Aftermarket Double DIN Head Unit fitted
I wanted a head unit that would provide a good link to my ipod/iphone (more than aux in) and also hands free phone.
The Alpine units are excellent for ipod control and really quick and the new units have Parrot Bluetooth built in. So I fitted a single DIN unit: http://joyfields.com/users/jeremy/a8/hu_v1.jpg But, no one makes a fascia surround for the FL A8 and (with a little bit of a nudge from Ian) I realised the unit didn't really fit in with the style of the car. So I decided to swap it out and put a double din unit in: http://joyfields.com/users/jeremy/a8/hu_v2.jpg And I am very pleased with the result. Had to get a fascia for an A6 and cut it down but it all went in well. Next steps are to "plumb" 3 pairs of RCAs to an Blaupunkt 5 channel amp in the boot and then to upgrade the speakers. I want it all to be hidden though so I will keep you posted! (I also managed to fit some LED side lights and Xenons yesterday, oh, and fix a broken drivers door catch!) |
Now that looks factory! +++ Good result.
|
yes, nice job indeed.
|
That does look very cool indeed! +++

JeremyP, which surround adaptor did you use exactly? I've found these for around £10-15 and there is another kit for £35-40 which includes the cage.
Cheers. |
|
Tony. I used the one with the cage although I only used the surround (not cage or foam padding, unit trim etc). It's a Connects2 CT23AU03A.
Dynamic Sounds A6 Surround |
Just noticed your taste in music.
Eek!;) Zip |
It's OK Zip, we can't all have taste ;)
|
Its spooky how your dash seems to have morphed. Small for the 1st unit, big for the second. I keep looking and just don't get it
Nice job though. Neat and professional |
It's the surround... The Double DIN surround moves the aircon controls lower to fit it all in.

I have to admint, much as I dont want to, it does actually look quite good.... Its probably the best non-Audi install of a headunit I've seen in the D2 yet, which is a combination of sourcing the A6 facia plate and adapting, and picking a 'sensible looking' headunit which doesnt look like a prop out of star trek...
(I really didnt like that first Alpine.... :D) Looks good, +++ |
Very nice install,
The cogs between my ears are whirring hard now, just that mine's a pre-facelift, so double din could be a tad trickier..... |
For those of you that can't quite stretch to an Alpine or Pioneer unit...
http://www.zenec.com/it/products/mon...vers/ze-mc294/ Very OEM looking, and have models specifically for German cars +++ |
Nice and true very OEM looking, doesn't say the price and how much is it with the GPS?
|
499 euros if you click on the 'online shop' link.

Loads of different fitments http://www.google.co.uk/images?um=1&...=&oq=&gs_rfai=
Being discussed on Audiworld http://forums.audiworld.com/showthread.php?t=2067857 Looking around, it seems this is a very good bit of kit, and priced very reasonably. |
Cheers for the Guide in the process of fitting a double din Kenwood to my 52 reg quattro sport
