A8Freunde meet 2010- Germany
Guys,
Dates 13.08.2010 - 15.08.2010 Location Edersee bei Kassel Plans are under way for this. Here is an English translation of a German language post done for me by ChrisS8. Those wanting to go post below: A8_Tony A8_Tony Junior CtL Darrenjoe90 + Better Half AVPerformance Refro |
Can't go - will be on holiday then:(
|
you dont need to ask mike. i will be there.+++
|
Will be giving this one some serious consideration, what are the likely costs? I also want to take a trip to New York/California around the same time...
|
Costs last year for me:
Return ferry trip approx £48 Fuel (LPG mostly) £200 (1000 Mile round trip + touring) Accommodation (2 nights shared room) + food and all drinks £230 So say £500 for the weekend which included a trip to the Ring |
A8_Tony
CtL Darrenjoe90 AVPerformance - Put me down Mike! I may not have an A8 (yet) but as we said, one way or another I would love to come!! +++ p.s, my ears are still ringing!! |
the cost for me was slightly more than mike mainly because i was running on petrol all the way and not lpg. also i had a longer distance to drive in the uk. my ferry cost was more because i booked very late before departure.
this year i plan to book as early as possible for the ferry and hotel just so i dont miss out. i also plan on staying an extra few days this time and also plan in advance a trip around the nurburgring probably on the return trip. the weekend last year was just amazing and not not to be missed. if anybody is thinking of coming then i can tell you that you will not be disapointed. what a fantastic weekend we had last year +++ |
I'm estimating £400 fuel, 1170 to Edersee and back, £50 ferry, £230 food and accommodation, a friend really wants to go so I can split some costs with him. Not sure I will stay the full three days either, might go exploring. Is there anything near Erdesee that's worth seeing or en route from England? noticed its quite far from Ingolstadt and the museum mobile. :(
|
Nurbergring?
|
It is now looking very likely I am coming, so please put me on the list. Will I have a problem getting onto the ferry? As I am about to slam my car on its ass courtesy of KW coilovers +++
|
you will be ok amar. if mike and tony were in one car and they made it on +++also mike had his car cleaning gear in the boot. now that was on its arse
|
also we now have the dvd from the 2009 meet. its very well done. if you want to see it then call to bens(avp) on friday night or saturday during the day as i will be there with the dvd.
|
I'm ready to book this now, what ferry are you guys taking? I want to be on the same one...
|
I was having a look at prices and these are some options (both return):
Ramsgate - Ostend = £56 Dover - Calais = £80 I reckon we should take Ramsgate to Ostend as although the ferry journey will be three hours longer this is the difference in distance to Erdersee from Ostend vs Calais: 319 mi = Ostend - Edersee 373 mi = Calais - Edersee IIRC Ramsgate is a little nearer then Dover to, for me at least. Watchya reckon? Link here. http://book.ferrysavers.co.uk/farese...20100305011303 |
tony is trying to sort some deals with p&o but he needs to know how many are coming and where is the best place to sail from first. he has it in hand +++
|
I will be coming down from Edinburgh. Easy on where and when. Will fall in with the others. :D
|
FAO: Tony
Tony, can you let us know what is going on with the Ferry please? I wanted to pay for the hotel now, but Chris said we have to pay when we get there so I want to book/pay for the Ferry soon as to 'set in stone' I am coming, because I can see myself getting sidetracked and not coming if something else crops up or someone asks me to go somewhere else. At least this way I will be 'committed' and can say I've already booked something, so can we please book soon please? Would we really get a big discount for 4/5 8s from P&O and £50 is cheap enough anyway... Please reply soon.
Also, would be interested to know who's bringing their cars for the convoy? +++ |
Hi Amar,
Sorry for the delay in replying. I'm waiting for P&O to get back to me. I know that we are looking to have a number of cars going over, and they are perhaps a little reluctant to commit to a discount, unless we can give them numbers. For the trip from Calais, it's not too bad, it's those of us travelling from Hull who are likely to benefit most from any discount (currently the price appears to be £400, a £90 increase over last year) So maybe you should book anyway? I'll chase P&O tomorrow, and see if I get a speedier response. +++ |
Ahh, I see. I didn't realise some were sailing out of Hull. So I'm assuming that Darren/Tony will be going out of Hull and possibly Mike as well seeing as he will be in Scotland. So, does this mean that me and Ben should book together and meet you guys somewhere in France for the convoy down? +++
|
I think Ben is going from Hull as well....but will await his confirmation :D
Just started a new thread, to get numbers from both ports :D |
Bump - Final details soon.

