looking into larger rear discs im finding several sizes are available.
looks like 335mm are the biggest !
so i need to know the following please

can i use the same caliper ?
i know i have to buy the apropriate caliper carriers too
cheers all

MikkiJayne 24th April 2020 10:31 AM

Yes, the caliper is the same from 280-335mm. Just the carrier changes.

Will not recommend to increase the size in the rear if you are not doing the same in the front, or else you will upset the brake bias.

Oh ok, then I highly recommend to mount the same in the rear, because now you've already upset the brake bias. I did the S8/W12 brakes on mine a few years ago and did the fronts first and the rear the day after. In between I had a test drive and the balance of the brakes was horrible! The car nose dived heavily under braking and if I used brakes in corners, it under-steered a lot. After finishing both the front and the rear, the brake balance is perfect.

Tip, also change to S8 anti sway bars. :)

part numbers

can anyone confirm these part numbers for a pair of 335mm rear caliper carriers for the D3

3D0 615 426 D
3DO 615 425 D

left & right

thanks

NightOwl 25th April 2020 07:40 AM

The numbers you have is for the dust shield, that you need to replace too. The old ones won't fit with the bigger disc.

For the carriers:
Left: 4E0615375D (Wrong number)
Right: 4E0615376D (Wrong number)
New ones below.

Ops, my number over is wrong!

New numbers for the carriers:
Left: 4E0615425A
Right: 4E0615426A

Look at attached pic.

Ok, now I see the confusion. The 3D0615426D + 3D0615425D is for the W12 and 4E0615425A + 4E0615426A is for the S8. The last ones maybe painted black? Anyway both will fit with the 335mm disc.

PS, and you need new dust shields to clear the bigger discs.

roberto 25th April 2020 09:34 AM

cheers !

i need caliper carriers but there £300 ish for a pair new

NightOwl 25th April 2020 10:02 AM

I bought them used, found a receipt say 30£ for one carrier in email history.

Autodoc have them in stock according to their website. The W12 ones as mentioned by NightOwl above are £44.12 each and are TRW branded. The S8 ones are £89.39 each and are also TRW branded.

roberto 11th May 2020 11:46 AM

ordered 335mm rear discs and pads in Brembo
and caliper carriers, cant wait,
my old 280mm rear discs and pads are in very good condition
genuine Audi discs and Pagid pads for sale if your feeling a bit skint

ivanhoe 12th May 2020 11:05 PM

Be sure to double check your order if using Autodoc ........they have a habit of substituting brands....... In particular their own brands without informing you. They did this on me on a couple of orders, I checked my order straight away after placing and they had immediately changed the brands, they are pushing their own brands. I flipped my lid with them. They know after people have waited a week for items to arrive that they won't return the substituted parts....... Be warned.

roberto 13th May 2020 02:17 PM

hi ivanhoe

yes ive ordered from them so see what happens i paid paypal so i might be covered if any issues..
thanks
for the headsup..

ivanhoe 13th May 2020 04:01 PM

Did you set up an account?
They literally changed my order immediately after I placed it, I went back to their site immediately after making payment and they had already substituted the brands, I checked my recent orders.
They did this on two separate occasions. I had to go on web chat to sort it..... They give you spiel about their brand having 3year warranty blah blah blah.
I hope they have now realised that it's bad business practise .

roberto 14th May 2020 11:15 AM

Yes i set up an account

my order is showing as picked and on its way to GLS destination parcel centre and still shows all correct items i ordered so far
fingers xxxxxxxx,d

ivanhoe 14th May 2020 03:13 PM

Should be all good then.
Maybe they have seen the error of their ways now.

I know my experience wasn't an isolated incident because I googled it and it had been happening a lot.

roberto 15th May 2020 01:37 PM

its like waiting for xmas

The parcel is en route to the destination parcel center.

roberto 22nd May 2020 05:33 PM

recieved

Pads are wrong= they are for a Toyota Auris

:mad::mad::mad:

NightOwl 22nd May 2020 06:46 PM

Pads are the same for all rear disc sizes, so if you're old ones are not too bad, you can use them.

roberto 22nd May 2020 06:49 PM

bought the proper ones from eurocarparts

Brembo ones

Just a note - you can consider EBC Red Stuff or Yellow Stuff brake pads these work great on my S8 without Squeal or noticeable fade and last very long with my steel disks. Cheers,
