For Sale - 2004 Audi S4 Cabriolet

2004 Audi S4 Cabriolet - AF04 FLR
V8 powered, 344PS, 6 speed manual gearbox http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1531831751 Phantom Black pearlescent paint, black acoustic roof Red leather interior, carbon fibre trim Symphony II double din radio / 6 CD changer 18 inch Avus wheels, matching tyres 4-5mm all round Milltek catback exhaust – sounds awesome! 168,600 miles covered, high motorway miles in early life which has significantly reduced under my ownership. Regularly serviced, supplied with a folder full of history, documentation and invoices.
Current MOT until 29th June 2019. Polishes up well for a 14 year old car, but isn't showroom fresh paint wise, some slight rust on front wings and stone chips & minor paint marks in-line with age and mileage. There is no chain rattle on cold start, car uses some oil but that is not unusual (I've had 3 or 4 S4s over the years, all did!). There is no clutch slip, no cooling issues (aux rads are not leaking), it has had a replacement starter motor. Mileage has been low the last few years (as the MOT history shows), but it has been kept connected to a CTEK charger and run and used regulary! As it stands it is a great car, but as you would expect there are a few niggles that I want to be open about. Normally I’d resolve before sale, but a 2 year old and 2 week old take all of my spare time, so I will factor into the price!

Well, the timing couldn't be worse for me, but I'm still tempted by it all the same.
Mileage is the killer. Very tough to price it really. Can't quite see if its got heated seats and / or cruise. Its few niggles do add up (although the honesty is always appreciated). No working roof, and no air-con are immediate issues I'd want to fix. Would I rather drive this, than my D3 ? Yes. 90% of the time I would..... But would the Miltek sound as good as the B&O?.... Probably :D With some patience, you'll do better, but for zero hassle trade type purchase I'd give £2750 for it, or £2900 if you get it dropped off in Harrogate. I suspect something like WBAC would be similar when they've finished inspecting every body panel with a fine tooth comb as they do.... |

A couple of things I forgot to mention in the original post:

Fixing the roof on my behalf holds no real extra value to me to be honest than the cost of the job and a couple of 10 quid taxi rides. Invaluable for someone else further away though no doubt. The price valuations are generally based on the statistics gathered of similar cars going through trade auctions. The problem is, that the S4 4.2 engines don't enjoy a great deal of reliability into 6 figure mileages, and they're getting quite rare now anyway so I doubt there will be any realistic valuations for one with 168K on it, making any valuation, basically nonsense. I suspect your best option is to Ebay it, with a low start and reserve price you can cope with. You'll end up with ~10% lower than its maybe worth listed on Autotrader, but at least you'll have a fair appraisal of its value from the bidders. |
I’m sure I know this car - was it owned by a chap in Surrey as 2nd owner who fitted exhaust? If it’s the one I think it is, it went back and forth to Epsom hospital round the south side of the M25 to rack up most of the miles with the original owner

Oh that is lovely, never driven one of these but I want it badly

The convertible has a low centre of gravity, so it handles shockingly well, combined with the V8 manual its a really fun car, especially with the roof down. Boot space is pretty good, quattro 4 wheel drive. Mine had Sat nav, bluetooth, cruise and heated seats which are all retrofittable. Split grill B6 looks a bit more dated than the big grill B7, but from inside the cabin you can't see that anyway. They suffer from a handful of issues. Engine timing chain failure is the big one. Rust and roof issues are common across all the A4 Cabriolets, and the wings are Cab specific, and not available as pattern parts, so not cheap to replace. But a lot of S4 cabs for sale will be suffering all or some of these issues. At least Pauls advert is honest. I imagine the RS4 Cab he's just got is quite something..... For contrast, the S5 cab isn't half as special. Sure its more modern, more toys, but the V8 makes this cab come alive. The 3.0Tfsi has some great cracks and pops with the DSG box, but its got no soul. Very clinical in contrast.... I'm going to shut up now, I seen to have diluted another car for sale thread.... ;) |

I posted up here a while ago about getting a cabby, I do have a thing for all the B6 & B7 models and I've always resisted driving a S4 cabby because I know I'd love it and reach for the credit card! Plus I've caught red leather disease from my D2! |

My commute has changed from a once a week 250 mile motorway round trip to a daily 10 mile B road twister. I'd love the S4, and the faults don't bother me hugely, but its got to be cheap enough to be worth going against the flow of all my other issues right now lol :-) Time and energy will get you a higher price, but not many other folks will take that S4 away no further questions asked with that mileage... ;) |

And now I don't have a working car and need some wheels!

