Wigan Micro Meet

1 Attachment(s)
Sunday was all quiet in the Armstrong abode when we heard a large vehicle passing and turning at the end of our cul-de-sac.
We all rushed to the window because we are very rarely treated to a HGV on a Sunday. No truck to be seen but . . . . . dah dah!!!!

A S8 pulled up in front of the house.

Was this the noisome beast? YES it was.

Mark (Moltuae) and his good lady had popped by for a visit.

A cuppa, then outside to a load of car bollards and a photo.

The items that matter, left to right
  1. Craig's D3 4.2 TDI
  2. Craig
  3. Lynn
  4. Mark
  5. My D3 3.0 TDI
  6. Mark's D2 S8.
We will have to organise a real North West Mini Meet, not done anything for a couple of years, we are overdue.

I hope my rather loud exhaust didn't annoy any of your neighbours Ray.

I must get it modified to make it quieter .... someday :snigger:

Thanks for the cuppa. It was great to see you and Craig again.

Something I've just found ....

SUNDAY 12 MAY 2019
FESTIVAL OF 1000 CLASSIC CARS

Cholmondeley Castle, Nr Malpas, Cheshire, SY14 8AH

http://www.classicshows.org/festival...n-12-may-2019/

Sounds a lot like the Belvoir Castle event. Similar prices and rules, in that you can exhibit any car that is 15 years or older:

Quote:

We offer a heavily discounted admission ticket for car exhibitors who book in advance of the event. For a cost of just £4.50, the car exhibitor ticket allows entry for:

– one classic car (aged 2004 / pre-2004) or a car in one of the following themes: American / kit / custom / replica car
Anyone fancy it? :)

Good spot, I do, but I can't sadly, as I'll be in Iberia then :(

moltuae 27th March 2019 04:05 PM

Ah, that's a shame.

If we don't manage to arrange something before the annual meet, the same car show is on again in September apparently:

http://www.classicshows.org/festival...eptember-2019/

I might still go to the May 12th event ... if anyone else can make it?

tc4332 27th March 2019 07:32 PM

Sorry Boys, I can't make the 12th. I'm on parade at The Arboretum.

If you thirst for a cuppa, how about a Kings Bromley mini meet?

BTW noisome
/ˈnɔɪs(ə)m/Submit

having an extremely offensive smell.
"noisome vapours from the smouldering waste"

I think you employed an interesting description for Marks 8

Funnily enough there is an occasional foul smell of burning oil (from the crankcase breather, I think), but I didn't think it was that noticeable!

I wonder if we should just pick our northern mini-meet location mathematically? ...
  1. Join together each attendee's location on a map to form a polygon.
  2. Calculate the centroid of the polygon.
  3. Meet up at said centroid.

Granted, we could end up in an Asda car park in Crewe, so we might need to tweak the final result a little.

I was planning on phoning you to arrange something but you have pre-empted me, thanks.
I'll see you on 12th May at yours after the service.

Rather technical planning there Mark.
I'll try and attend to anything arranged.

DailyMike 4th April 2019 07:27 PM

If I head over from Beverley....it would move the "point of balance" much further East on that geometric basis! Seriously though, I'd be happy to head over your "neck of the woods"...lived much of my life in Sale and environs, so I'd visit friends and family too....

tc4332 4th April 2019 10:25 PM

aagain my apologies for not thinking about you.

DailyMike 6th April 2019 10:13 AM

No apology necessary, Ray!

Have wheels...can travel...and I DO...regularly!

Mike.

roberto 8th April 2019 06:30 PM

im interested too

moltuae 8th April 2019 07:01 PM

Where abouts are you based Roberto?

In the absence of any sooner or more suitable venues, I wonder if we should start making plans to meet up at the September event of the 'Festival of 1000 Classic Cars' at Cholmondeley Castle. Who's up for it?

http://www.classicshows.org/festival...eptember-2019/

Any cars older than 15 years can exhibit, for which the entry fee is reduced to £4.50. However, if we can arrange in advance to exhibit as a club, apparently we're allowed to exhibit some newer cars too:

Quote:

Clubs are welcome to book a club pitch to display together as a club.

