Time to say Farewell

2 Attachment(s)
The time has arrived for me to say goodbye to my 2002 Avus Silver S8 Final Edition. It's being collected tomorrow
I have really enjoyed my time with this car, but the time is right to move on to a thoroughbred classic. I have bought an exceptional 1972 Triumph TR6
I still have my S5 Cabriolet as my daily driver and I will remain in the background on this forum, so still an Audi fan
I would like to thank everyone on this forum who have assisted me to enjoy my time with the S8 and keep it on the road.
The car is not going too far, as I have sold it to a long term admirer of the car and forum member. I am sure they will declare their purchase in due course.
She will continue to be in great hands, someone who will continue to keep her in the style she has become accustom to, and in her original condition.
Good luck to everyone and I hope to see some of you around at various shows, when we are allowed out again. +++
I attach two picture of my new purchase.

tintin 10th February 2021 04:46 PM

Not farewell, but au revoir?

Hi David,

Firstly, what a gorgeous TR6 - now that definitely deserves a nice warm garage to live in! - as well as lots of roof down driving on dry sunny days ;).

You'll have to bring it along to a future meet (remember them? ) - and I think you're right, I'm sure the "new" owner will take very good care of it :D.

All the best, and wishing you lots of wind-in-the-hair fun in your new machine.

Stephen

He'll have to be careful though, he's not used to all them cubes.... ;)

All the best with the new motor David, and so pleased your FE has gone to a good home within the forum +++

Adrian E 10th February 2021 05:27 PM

I think everybody already knows who has bought this one :D the v-power bill and fuel economy in general will be a bit of a shock :D

It’s a lovely car David and you’ve been a great custodian of it, doing all the right jobs +++

Love the look of the TR6 - lovely things when looked after, as this one appears to have been. Uk model, or import?

Don’t be a stranger +++

Adrian

David's8 10th February 2021 05:43 PM

Now that TR6 is gorgeous +++ Always been one of my favourites of all time.
But surely you'd need both? Long distance cruiser and fun tourer?

barzya8 10th February 2021 07:19 PM

Hi Adrian,
It's a UK matching numbers car.

Seems like the information on the new owner is out. I am sure he will take good care of it.+++

tonupkid 10th February 2021 07:31 PM

That is an exceptional TR6 you have there. I love the wheels.
My son in law, as a youngster, fell for his neighbour new TR6, and it became his dream car. Anyway years later he heard of one for sale and it turned out to be the very one he had drooled over, so he fulfilled his childhood dream.
I was able to enjoy some time in it and can testify to the intoxicating noise they make cruising along, top down.
Eventually the sad day arrived. Children! And in an act of regrettable madness the TR6 went onto its third owner. He is still kicking himself, my SIN not the new owner.
You have what must be just about the perfect classic. And they won't be depreciating.

Good stuff, keeping it in the A8parts family.

Not into classic cars but that is stunning.

GarethS8 11th February 2021 09:31 AM

That TR6 is stunning, glad the S8 FE gone to good home

Agree wholeheartedly with both those sentiments.
There's a few clues about the new owner so I "think" I know who it is, but if it's being collected today we will await photos and a "grand reveal" etc.

roberto 11th February 2021 11:40 AM

Tr6

i used to rebuilt these in the 80,s 90,s as a hobby
they were quite rotten back then
i even used to paint them myself (cellulose back then)
i used to buy them for £500
and sell in that condtion for £2500 - £3000
if only i had saved them all

you have a beautifull looking TR6 there and id love another especially like that one

enjoy +++

ps i know every nut & bolt on these if you need any info

well done +++

barzya8 11th February 2021 02:00 PM

Many thanks Roberto
I may well contact you going forward.
Regards,
David

Ok ok I admit it - it was me lol +++
I always fancied a final edition S8 and as a lot of you know this particular one is a lovely example and couldn't have been looked after by a better owner than David. She's now tucked up next to V8 GUD and may well get bestowed the S8 GUD number plate shortly! Just a personal note to thank David for being the perfect gent to deal with and putting up with the vagueries of the weather until my delivery driver could collect it today!

HPsauce 11th February 2021 05:45 PM

Well done, Neil, congratulations +++ though I do have to confess I guessed someone else. :o

steamship 11th February 2021 06:18 PM

S81 11th February 2021 06:26 PM

tonupkid 11th February 2021 09:26 PM

Garage of joy :) Congratulations. I hope you all have a long and happy relationship, with perhaps the putter of a little one in your future

That plate has been burning a hole in the back of your brain for many years!

But how will you cope with the extra 500 normally-aspirated cc's...….

I've experienced Neil's driving and expect he will waft as smoothly as ever, the pro he is, no matter how many cc's or BHP's nestle under his finely calibrated right foot.

Can't say for certain, but it may well be this one here with the S8 plate.

briang9 11th February 2021 10:18 PM

Congratulations Neil, looks like you got a lovely well looked after example, let's hope we can see it soon when all this Covid malarky is over +++

Beverley reminded me the other day that it looked like we had 5 big black identical-looking cars there, but actually they were all different and I don't think any were black!

I've had many engine sizes and BHPs but his memory is also probably fading as he gets older :D

Not in the least - I actually quite like the plate which is on the car its an MK plate which probably means the car was first registered by Audi UK at Milton Keynes, and the letters are FFE . . .Fantastic Final Edition!

Perhaps you've caught Ians condition as well Andrew? :p

Why thank you kind sire . . . .and as TinTin will attest this also presents itself as much improved MPG when I want it to as well! +++

I think Nick's D3 S8 was Metallic black but it was hard to tell due to being mostly covered in sand!

RICKY D 12th February 2021 12:46 PM

Sad to see you leave the D2 fold David, but I’m happy you still have the Audi S5 :D

That is a stunning TR6 you have there. My Dad has a Tahiti Blue Triumph Stag which he’s been slowing doing up over the past 18 months. He gets more looks in that than any other car he drives. You will find the same thing for you in the TR6 I’m sure ;)

Neil, congrats on the purchase. I’ve seen David’s FE in person when we met at the Black Swan Breakfast club and it’s a fine example. You’ve chosen well +++

Aye he's still on the dark side, though he did venture into VAG ownership with a Polo GTi and an RS3. TBF the 3.0 straight 6 in his BMW is a sweet engine+++ Not sure a D2 is on his "list", I suspect he hopes to inherit mine as it will probably outlive me

I do however have him to thank for mine as it was he that suggested I get one when I opted out of the Company Car scheme many years ago+++

I want one! I was looking at one recently 1.4se. Guy bought it as project but after he bought it it went to limp mode and then lockdown happened . He said it goes to limp mode if over 30mph. Not sure how much to trust but he did start the car and sounded pretty smooth. Plus had under 80k on clock that matches with MOT history. Oh it also had expired MOT. Would you say 1.6fsi is better?
