My S8 D2 no longer for sale

Here is the advert with a heavy heart its time to move on

https://www.pistonheads.com/classifi...--2001/8915467

Asking 7.5k may seem a tad high to some on here but alot of money gone into it

I am very OCD about my cars and like them to be perfect! wish me luck +++

edit - price drop

Conan_the_Librarian 1st August 2018 09:36 PM

Lovely S8. Well looked after. JKM were my Indie of choice when I was in Portsmouth.
Big bucks but there have been higher prices paid recently for that 'special' S8.

Sounds like a lot to me, and - though I've never seen it in the flesh - I wouldn't put it in my top 5 colour choices in terms of saleability, and (sadly...) the market isn't interested in what you've put in to it. However, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so I may be wrong.

GLWTS - how come you're selling?

RS6 1st August 2018 10:06 PM

Yeah the colour gets loads of postives everywhere i go which is nice

going back to another RS6 +++

Thanks guys!

Sad day James....you will miss her!:(

I personally love this colour and considering the work gone in to it and the condition, someone who’s on the look out for an S8 would do well with this as all the big jobs have been done already.

I’ve recently been looking at C5 RS6’s as I think it’s an itch I need to scratch, but they scare me even more than an 8 to own

If I had the space for this I’d be making plans with you. Best of luck pal...I’m hoping you will have second thoughts though and decided to keep her :D

Architex_mA8tey 2nd August 2018 08:07 AM

Good luck with the sale - as others have said the price is perhaps a tad optimistic especially at that mileage with no sorted gearbox as it's in the "zone" when the gearbox could fail - hopefully enough oil changes were done early and often enough to prevent that but I'd be looking to chip that price down towards future gearbox refurb costs if I was looking to buy one long term, otherwise its pretty faultless and in my view a nice unusual and attractive colour, and well looked after +++

moltuae 2nd August 2018 08:20 AM

Having seen it in the flesh recently at Beaulieu, I concur it's a lovely colour and a really well cared for car.

Sad to see you selling it James but I wish you luck with the sale and I hope you get what you're asking for it. Considering the rarity of these cars and the cost to maintain them, I think they're still very undervalued right now.

notorious 2nd August 2018 08:28 AM

I do remember this lovely car. Good luck with sale.

I’m not following the car market, but is there at least one example of old Audi model that appreciated in price and sells, say, for £50,000+ for a nice example?? Just curious.

MikkiJayne 2nd August 2018 04:43 PM

The original Audi Quattro Turbo can fetch well over 50K. This one sold for £72K last year

Adrian E 2nd August 2018 05:16 PM

Don’t even ask what the SWB Sport quattros fetch - although never a series production model

I think the uR is the daddy in terms of appreciation for the best examples - 2nd would probably be the B5 RS4 but it’s nowhere near £50k territory in the UK except for the odd garage queen that’s never been driven

Very much like the S8 the OP has - rare colour and looks stunning

ETA - the RS2 is probably second, as production numbers were pretty small to start with and many were scrapped as they were never cheap to run

barzya8 3rd August 2018 08:20 AM

Sorry to hear you are selling your pride and joy James :-(
Good luck with the sale though & I hope you get close to the asking price. +++
Great cars and great value, even at your asking price.
These cars are still undervalued. RSP @ £69,000 back in 2001

+1. It'd probably also help your case to give details on the "improvements" mentioned above. Like most of the others on here, I've yet to see this car, and a picture is worth a thousand words, as ever ;) .

I am selling my Audi S8 D2 4.2 V8 Quattro in rare Cedar green colour. The car is excellent condition for its age very clean and tidy always turns heads and receives positive comments where ever i go.

The car has been my pride and joy throughout ownership and has never missed a beat it is washed and waxed weekly, only run on Shell V-POWER and is my weekend car.

It took me a while to find an S8 D2 in this condition with the right specification after looking at a few bad examples this one came up and i fell in love with it, i have always wanted an S8 D2 after my favourite film Ronin.
The car has been extensively maintained by JKM Performance in Portsmouth (VAG specialist) throughout my ownership. I handed the car over to them on purchasing it with 100k miles with a list of future proofing jobs so i could just enjoy it without having to worry about things going wrong, all of the big jobs have been taken care of and they gave the car a clean bill of health - total bill £4.88615

Interior Trim
Carbon Fibre High Gloss Wrap from Monster Wraps on all interior trim pieces, Fitted by JKM Performance, i have still have the original wood trim pieces if preferred can include with sale.

Everything works as it should, Car has full BOSE entertainment system x5 disc CD changer, Sat NAV, rear blinds, alcantara head lining and upper and lower on door cards, double glazing Memory seats don’t think its missing any optional extras, Sun Roof.

No VAGCOM faults shown with engine and gearbox modules can show this with laptop.

Bad points to consider. As with all cars, there are some very minor marks on the exterior rear bumper, very tiny mark on passenger wing.
The rear seat base has a very, very small hole in it and there is some discolouration on some interior panels but none of the above detract from the beauty of this rare modern classic.

I am the 6th owner, the previous owner was a mechanic and had his own MOT centre and looked after the car very well.

5.5k wanted no offers

Why would it make sense for the thread to be deleted? Regardless of whether you're still selling it or not, there is information on here (spec details, price guidance, etc...) which is potentially useful to forum members who may be interested in similar models?

AFAIK, there's nothing "confidential" in this thread, and surely it's a principle of a good forum - which this is - about openly sharing information, unless confidential, for the benefit of all forum members?

MikkiJayne 15th March 2019 05:35 PM

Plus we can all say 'yay' cos you're keeping it +++

If you edit the first post in advanced mode you can change the thread title yourself. Maybe 'My S8 D2 no longer for sale' :)

I was curious about this so tried changing the title of one of the threads I had started, to show it had been resolved, so I edited the first post in Advanced mode and changed the title to include the word RESOLVED at the start. Saved the changes, but it only seems to change the title within the first post, and not the overall title of the thread. Pity.

RS6 - As MJ says, it gives us the opportunity of saying we're glad you kept it.

Steamship - Yes i have noticed this also the change doesn't correct the original title for some reason probably due to the date of posting, thanks! im glad to be keeping her +++
