Wheels opinions please
|
I like those +++
|
Ok, you did ask Roberto...
1. They're not OEM (boring, I know...) 2. They're Mercedes :tuttut: 3. They'd fill the arches nicely (I'm trying to be positive...) 4. You'd need a darker finish (assuming you're fitting them on your "usual" body colour ;) ) 5. They're better than the green hoodie  PS: what's going on with the camera lens? watching it made me feel hungover (which I'm not...:) ) Other opinions are available... |
tintin you should be hungover its Saturday
i know i am.. keep comments coming please i think i might buy some as i really like them this is where i got the black grill idea from , so i painted my S8 grill black and added a quattro badge instead of the dredded S8 one which ive been told off for 1000+ times |

As for the wheels, something different and decent looking... so long as you remove the Merc badges in the middle. Just think of the stick you'd get for those. :) |
I usually think the correct wheels look best with only a few exceptions. But, these do look good.
|
I like them, I think if they had Audi centre caps only the initiated would ever know!
|
Yes from me
I'll come straight out and say that the D3 is not the platform of choice for JQ but I really do like those wheels and it does suit the car extremely well. Usual caveats apply, i.e. different centre caps are a must. Rather amusingly, the chap in the video has a similar pair of trainers to the ones I'm currently wearing so it must be an omen. Mine are a tasteful grey I hasten to add and not green...
Thumbs-up from Johnny. |
Was looking at those wheels long time ago, they are from the GL series.
|
turns out there are 2 versions of the same wheel
8.5J 9.5J i suppose the 9.5J goes on the rear not easy to find these |

I like them.
Nice mix of elegance and agressiveness. Suits the A8 nicely. |
Right..i dont think i can use spacers on these
oh dear Mercedes use longer bolts like 50mm of thread so i will need 70mm of thread to fit spacers and im not sure i want to do that
they fit the A8 perfect too.. For Sale ??? maybe not sure yet http://i64.tinypic.com/2qalieg.jpg http://i68.tinypic.com/ngui9u.jpg http://i68.tinypic.com/2059q9c.jpg http://i67.tinypic.com/344sfv7.jpg http://i63.tinypic.com/2gue9ac.jpg |

Use these instead then
http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1550749851 I think the thinnest they have is 20mm though. Do you need spacers for them to clear the suspension or are they just for visual effect? |
just visual
but ive looked at them and the small bolts that go into the original hub only pull on a very thin lip on the spacer and i dont like that looks like a weak point |
Well my wheels haven't fallen off yet  I've run a set of these on my daily driver for about 10 years, and I also have a set of adapters in the same design to run the Q7 20s on my S8.
The wheel bolt threads in to a steel insert which is pressed in to the alloy spacer from behind. The insert is as thick as the car's hub so no less strong +++ |
14mm x 70mm...
No problem! The load on wheel bolts is in tension. Provided they are torqued correctly there is no shear load, and almost no bending moment. All shear load is born by friction on the mounting surfaces, even during acceleration and braking. A 14mm x 50mm bolt will not have any significant increase in twist (along the shaft) compared with a 14mm x 70mm bolt either, and the tensile load they can withstand is equal. If you're using hub centric spacers, they will centre the wheel on the hub properly making sure the bolts align. |
trouble is i cant find any 70mm ones anywer
|
Are the Merc wheels taper or radius seat? There are four listings for M14x1.5 x 70 with taper seats on ebay.
|
I've used this guy before for wheel nuts and bolts - very knowledgable
http://www.speedshack.co.uk/Wheelnuts.htm +++ |
merc are radius bolts but different to Audi
speedshack longest 64mm NO stock special order no problem if not using spacers straight on with the merc standard bolts |
this is how it looks at the moment
perfect setup right now and the odd 5mm makes a big difference in looks
