(Help our Heroes) - I know I'm a newbie but.....

I'm doing a sponsored drive through europe with 49 other guys/girls that I don't even know. We are doing it for Help for heroes Charity and I was wondering whether any of you would be so kind to support it/us/me :o

I have copied from a thread I put on driftworks (another forum I have been a member on for years) to save my some typing time +++ but this has more details.

I am unsure yet whether I will be using either my GSXR, the A8 or my skyline, but either way it's a bloody long way for a good cause

Here is the original thread message: with info on how to donate :D

Many thanks - Any support would be greatly appreciated ;)

Becci (I've edited out driftworks and put A8forum where appropriate +++

Hey everyone,

Pretty much most of you know me but to those that don't me real name is Becci

I am taking part in a sponsored drive through Germany, Austria and Italy later on in the year, raising money for HELP FOR HEROES, registered charity no 1120920

We aim to complete 5 miles per soldier, sailor or airman that have unfortunately lost their lives in Afghanistan.

www.helpforheroes.org.uk

The trip will take 6 days from the UK, and there are 50 of us going (I actually don't know a single person going-and have never done anything like this before so I will find it pretty daunting)
I am asking for anyone, but it would be lovely if everyone, could donate to this for me.
Not a penny of the money donated goes towards the organising of this, 100% goes to charity.
We (the drivers taking part) cover our own costs of travel and sleeping arrangments. I might add though that kindly Norfolk Line, have covered the boat trip costs of all the UK drivers taking part-which was extremely generous of them
Our cars/bikes will be advertising any companies who have been generous to donate lump sum's so this should be a pretty big deal.
Anyway thats pretty much all I'm asking, every little helps. So even if you can only spare 50p thats great.
Times are difficult-I appreciate that, but we are all lucky enough to have life and limbs, please spare a thought for those that don't.

There is a link below for you to donate to, please leave a comment and don't forget to mention A8 Parts in the comment box.

Many thanks in advance

P.S I will be using my Skyline if it's completed by then, if not I'll be either in the A8 or on my motorbike

If A8 Parts would like to donate as a company and get their logo on the vehicles taking part please pm me and I will give you contact details of who you can do that through :D

Please don't flame me for posting this so soon after joining, I'm not doing this for any personal gains, I'm just putting the word out :)

It all sounds a very worthwhile cause, and you'll have some fun achieving it too by the sounds of it +++

I'd be surprised if you dont recieve the overwhelming support from each and every member of this forum....

I just tried to donate but the paypal option broke on me  - I'll try again later +++

A8L Chick 24th March 2010 01:41 PM

Oh bless you thanks Ian +++ if you continue to have trouble let me know and I'll speak to the web techy guys on the just giving site ;)

IT 24th March 2010 01:58 PM

Right, thats my £25 in......

Come on guys, every little helps.

Justgiving is a very reputable site - I used them years ago when I did the great north run for Marie Curie cancer..... so dont worry if you've never heard of them they are legit, plus you get the option to gift aid - You dont get your tax back, but at lease it goes to a worthwhile cause and not the tax man :D

Singh 24th March 2010 01:58 PM

Happy to support this cause, I will make a donation in the next coupla days if I still have money left over after my box build! You don't want to take the A8? I know someone that has a Skyline R33 GTR or something and as fast and as scared as I would be to take it on, for a cross country journey the A8s comfort will be a godsend.

Singh has a very valid point here. Doing mega miles really takes is toll depending on what you drive. I did Frankfurt to Harrogate in a day once in an S8 and felt fresh as a daisy. The same journey in an impreza few years earlier nearly killed me....

Then again, the scoobys have a habit of nearly killing you every time you get in em.... its half the appeal I think....

A8L Chick 24th March 2010 02:05 PM

Thank you so much Ian :veryhappy: I really do appreciate all the support. :)

And thank you Singh +++ It;s not until August so don't make yourself skint just yet there is plenty of time

The BBC were happy to get involved:

It may sound strange but I want to make this as difficult as possible for myself, I almost "want" to suffer for the cause (I know this might sound odd) but the servicemen dont have choices like we do with what equipment they are using, and I think they skyline will really school me. I know I'd be able to do it easy peezy in the A8, but I would feel like I've cheated ???

Plus.... I think it'll have over 100k on the clock by August :(

A worthwhile point and understandable motives.... You could drive the 8 with 20's on, and suffer some bump and grind for the cause...? :o

Anyway, i've made you sticky so hopefully people will notice you all the way up to August, and no, I couldnt type that with a straight face....

Hope the skyline is ready by then - Did I read somewhere its in need of some stuff doing first ?

Help for Heroes/Audi A8

Hi Becci,

I produced a record for Help for Heroes and The Royal British Legion at Abbey

Road Studios last November http://www.wewillrememberthem.net/

All of the key people from Help For Heroes were there and Major Phil Packer

gave speech to all of the Stars after I introduced him. Audi UK very kindly

supplied us with 12 A8's with drivers as can be seen in the video.

It is a fantastic cause and the Guys are truly inspiring.

I wish you all the best with your fund raising

Thanks Ian-thats fantastic!!! +++ Wow I really am gobsmacked at how friendly you lot are!!! It's a welcome change from the backstabbing and inhospility of another forum. Thankfully I don't get greif on there due to being an "old timer" but I feel for the new guys trying to learn :(

Munman thanks for your words, I might actually see what Audi say ;) It's gotta be worth a try ey (aim high and all that) :p

A8L Chick,

As a serving member whose youngest son is a Royal Marine I would like to say thank you for your efforts; we really appreciate it. My lad was in Afghanistan for 6 months at Xmas 08 and we both expect to go out there in Nov 11. Thanks for what you are doing.:respekt::mexicanwave:

It is I who should be thanking you and your son sir, not the other way around

What you guys and girls do out there may unfortunately be forgotten by a few, :tuttut: but most certainly not by all +++

So, Thank YOU

:respekt:

Thanks for bringing this to my attention Becci - donation sent.

I have a son in the Army, Signals too as some (most?) of the organisers seem to be.

A very worthwhile cause indeed but I do think our Government should be doing more. I know they have done something recently but we need to keep the pressure on them.

I'd love to 'do' the Nurburgring in my A8L........:p

Stew,

A8L Chick 14th April 2010 11:45 AM

Thank you so much Stewart, that is an exceptionally generous donation. I am trying to get to the target but it's not small haha. Nearly 40% there but the time is ticking by rather quickly now.

If anyone fancies trying to spread the word a little via FaceBook or other forums you may use, please feel free to copy and post my OP.

Thank you all again very much. :)

PsYcHe 14th April 2010 05:15 PM

Knew there was something else to do with the site I had to do..

My donation is in :)

sloss 14th April 2010 07:41 PM

Becci, no worries!

Every time you post make sure the Justgiving URL is in your Signature......

Make it as easy as possible to donate!

Stew,

A8L Chick 15th April 2010 10:40 AM

Thank you for your donation Richard, :D

Stewart I'll try and sort that now-good idea ;)

Oli18 15th April 2010 04:55 PM

Hi Becci,

I may be dutch (so they're not technically fighting for my country directly) but i've lived here over 16 years so pretty much consider myself a permanent resident and am also proud of the efforts the guys are doing abroad.

I also donated and posted it to my facebook...good luck and hope you raise boat loads! +++

Oli
