No Hairdresser Jokes Please!

Bought this in Glasgow on Tuesday and drove it home through terrible weather. It has a few niggles, but nothing that put me off, and I haggled enough of a discount to fix it.

I've been looking for a while (and first colour choice was Meteor Grey) and this is the best specced TTS that I'd seen.

The photos are from the ad; more to follow when I've cleaned her up and fixed some of the niggles.

And just in case you're wondering, it's in addition to the S8!

Nice, and good looking spec too..... The TT's are a right load of fun to whizz round in, a bit underrated to be honest.... I've had 2, and enjoyed them both..

moltuae 9th January 2020 04:55 PM

Nice one Jim. I like it +++ +++ +++

I don't think it looks too 'hairdresser' ..... but if you don't want to be mistaken for one you might wanna change that reg plate!

gninnam 9th January 2020 05:44 PM

Nice one Jim +++

I'm glad someone else made that connection as well.

Nice sporty looking car Jim, especially in red.

tonupkid 9th January 2020 06:16 PM

That's a pretty car Jim and I particularly love that colour on it.
I hadn't made the connection with the number plate, but now, Ha ha hahaha

Enjoy the new car OP

roberto 9th January 2020 08:29 PM

a friend of mine has one like this and its a bit niggly too
i was fancying it for a track car
what sort of price did u pay? pm me if you like
ta

The_Laird 9th January 2020 08:50 PM

The price is no secret as it was widely advertised at just under £8K and I paid £7,230.

And I was looking at the DVLA number plate site before I even bought it!

Spanker 9th January 2020 08:51 PM

My favourite brand, my favourite colour and my favourite wheels.
Lovely car Jim!

I'd travel to Glasgow too for that +++

spannerrash 9th January 2020 09:15 PM

I'm not really a fan of the TT but the colour and the wheels do make that one look really nice.

I'll open myself up to ridicule here and say that she is screaming out for a boot spoiler!

Did I tell you that I was 53 going on 17?

Frank

PsYcHe 9th January 2020 10:01 PM

Nice car... I like those, but still fancy a Mk1 TT

Norretal 10th January 2020 03:54 AM

Congratulations Jim, that looks lovely, it really stands out +++

I wasn't a fan of the TT until SWMBO got herself a TT roadster last March. It's only a 2.0 TDi but what a lot of fun to drive, and 50MPG+, what's that all about?

As for the boot spoiler comment, you're better off without one. The factory fitted one on this TT has been nowt but trouble :tuttut:

Agreed +++

I love TTs - Lucy has one and it's like driving a well fitting shoe :D Its as quick as an S8 in a straight line but would leave it for dead in the twisty bits. But, drive it for more than an hour and you wish you'd picked the 8. Lucy's is a 225 version with the small duck-tail spoiler and that just finishes off the back of the car nicely. The TTRS spoiler is a little too shouty.

Funnily enough, when we were looking for that car, every single one we found was owned by a very blokey bloke. Not a coiffeur in sight :p

From Scottish Motor Services Woodlands Road? They always use that location in the west end for their pictures

Daughter's had her TT for 4 or 5 years now and apart from a couple of small faults it works...

It has an electronic spoiler. Comes up above a certain speed or when you push a button inside the car. I’ll get a photo later.

And I’m 65 and two-thirds, going on 17!

Yes, that’s the place!

Congratulations Jim, how does it compare to the one you were drooling over at AITP? :D

It’s a TTS, so, IMHO, nicer interior and quicker. And it has at least as many toys as the one at AIIT!

I drove it back from Glasgow - 5 hours none stop - and, despite my shoulder still not being 100% after the op, it was comfortable enough. It’s not an ‘8, of course, and the refinement and comfort is nowhere near, but I bought this for fun and I’m keeping the S8, so the best of both worlds! We now have a diesel Mini estate/clubman for trips when economy is important (50-60mpg whatever the conditions) the TTS for fun (and a bit of economy at something over 30mpg) and the S8 for style, fun and comfort (I’ll not mention the ‘economy’!).

MikkiJayne 10th January 2020 11:52 AM

The newer one is clearly a fair bit more refined than the mk1 then :)

madcjd 10th January 2020 01:47 PM

Gorgeous looking car.................I love those wheels!

tintin 10th January 2020 01:54 PM

Lovely car, and that colour really suits it: and works well with the colour mix in the interior.

I know you've been looking for a while, and were looking for the grey exterior, but I think you'll grow to be glad that you chose the red - I still partly regret choosing grey over red for my MS :-( - and I can't imagine Christine objected to this colour, did she?

Oh, and I was walking down the steps in that 1st photo a week ago - weird or what? ;)

spannerrash 10th January 2020 02:15 PM

Wow, there's a car out there that has a spoiler when you want and then doesn't when you don't? I really need to make an effort to keep up with modern technology.

Anyway, I've just upgraded from an Amstrad 464+ to a Commador 128 so that I'll show ya'll.

Adrian E 10th January 2020 06:03 PM

Lovely looking car - one of our neighbours has a gorgeous orange TTS - colour really suits it - makes a lovely burble as it heads out of the street (usually with a sodding great big Husky in the back 😂)

I think that still looks good! :p

One of my all time favourite cars +++ Such good fun on the twisty bits.

Sadly, mine makes a better garden ornament than mode of transport. One day I might restore it. Or stick a V8 in it. Or I might just leave it in the driveway and look at it :o
