Menu knob production version

This is the final design, printed in Protopasta matte fibre PLA which gives quite a nice 'almost injection moulded' surface. The only flaw is the top surface where the layered nature of FDM printing is evident in the gentle curve. It's a tight push fit on to the spindle.

So many broken knobs. I've not had a problem with mine (yet). Is it an age thing?
Looking at the 3D printed versions, I wonder if dipping them in Plasti-Dip might be a quick way to improve the finish and give them a more rubberised, tactile feel? I suspect it might be necessary to print them slightly undersized however, to allow for the paint thickness. |
Tis in!

These were posted last night so you should all see them in the next few days :)
A couple of comments: Have a good look at the knob before you fit it. If you're not 100% happy using it, don't fit it! Once it's on, it won't come off. To fit it, just push it on to the spindle until it stops. It should be just recessed in to the housing. It should be a tight push-fit and should not require any glue. Honest feedback is requested please. If you like it, great. If you don't like it, why not? Finally, please let me know what you think a reasonable price is for this, by pm if you prefer. Thanks +++ |

D2 doctor to the rescue!
Thank you, MJ. I'll PM you. By the way, did you finish setting up your e-store? Now I'm reading through the glove box lights thread and thinking of picking up a couple. I'm with the others...I'll have glove box lights, grommets, brake booster block....we need some +10HP "MJ engineering" stickers +++. Or perhaps "updated by D2 Doctor" ;) |
