoyed it. Bodes well for the rest of the series +++
|
I am pleased to say I liked it, although Harris doesn't seem to like the studio elements, he came across as stilted to me.
Overall 8/10 from me! |
I watched it last night and I like it. I laughed and it was fun and interesting.
Thumbs up from me too +++ |
I've downloaded it but I haven't watched it yet. Might give it a go soon, although I still haven't watched a single episode of the first series yet either, despite having downloaded all of those too.
I see the new Top Gear as a replacement for Fifth Gear, which for me was one of those programs you watch last thing at night (on your own) when you can't sleep. By contrast, the old Top Gear and The Grand Tour are entertainment shows that SWMBO is happy to watch with me. Far-fetched, contrived and obviously scripted, but no more so than any other comedy show or sitcom and just as fun to watch. Fifth Gear was never something I rushed to download and watch, in fact I only recently finished watching the last few episodes. Since I've got no more of them to watch, the new Top Gear will probably fill that gap for me. |

This clip - old now - is a really good example of what he does: 10 minutes of well informed, but down to earth, opinion - without an ounce of ego weighting it down. https://youtu.be/lsCVoYvRaZk |
We are 4 episodes in and I am still watching! There were elements in the last one I didn't like (computer game sequence) but that was also true when Larry, Curly and Mo were presenting.
I think Matt LB is really growing into the presenting role, I bet he moves beyond Top Gear for the BBC. |
We really enjoyed the pacman bit :D

I was looking forward to the review of the Chiron, but was left a bit disappointed. As Chris said in the review, the Chiron is more of an evolution of the Veyron than revolution, and as such, all the superlatives associated with it just don't seem that ... superlative.
Compare that review with Clarksons review of the Veyron some years back, where he enthused about all the specs; the engine, the turbos, the fuel, the speed, the air, everything. |
Still enjoying TG, and we enjoyed the Chiron piece. I think what he said was that the superlatives were already taken by the Veyron. Whereas the Chiron is a more nuanced progression from that. Hence less superlatives available to use.
I'm betting that Chiron steering wheel will fit my 8. Now I just have to find one ..... for less than £,£££,£££.££'s ;) |
Chris Harris IMO, is a huge talent. He doesn't seem at home acting out in the studio, which I can understand. I've long championed him. Next fella to watch, again IMO is Joe Achilles. Great YouTuber, and I think he'd slot well into TG. I even spotted him in the audience the other week!

Anyone see last night's?. Jordan interviewing Ecceleston..must be the most weird thing I have ever seen on TV:Confused:

It was a tad surreal, and at times candid but also verging on predictable and indulgent I thought.
|
The Bernie interview had little interest to me, his opinions are now irrelevant, he doesn't run the sport anymore, thank the lord

On another note, is it just me or did they not make any mention of missing a week due to the golf? Usually they make a comment that they won't be on the following week. |
I watched the Bernie interview, short and pointless? As Pete-p said, nothing new either.
Last show in this series they said. |

I note in the press that praise for Matt Le Blanc is high and I agree, I think the trio really work well together. As an aside, I overtook Jeremy Clarkson on the M4 last week. At first I didn't notice it was him, I'd slowed to look at a brand new, orange, Audi TT RS and he was driving. He looked over and me and I think he liked the S8! He was behind me for ages and then peeled off for the A34 at Newbury. Hello JC if you're reading this! |

You can't have too many cars on the TV, but still won't be paying for Amazon for the other lot, Hammond gets right up my nose the little twerp :p Car SOS this series is a winner too |
