2024 Meet After Action Report

Once again, a most enjoyable occasion. Angela and I send our most hearty thank yous to Jim and Nick for putting together a great weekend. The Vulcan Bomber flight deck was a real treat.
We thoroughly enjoyed all your company and the conversation, banter and hi-jinx! Brian and my posteriors can be booked for cabaret and Bar mitzvah via the forum!

See you all next year. +++

CtL and Angela

Well said. Thanks also to their significant others who also contributed.

Finally arrived home at 3:00am this morning. Journey back in the car was faultless, despite the nagging little noise from the engine bay, which incidentally some of the ladies picked up, as they too are attuned to these engines.

Probably the longest time from start to finish: 3:30am on Friday to 3:00am Monday. Total distance (excluding ferry crossing) was 714 miles, although I don't know how much extra was added with Google Maps wanting to take me into Birmingham!

I have 404GB of data to sift through, which are a combination of photos, dashcam footage and 360 camera footage. There may be at least one photo that is 'over-exposed', but time will tell.

I can only echo the comments above. A great weekend and some great company as always. +++ Some good weather too and the full moon sighting was an unusual highlight. Perhaps next year we can do some planetary spotting - the 7th planet from the sun (cant remember the name) is an interesting object .........

Great meet & just as much fun as always, so thanks for all the time, thought and effort that was put into organising it (not always as much fun, I know, but greatly appreciated +++).

The moon(s) in June indeed!

To all.
Many thanks indeed for making us so welcome to the club of S8/A8 ownership.

To all on this forum.
A truly super bunch of people who own such a special vehicle made by Audi.
Quite simply a super car attracting super people.

Sure to talk to each other through this forum and see you all next year..

I was hoping to see what way Google Maps decided to take me down there on the Friday, but checked the files yesterday and the dashcam never picked up a GPS signal from Holyhead! It was fine all the way to Dublin. Even the GPS signal on the Saturday is way off, which I was hoping to use.

This is an issue with the heated windscreen, and yet my 10 year old Chinese cheapie that I just replaced had no issues.

Thanks for all your kind words

It was a pleasure to help with this 2024 meet, and lovely to have the opportunity to get to know Jim and Christing better.

The Vulcan was our shield.

Brilliant panoramic photo.

Thanks from us too, very enjoyable weekend :D

Somewhat quicker than last years photo montage. I cheated and used the same template I made last year.

The dashcam footage is around 25 and 50 minutes for the Saturday run, so might do two versions of them. Not looked at the 360 stuff yet (other than to check the photos on the Saturday night), but I got it thoroughly drenched going through Wales on the Sunday. It's been in the hotpress for a week.

Great photos Sean. You certainly have a good eye!

Thanks Sean. Great photo reel & I love the aircraft identifiers - very thoughtful. +++

Good memories, but still a bit rushed though on some of them.

Yeah, used their logo and photos of all the plaques I took as I went around.

tonupkid 17th June 2024 08:48 PM

You take excellent shots Sean, and you've captured much of what we did on that day. Thanks +++

Here's the first two videos using the dashcam footage. It's the first part of the drive on Saturday, with two different versions, the real-time version and a speeded up version.

An excellent weekend, many thanks to all the organisers and to Sean for the imaging.
Also, not a D3 in sight - what does that tell us? (Not even a V10 S8  )

PS I had a standard online follow-up questionnaire from the hotel which I completed honestly, fairly and constructively. The manager sent me a personal response by email!

Agreed on all the above: although there was a green D3 (and a W12 one at that! ;)) that pulled out of the road opposite the hotel as we left on Saturday morning, and was sort-of-part-of our "convoy" for about mile or so, before he turned left - not sure if anyone else spotted that though?...

I also gave the hotel similar constructive feedback via email, as part of getting them to correct the overcharging on my bill

Imagine my surprise as I am on my way to Aldi, I'm about to pull out of a side street and opposite I see a nice A8 pull out, then another, and another and another (possibly an S8 in there somewhere too if I remember). Then I get waved out by another A8 owner and I join a convoy on my way to pick up shopping!

I found you lot within 5 mins of getting home and joined up to just say hello but I've only just been allowed to post.

It's a 54 plate D3 W12 in murano green.

Aha! So that was you that I saw - glad I did imagine it and that it was someone on here ;)

Decided to check my 360 footage of the Saturday to see if I might have captured it, and I didn't hit Record before we left the hotel.

You can't get a better introduction to the forum than that. +++ 10 A8/S8s in convoy, comprising 2 D4 S8s and 8 D2 A8/S8s. Pop along to the Introductions section, and make sure to post a photo of your car.

I saw you too. It's so infrequent to see another 8 in the wild I figured that my astonishment could only be exceeded by yours. And it seems it was.
Great to have you along.
By the weirdest route, you have found your way into the best place for all things Eight-related. Welcome :) I hope someday that we can all get together in a planned manner.

Sean. I've just watched your speeded-up version of the first drive. Terrifying! Who was that maniac you were following?

Thanks Sean +++. Conclusive video evidence that my high level brake light was - and still is  - out (as I was informed by several of the group at the weekend ...)

Anothr brilliant one Sean. Thank you.