Very tempted, to the level where I kind of wish one of my cars failed to give me reason to buy it.
As it was not you who changed to Milltek I suppose you do not have original exhaust to go with it? I am sure Milltek sounds lovely but I have a thing where I just hate how aftermarket exhaust tips stick out too far off the bumper straight and does not follow the shape of car/bumper. So for me if I was to buy it exhaust would need to be changed or at least the tips to be cut off and original/other tips to be welded on to follow the shape of car. |

I am not looking at RS4 options to free up some V8 goodness, the exhaust on the RS has switchable flaps but in all honest, doesn't sound as good as the S4 at present - which needs to be resolved! |
You are right. Having had a look at other cars on Autotrader they are all straight but smaller and tucked more into bumper so not sticking out, not like on S8 where they follow bumper line. Still I think OEM looks better but aftermarket could be made look good as well if it was sticking out less and preferably to follow bumper line.
Good luck with the sale, I cannot really justify it as both my cars are working ATM and you are a bit far away even if I am tempted. I did come very close to buying 3.0TDI A4 cab recently when my A6 had high pressure fuel pump issue but had to abandon it when I fixed my car. |

This Saturday just gone was the day for car swapping for me. Even that would have left me only 10 days to move the D3 on. Think someone will end up with a bargain there. Combo of high miles, and honesty about its faults paints a bleak picture (quite wrongly) against the other motors out there. If something was going to happen with that car for me now, it would have to be delivered, or cheaper still to cover a recovery guy I use in Bradford. |

Must be car swap month - maybe looking to move my D4 on shortly, I'm ready for my fit of the giggles with the PX offer later on this afternoon  |

Still happy to have it, delivered. Just want to pay a fair price for it, but like today really, not next Monday :-) I'll honour my original price of £2900, delivered some time this week, and paid with paypal. The offer is good until I go to bed tonight which will be early as I'm running on about 3 hours sleep today ;) |

But. The auction values of all the other dross out there, will bring the values down, so unless you trade it in with someone that actually has a brain and is going to retail it themselves, the value will be laughable I'm sure. |

Still on ebay, still a bargain, still not sure it will get to £2,900 - assuming you did get some sleep!? Have turned on notifications now!!!! |
I bid 2222.22 on the auction on the basis having it collected would cost 250 and I'll have to store it off road for now until I'll back of hols as timescale is too tight now.
I've been outbid. But not sad really. I think I overoffered originally which is echoed in the auction results. If you want to end the auction, deliver it to me and take 2500 on PayPal id do it. Or let it run and deal with the Muppet that doesn't turn up to collect it :-) Offer expires noon tomorrow as this S4 has taken more effort to purchase than cars 10 times its value and I need to move on. again. Lol. |

The auction moved slowly bids wise, but there are a lot of people watching, so assuming not all are voyeurs I’d not be surprised to see it pick up. If they don’t turn up, I can second chance offer, or will relist - by which time you will be back from hols +++ |
Sorry. To be way more clear:
It was descision by noon (done lol) Full Payment by me today Delivery any day/ time to suit you. I wasn't expecting father of new born to suddenly have a immediately spare Saturday morning !! |

Less than 4 hours to go now, over 3k and the current winning bidder wan’t to collect tonight!
Looks like you didn’t over bid Ian +++ Fingers crossed. |

Sold +++
(I have a sneaking suspicion to a forum member, which makes me happy!) |

Oh the irony - second chance offer now sent as the top bid was in error
|
Quote:
Runner up, now assumes winning bidder has seen it, its a pup, and doesn't want it, so will be reluctant to pay what he bid, not that he intended to pay full price in the first place ;) There's still a good number of punters to contact before you get down to my lowly bids though. +++ |
ok, update needed. Its been 2 days now, and this car sale has been more interesting than anything on telly..... +++

The buyer (original one) is collecting the car on Friday AM +++ |
Just to bring this on to a close - car now sold and collected!
I did throw one last curve ball, I went to check it over one last time last night - the battery was totally dead - that will teach me to take the CTEK off before a long auction  So the car was delivered with a new battery, care of EuroParts at 8am this morning +++ |
Result, I've had all the excitement of nearly buying a car, with none of the downsides of actually buying it.... ;)
