05 4.2 V8 Petrol Battery
Hi There,
I'm contemplating getting a new battery for the Audi. The existing one is OK, though a couple of weeks of low use and short driving and it's worth putting a charger on it and as such I think it's getting low and weak. I've also a Jeep 4.0 Grand Cherokee that if i don't use for a few days the battery is low - I modified it AGES ago to take a bigger battery, which is either old A8 or Jag (Varta 3D0 915 105 G) However the one currently in the A8 (4.2, V8, D3 2005 PF) is odd MF Profi Start red and black thing. 60044 12V 100Ah 810A - has another code RA 531 835 - might be German? Any ideas what i need and where's good these days ??? Ta, Lee |
I think @mikkijayne posted recently on batteries, suggesting the Yuasa ones aren’t proving terribly reliable in a D2. Bosch and Varta (slightly cheaper and identical to Bosch) were I think the recommendations
By the time you’ve picked the correct size you’ll generally find the A8 will need the biggest capacity and CCA that you can get anyway. I think on TPS website you can find the OEM battery spec with a registration number lookup? |
TPS - We are currently experiencing technical difficulties with this tool.
Whoop. Still not sure on quite which battery for the 05 4.2 petrol v8 |
Try these guys: Tayna Batteries
|
depending on codes on your build sticker, the OEM spec is either:
95Ah/450A with J1U or J3E codes 110Ah/520A with J0Z or J3F codes 92Ah/520A with J0Z or J3F codes I imagine the latter two are just market variations, so probably assume it's the 100Ah spec you're after. OEM part number is 000 915 105DL Hopefully a registration lookup from the link MJ has posted will correlate..... |
I bought mine from Tayna. They have an ebay shop and regularly have discounts. I paid £106 for the correct 110ah for my car (some prat fitted a 100ah to it). I would imagine the battery space is identical and should fit either battery. Also a good idea to code it once fitted

Tempted with https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/varta/h3/ Tanya seems to say 019 and recommend the Enduroline brand - Comes out round the £100 for either and there's a 5% discount code direct! |
|
I like the Vartas, or if you prefer you can get the same battery with a Bosch sticker for another £20. They tend to recommend whatever has the best profit margin and / or marketing tbh.
Ah (amp-hours) is a fairly old measure now and has mostly been superceded by CCA (cold cranking amps), although more is better applies to either. Mildly vexing as Ah did tend to correlate with physical size whereas CCA doesn't, so you have to go on the type code instead (019). |

Be slightly wary, the seller isn't in the UK and now we are not in the EU extra charges may apply.....
http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1622222934 That said, they might not also  |
I've not seen that happen with Amazon - I would assume they are registered for UK vat so its all covered, but also its well below the £135 import duty threshold +++
|
Still pending arrival.....at AMAZON.....I'm starting to feel the batteries are fictitious, well at THAT price anyway
:( |
Caved....bought the Tanya battery one. £105 all in with delivery tomorrow!
Varta H3 100Ah and 830A I'll probably keep the Amazon order open and see. It'd be useful for the Jeep and better than the old Audi battery! |
Swapping it over was pretty easy. I hooked up a charger while i did it as with the -ve post it's pretty easy to do!
Guess i need to have a look at coding it next week. I've not got my lap top with my and I couldn't figure it out on ODB11 - Also need to work out the right code, but Hey! |

A battery/cell can look the same but have different Ah capacities because the length of the plate varies. Sticking comparable batteries on a scale is normally the tell-tale - heavier battery = more lead = more puff. You will get this as the best comparison with identically sized Yuasa batteries. The better ranges are heavier - a 5000 series battery will weigh more than 3000 series battery. Both my Infiniti's were extremely power hungry and both had 5000 series Yuasa batteries in them fitted within days of purchase. I have a 5000 series in the D2 as well. +1 for Tanya batteries - highly recommended (or at least until Brexit as their shipping costs to NI are now horrendous) |
Ah.....The joys of Battery Coding.
My old one was 4E0 915 105 A von VA0 1501170013 I found info here http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthread.php?p=152240 https://www.audisport-iberica.com/fo...r%C3%ADas-vag/ and details on the batteries date and so forth https://technoluxpro.com/en/stati/ra...vki-bosch.html The battery was varta H13 - 12v 100aAh 830A which *IS* a slightly different spec. Couldn't find a 100ah battery, so went on the low side with 95ah one, DK - The date was March 21 from the serial 4th digits, 139 , so x Y MM (Also the old code, Jan 05, so that was coded right when last changed!) I used 4EO915105DK VA0 1103270040 Seems to be accepted, will see if it alters anything??? |