Travel Plans
Right. Things are finalising out and here is what I think is the best plan for travel etc.
I know Tony and Darren have booked a room as have Amar and his buddy. I have asked for a room to be booked for me and Ben (AVP). Cars coming look like Tony, Darren, Amar, My S8 and project AnA driven by Ben (so he can fix it when it breaks down!). Looking at sailings and so on I recommend we all get on an early Ferry from Dover to Calais which will cost us about £70 to £80. If we all want to go for priority boarding again that would be quite cool. and will cost £12 extra each way. If we catch the 0730 ferry, those travelling from oooop north can stay in the Holiday Inn and those travelling from nearer can meet at the ferry. If you are all happy with this plan I will see if I can get any ferry discounts. I will be booking if I get no feedback in the next couple of weeks to get the good prices anyway. CtL |
Very Jealous as I'm sure it will be excellent again but cant make it guys.
would be nice if a few A8 Freunde members get their Cars over to our meet too for everyone to see/meet - do we know if any are coming or not? |
I work Mon - Friday and won't be able to get up to Dover until 11/12AM. So I will have to do some non stop driving and meet you lot there. I could ask work for the day off but I will only have been there for 2 months so not sure that would be that good an idea?
|
Big big biiiiiiiig bump
THE BIGGEST OF BUMPS
Come on guys!!! last orders please.+++ |
BIG BIG Bump
You thouight you enjoyued the 2010 A8oc? Well now you need to come to Germany to see what the 2011 A8oc annual meet will be like!!!!!!!
Darrenjoe90 and I are booking onto the 0555 ferry from Dover on 13 July. We will be staying in Dover overnight on the Thursday to get the early start. YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO GO. Car share if cost is an issue. Be there or be ready to listen to tells that beggar belief!!!!! |
I would if I had a D2! Tony has kindly offered to car share but I want to drive down my own car as that was part of the fun, and I would rather walk then drive the BMW all the way to Germany. Although with a range of 750 miles I could go, come back and then drive to work a few times and not have to fill up! Anyway I am going on holiday to New York instead and plan to come to next years one. I will defiantly be in a D2 next year +++
Have a good one and take plenty of pictures. |
It's a shame Amar, as even though I shared with Darren last year, I had a BLAST!!!
Honestly mate, although driving is a part of the fun, just being around all the glorious '8 metal is worth it. The offer is still there, and open to anyone who wants to go, but is concerned about the cost. Hey, we could have 2 or 3 in the car, and bring them down even further :) +++ |
Both Darren and I have booked onto the 0555 ferry on 13 Aug Dover to calais. We are going to stay in Dover Thu night and I am trying to sort some cheap rooms at a ramada or such like.
Both of us are coming back on the Tuesday morning 0835 and will probably stay in a local hotel in Calais the night before. :) CtL |
Someone must be interested in car sharing? :)
C'mon guys, this meet is quite simply AWESOME, get yourselves there, even if you don't want to drive all the way. +++ |

For those interested I've calculated estimated costs:
Mileage 1442 Avg MPG 20 Cost/litre £1.30 Cost/gallon £5.90 Gallons Req'd 72.1 Fuel cost £425.53 Hotel - UK 60 Hotel - DE 300 Including food/drink Ferry 80 Total £865.53 These are estimated costs and may be more/less depending on individual circumstances +++ |
Reffro, I cancelled my room with Chris not long ago so lets hope he hasn't called the hotel and cancelled it yet, ask him if you can have my room if so.
Also, to make myself feel better about having a BMW. I just worked out it would only cost me under £120 vs Tony's £425.53 in fuel to get there and back if I were going. (No one spoil this for me and say anything negative, trying to make myself feel better) +++ |

The cost of the trip to me is not an issue. i dont have much money but from remembering the trip from last year there is no way i am going to miss this one. i remember coming home last year from the meet and still havin the biggest smile i have ever had even a week later. we did just what these cars were made for, we drove in comfort and safety at over twice our legal speed limit, we cruised around the beautifull countryside in a convoy that was over a mile and a half long of audi a8's and s8's and people were getting out of there cars to watch us drive by. all the people we met were so friendly and the place we stayed was just amazing.
Anybody that misses this years german meet will probably never get the chance to enjoy themselfs like we will. its just a fantastic weekend allround. so come on everybody get your passports ready, get your tank filled with v-power and let us show you how much of an amazing car we have +++ |
