For Sale: Audi S8 2000 Agate Grey

11 Attachment(s)
**** SOLD ****

The time has come to sell the S8 :(

Some of you will be familiar with it having been to a couple of meets and it’s now back from a visit to FiftyFive Detailing.

This is a 2000 S8 in Agate Grey with 123k miles (will change a little). This has the usual S8 spec of electric seats (driver’s with memory) including electric steering wheel adjustment, a/c (blows cold too), Nokia phone, glass tilt/slide sunroof, cruise control and also has the rear blind package and bi-xenon headlights.

This car has full service history including recent cambelt service and output shaft seal completed by D2 Doctor. Botang's hole has been sealed, the D2 Doctor grommets are sealing the boot and also the D2 Doctor brake upgrade is fitted :)

The gearbox was rebuilt at 85k miles by PSI Tuning in Staffordshire in 2013 at a cost of £2k and it has a full service history with a folder full of paperwork to back up. MOT is due in December 2022.

All tyres are with good tread and has had a recent Hunter alignment. All front bumper grilles are in place and a hard wired dash-cam is fitted.

There is some minor damage to the driver's door below the strip and some other small scratches - however it is a 22 year old car. The GPS is faulty, Vag-com says short to ground to probably a corroded wire, but as the maps are out of date anyway it doesn’t make much difference.

Private plate S8UHT included.

I’m looking for £6,500 but will consider sensible offers.

Call/WhatsApp me on 07787512995 to ask for more or arrange a viewing. I’m in Weston-super-Mare so you can even have a trip to the beach. +++

Thank you. It has been a lovely car to own but I can't leave it sitting on the drive.

It's been about a week without much interest so I think the price might need adjusting. It's hard to know what price as there are so few for sale, plus I expect people aren't looking to buy cars with low mpg with petrol prices as they are!

Price drop to £6,800. mention you saw it here as it's higher elsewhere!

pete-p 30th August 2022 12:26 PM

Still for sale, I've had some interest so far but only low offers from people prior to even viewing it.

Hopefully it will sell soon to someone who will appreciate it, I'd take offers over £6k, not wanting to give it away!

Noticed a couple more S8's have popped up recently so a bit of competition about. GLWS

Thank you. Yes, some competition isn't a bad thing. I don't think the energy and fuel prices are helping much though.

How silly are the offers???
Was thinking about selling mine but if the offers are stupid I'm not so sure its worth it!

I saw one sold at auction last month for £3.5k - about 135k miles and 2002 car. Made me rethink...

Well someone asked me to match the price of one without an MOT... I see it went in recently and failed on a few points too.

It's not so much the offers being low but that they haven't looked at the car first, they'll probably try and lower their offer again when they do see it in the hope I'll take the money once they arrive.

I'm going to throw a theory out there, and I'm happy to be proven wrong.

but.... I'm convinced, there is an uplift in market value for the 'final editions', of which the definition varies wildly between every person you meet.

This, I think we could all agree on.

But, the one thing that stands out on the 'Final Edition' is the 20" wheels, so I do believe that any S8 sat on 18" wheels is immediately dismissed by the masses, leaving it to a very niche audience of purists.

We've seen this many times where perfectly nice, high spec early facelift cars sit around going nowhere, when they're on 18" wheels.

To my frustration, I think this will also be the downfall of PF S8 examples, which although I personally find them a more exciting drive and more collectable, won't hold their value like the almighty 'Final Edition'

So I guess what I'm saying is, in theory, if you slapped some 20" wheels on it, it would likely gain more interest at the higher price, rightly or wrongly.....

I do hope it finds a nice home.

pete-p 2nd September 2022 11:18 AM

I expect you are correct there Ian. I did have someone asking if I had the original multi-spoke wheels thinking I had fitted some from a B7/B7 S4. If I was in a position to put the 20" on it would prove your theory!

I do have someone coming to view on Thursday, they seem fairly local and hopefully will want to buy. Time will tell.

This is exactly right. I've had someone bugging me for ages on Facebook wanting to buy an S8, so of course I showed him this one. He immediately dismissed it because he wants a 'Final Edition' which, when quizzed on that, simply means he wants one on 20s rather than purple seats.

I suggested I could supply a set of 20s to go on this very car, but no. Totally not interested. It makes no sense at all.

I think the Avus 1 on the PF suit it much better than the Avus 2 suits the FL. The Avus 1 seem to look larger on the car for some reason, maybe because they have softer edges, but so few PFs still have their original wheels they are becoming a rarity. Mine does have its originals, luckily, which hopefully will add value at sale time.

pete-p 2nd September 2022 02:23 PM

When you think what a 'Final Edition' really is then it doesn't make sense as you say, unless it's the interior spec that someone is looking for; wheels are easier to change. It's not like there was any performance or visual change between the models to set them apart.

I quite like the 18" wheels and to be honest with the roads as they are it's probably a better ride than the 20". Each to their own I guess.

Good luck with the viewing. Be interested to know how it goes. If you get a decent price I might have to put mine up!

Adrian E 3rd September 2022 10:22 AM

I find with people looking to knock you down before viewing, they're often working on the basis that if they're travelling a long way and then enter into negotiation on the spot, the seller has you 'over a barrel' as they know if you're interested you won't want to go home empty handed, so better to negotiate before travelling IF you think there's room for movement.

I'm excluding really stupid offers from that perspective, obviously. From a buyer's perspective if the condition matches the description, and you're happy with the advert price, there shouldn't really be much to quibble over, give or take a few hundred quid.

Purple seats. NOW We're talking!!!!

Is it wrong, that for the most part I prefer smaller wheels?

Better comfort, economy, cheaper and easier to get tyres for, less show.

I've always loved the 8's for their sleeper qualities anyway. Park them anywhere and most people just see a big audi, put your foot down and they're WAIT what happened there

pete-p 7th September 2022 10:37 AM

Someone will be getting a bargain with this soon. I really need to sell as moving away and don't want to pay €2k a year road tax in Ireland (that'll be for each car too).

Any offer above £5k will likely have this car sold. :-(

I suspect you'd rather see the car sold to someone who would look after it, but since your need to sell it promptly is warranted, have you considered seeing what carwow would offer for the car? They're probably like the other 'we buy any car' companies, but at least you don't have to accept their offer.

BTW What part of the Emerald Isle are you heading for, as you'd enjoy the comfort of the S8 if ever planning on doing the Wild Atlantic Way?

Ideally yes, looks like I may have a buyer coming early next week which is good. We'll be moving to Co. Wexford or Co. Carlow area depending on what's available just have to be able to get to Dublin a couple of times a week.

I would have loved to keep the car, it would have been great for the WAW but in reality it won't get the use to justify the expense. I may be back again in a few years when the children are older.:)

pete-p 15th September 2022 08:32 AM

Now sold. I'm going to miss the car, it's probably been the best and most reliable car I've had :)

I'm sure the new owner will look after it, he may even join the forum.
