Hi all,
Just a little update on my s8 d3 that I bought in november last year as my birthday present:D::ROFL:
Can say with no doubt car is fantastic but I didnt have good start with it:(
few issues came up so I got to get it to garage with blown flexi pipes and meanitime s8 develop another fault (power steering leak, hose from steering rack) which put my car of the road for about month as it was christmas time:-(
When I finally got it to garage decided to few other things in one go
oil and air filters
cv boot as it was split and trowing all grease out:(
fix exhaust
replace steering rack pipe
fix broken air filter pipe
investigate sloppy steering
checking all suspension for worn bushes/joints
After all this I give her new(correct d3 multispoke 9j wide) shoes which I have from member of our forum tc4332. Massive thank you Ray!
Got wheels fully refurbed in dark shadow chrome and 2 new pirellis went on to match other pair
Then 4 wheel alignment done to absolutely transform car driveability...wow! what a result!
Big thanks to Neil too which help me to get trough all this and point me to right direction and right people:cheers:
Still having few issues so car is booked for tomorrow in garage for fuel smell in cabin(intermittent, appears after hard acceleration) screenwash leak and some exhaust adjustment as its makes whistling noise:angry3:
Im trying to make It as best as possible to enjoy driving it and hopefully take it to annual meet in scotland lol
Im adding few pics of her for U guys to look and feel free to comment and give me any suggestions

Hi Arek
I'm not normally a fan of dark wheels, but those look so good against your white paintwork. Gorgeous+++

Norretal 16th February 2020 05:21 PM

You own my dream car Arek, I've always admired that S8

So glad you're getting it sorted bit by bit, they're an expensive beast but the enjoyment from driving them makes it worthwhile. Those wheels in that colour really suit it. I had FE wheels on mine for a while and thought they looked great.

Looking forward to updates +++

The wheels look rather nice, can I have them back?

Only kidding.

Disappointing to hear you've had so many problems with the car since buying it. I remember you told me about the exhaust blowing on the way to Dublin (probably the car getting excited about being fed Shell V-Power) and reading on FB about the power steering hose, but surprised about the others considering the MOT was towards the end of August.

The fuel smell was one I could never locate. You also mention the screen wash leak. Can't be certain, but get the mechanic to check the pipes connected to the headlight washer jets, as I had the bumper off when doing the ACC retrofit. From memory, I think they were held on by a small green plastic clip, so maybe I didn't push it on far enough.

These are crap and leak very easily if disturbed so you could be right.

Very nice car, have you got spacers on the rear wheels or any of the wheels for that matter?

What's the offset of the wheels?

poorman'sA8 17th February 2020 06:03 PM

thank you sir for your opinion, I will have another set of wheels in silver( 5 double spoke Y shape 20'') These are the best wheels in my opinion for d3 s8

Thanks for your message Sean, hopefully most of issues has been fixed and looks like annoying fuel smell is cured now too:D been a hard time for me when it all happen in one go but Neil recommended me a good mechanic who fixed all with big smile on his face and for a very reasonable money being only 5 miles away from me...how lucky I am :ROFL::ROFL:

That's where the fuel leak was

Glad you got it sorted. Was it just not tightened? Wondering if it happened as a result of the intake manifold being replaced.

I see thanks. What I noticed was that these alloys seems to stick out a little beyond the arches, or at the very least sit flush with the arches.

Personal taste of course but I prefer the look of these alloys on the A8 without spacers, I think the arch should sit more 'proud' than the alloy.

Any-who - glad you're making progress on getting the car sorted though+++

What was the cause of exhaust leak? Was it the flexi pipe?

One of the flexi pipes blew while he was driving down to Dublin for the ferry. I reckon it was because I ran the car on 95 octane (not prepared to do a 70 mile round trip just to get 99 octane) and it was getting excited that it would be finally filled up from then on with Shell V-Power.

There's always something to keep you busy with an A8/S8  - I do miss having one sometimes :(