– up to two adults and two children (aged up to 14).

Any additional passengers will be charged at the full admission price.

To protect the integrity of the event, we aim to control the number of exhibiting vehicles which are newer that 2004. We appreciate that some clubs have members with newer vehicles so if you are a club and more than 25% of the club comprises of vehicles aged newer than 2004, whilst you are still able to exhibit under the discounted £4.50, we ask that you make your booking by phoning the office on 01484 667776 or emailing info@classicshows.org to avoid any unnecessary delays.

Passes are issued subject to exhibitors arriving at the event by 11.00am.

Put me down for a YES, Mark.
I've put it in my diary

roberto 9th April 2019 07:31 AM

i live in chesterfield..ive got an idea thou

i was thinking some people might live 10 miles from a meet and some 100 miles.
maybe make up a few meets to be honest
so.
1.make a list of interested people for a meet
2.get everybody's location
3.plan a central location from that info
4.make a date, Sundays are usually good

i dont mind doing that

or

how far away are you from say York or Leeds or even Wigan !

This is a great place also to meet and very friendly..

Yorkshire Air Museum & Allied Air Forces Memorial
Halifax Way, Elvington, York YO41 4AU

infact i had a daft idea a while ago called

:The Aluminum Audi Meet:

then we could invite the A2 owners club

+++

That's kind of what I suggested earlier, although I was being a little facetious to be honest :) ...

Thinking about it further, I think that plan has a catch-22 though: The choice of venue location depends on who is interested in attending, BUT, interest will probably depend a lot on the location we choose.

Sounds like a good idea +++ York is only about 1 and a half hours away for me, so I'm up for it, depending on the date.

We've got a few summer months ahead of us now so I think we should try to arrange a couple of northern mini-meets at least. Cholmondeley Castle isn't until September so maybe we could do that one and fit in a meet at the Yorkshire Air Museum too.

I'm thinking the best way to start would be to gauge interest in this thread first ... Pick a date that's good for a few of us, then start a new thread for each meet to recruit more attendees.

HPsauce 9th April 2019 09:14 AM

You need to add in a couple of other factors too:
- Willingness/motivation to drive a distance to a meet
- Enjoyment to be had on the roads getting there

Very true.

Can we interest you in a northern-ish meet then Andrew? :D

HPsauce 9th April 2019 10:10 AM

Too much boring busy motorway from here for a day trip I'm afraid, sorry!

Places like The Leopard near Leamington are reasonable for me as the M40 is tolerable at times and there are reasonable country diversions.

roberto 9th April 2019 10:41 AM

well ive got a Big yard at mine 2 mins from J30 M1
will take 10 A8's
lol
and my sandwiches are awesome !

I can vouch for the sandwiches and he makes a good cuppa. Plenty of space for a few of us so I'm sold.

Especially if Roberto washes my car whilst I drink his tea.:D

You're quite close the the Peak District there. If we do choose to head over that way we could maybe include a local attraction such as The Carding Shed or Crich Tramway Village.

Now that's talking, Mark.
Especially the Crich idea, that's me down to a TTTTTTram.
Don't you dare choose a date that I can't make.

Norretal 9th April 2019 11:12 PM

I'd be up for it, always looking for a decent ride out in the 8, and it'd be great to see Rob again and meet other forum members +++

lovely but..

Holmfirth is another 45 miles north west from me..
Crich would be 35 miles south..The tram museum is not cheap to get in either..
not a problem but
both places would be a parking nightmare.
and a lot of very thin roads.
parking for 1 A8 if you were alone yes.
all depends on the amount of cars really let me have a think???
also we have to consider where people are travelling from.

Yorkshire Air Museum is a great visit i could try and get a discount and special parking there too..

Architex_mA8tey 12th April 2019 08:46 AM

I'm out if its as far up as York, would happily drive to Robs or Crich though +++

tc4332 12th April 2019 10:10 PM

This could be growing into a Half National Meet

moltuae 13th April 2019 08:43 AM

Looking at my diary, late June or July/August would be better for me. With the annual meet in about 7 weeks now, I'm running out of time to get the car ready for that, and it needs to go into the garage for some work (and an MOT) yet. :-(
