New MOT

Hi folks, my D4 passed the MOT today with no advisories. :D

I'm always a bit relieved at a pass as the car is 15 years old this year.

Pardon my exuberance but it's a great feeling!:)

Think of those of us with D2s, and it's an even bigger relief. Good job.

Mines due in tomorrow. Would have been Monday but the MOT stations gas analyser was faulty! Fingers crossed.

tc4332 29th January 2025 10:44 AM

Mine was collected by my fitter/tester on Monday 6th January, but had to be slave started due to low battery.
Returned at17:00 same day passed MOT andfully charged, mates rate of course (£30).
Nice having friends

I can imagine keeping an older car of such complexity on the road can throw up the odd challenge!

Saff 29th January 2025 07:21 PM

Good luck HP and well done TC

Thanks Saff, unfortunately it failed. :-(
But it was only a split CV boot, all else good, so going back next Wednesday to be fixed and passed!
At least that's a job that pretty much any decent independent can do.

Saff 30th January 2025 05:46 PM

Well for the age of the car that isn't a bad result. Glad you're getting it sorted.

HPsauce 5th February 2025 01:27 PM

Well I seem to have hit a problem, garages suppliers have sent the wrong part(s) so they're now off to talk to Audi.
They seem pretty confident Audi can supply the right bits, anyone think there's a possibility they can't or know that there's an obvious aftermarket alternative?

ainarssems 5th February 2025 02:56 PM

Have not used them recently but the parts I got from them in the he past have lasted well without any issues. https://www.jandrcvjoints.co.uk

Some other CV joint boots from other suppliers sometimes have failed after 2 years.

HPsauce 5th February 2025 03:10 PM

Thanks for that Ainars, I plugged my registration in and they listed a selection of boot kits. Nothing particularly expensive either.
I'll see how the garage get on with Audi, if that hits a problem I'll point them at J&R. +++

steamship 5th February 2025 04:04 PM

Let's hope you have better luck with J&R than I did. I didn't fancy just replacing the CV boot, so I ordered an entire drive shaft off them, using the car reg. It wasn't anything like the proper driveshaft, and then I had a complete hassle with them before they were willing to accept the return.

I then ordered the following one off eBay (febi), and then took the end of the driveshaft off to fit it as I didn't have that tool to expand the boot. Chances are it's the same part number, but yours is a S8.

HPsauce 7th February 2025 09:24 AM

Well they've done the job and it has a new clean MOT. +++
Not collected it or paid yet so I'll be interested to see what the "Audi tax" is on a £20 kit of parts.

HPsauce 7th February 2025 11:34 AM

Almost £70 (including VAT) for the boot kit from Audi. Labour wasn't a whole lot more.....

£21 for the one I bought off eBay, which is more than enough for me. If it lasts half as long as the previous one, I'll be happy.
