The one benefit of owning a 3.7

Got my insurance renewal quote today, £212.80 :D

HPsauce 27th April 2018 09:09 AM

Can't quite beat that, just paid £215.04 for my S8. I can afford that extra £2.24 pa.

Naturally insurance premiums are not on the consideration list when owning these cars, but it's great that they can be so low. And your price is amazing +++

HPsauce 27th April 2018 09:48 AM

To be fair I pay extra on top of that for NCD protection and legal and breakdown cover. But that's the premium with maximum NCD which I have.

pete-p 27th April 2018 10:10 AM

Both very good premiums. Mine wasn't too bad at £299 including legal, hopefully it'll be a little cheaper again this year after shopping around.

HPsauce 27th April 2018 10:17 AM

Only £266 here including NCD protection and Legal cover.

Yikes! £378 last August for mine. Fully comp. with protected no claims, driver only. Will rise to at least £450 this year because I told them I was 'unemployed' and not 'retired' as they had on my previous details.

Are you sure you aren't a "house keeper" rather than unemployed?

Technically speaking mine should be something like 'medically unfit to work', but who knows what effect that would have on my premiums?

I was told the increase from 'retired' to 'unemployed' was because as 'unemployed', I would be driving more!

Another benefit for all of us 3.7 owners is that because the 3.7 gearbox is fractionally narrower than the 4.2 gearboxes, then an MJ can *just about* get to the bolts to change the steering rack through the wheel arches without taking the whole engine out :D:

Djinny 27th April 2018 09:20 PM

Sounds like the 3.7 brings money home?
Stop bragging :-) Ahh... I'm not jealous. Not at all.
I found another way to escape high bills. My insurance company won't harrass me with bills anymore, they have become taciturn. My complaint something like that:

Dear insurance,
thank you for reminding me of checking my online bills.
I am in the habit of checking bills at random and only occasionally. I don't wish to get concerned with your bills more often than it is inevitable.
Please use the direct debit mandate you have and stop sending me email reminders.
Thank you very much for improving your customer friendliness.

I haven't received a single demand to read my bills anymore ever since.

Nice one Matt. That’s not a bad price at all. I pay £365 for mine, nice area, 11 yrs NCD. I thought my renewal was ok. Now, not so much!

mannyo 29th April 2018 11:28 AM

I am wondering what my renewal in June is going to bring for my D3 3.7, last year it was £199 fully comp with business use and max NCD.

Slightly off topic, but a good news story about insurance costs for a change! +++

I just called Privilege (who also insure the S8) to add our daughter temporarily to the Volvo as she is visiting us over the Bank Holiday and going house hunting.
Added for a few days, breakdown cover (also with Privilege) extended for her, NO CHARGE! Not even an admin fee! :snigger:

Only minor constraint is a higher accidental damage excess while she's driving, no idea why and they didn't explain.
